I am 69. My generation should not be running the country. We grew up under different conditions. Things are changing all the time. And we are getting older. We need to leave leadership to the people who will be living under it.
Age limits need to be established. There are always exceptions, like Bernie & other effective older leaders. But the U.S. Congress started looking like an end of life care center. There are good and bad people in every generation. I get tired of hearing people put entire generations in stereotypes. This is non-sense. But age affects abilities, especially after the mid seventies.
There are states that are vastly under-represented, like California. This must change too. We must demand punishment for the Fascist/Seditionist trump admin & Congress + SCOTUS. JUSTICE must be served before we can move forward one inch!
Just REQUIRE a cognitive exam, and a VALID hs diploma/Ged to get into congress. Fake University degrees are "not appreciated". [I'm 75 and I haven't published in 50 years, so mine wouldn't hold, either]
They should be required to pass a Civics course to understand how our government actually works, i.e., the purpose and function of each department that affects all of us in our daily lives.
I’ve got you all beat. I’m 78 and what I look forward to are new and fresh ideas. Not the stagnant status quo. And definitely not the regression we’re faced with. Nor do I want legislators who are 10 years older than I. If their thinking is too ‘radical’ for you, sit down and have meaningful discourse with those who are young enough to be your grandchildren. You’ll learn a great deal.
I have had opportunities to have some in-depth discussions with my grandkids ranging from 11 to 17. They are much more thoughtful than we give them credit for, when we actually sit down and listen.

The older people in Congress need a medical exam to make sure they have all their mental capacity to make the correct decisions.

Renee, I am 69 and I’m good health. Every morning I do 15 push-ups and 25 situps. I have a weight machine in the basement and I participate in rocksteady BOXING as an assistant coach. I have a PhD. So theoretically, I should be able to do the job. But I grew up not getting an air-conditioning unit until I was six, having to go to the library to check Books out and having the TV turn off at midnight. It’s a different world.
However, I do think it would be interesting to open up an office of institutional knowledge in Congress for old legislators and aides to provide thought processes and background. But not have voting rights. It’s not our world anymore.

I am younger than you. But the world we grew up in, is not the world of today. My 91 year-old mom can use the speaking function on Apple Pay to send money to people and uses her Alexa. But she also grew up pumping water in the winter for the kitchen with her parents shoveling coal into the furnace. Even when we are adapting to all the changes, that is different from growing up under them. And we will be gone about a generation from now. I think there might be benefits to having unpaid positions for institutional knowledge, but I don’t think they should be voting positions.

The way I put it is that I was in medical school for four years, medical/surgical internship for one year, psychiatry residency for three years, psychosomatic fellowship for two years, and practicing psychiatry in one settling or another (including psychiatry training) for over 48 years. So I think I should be the attorney general or the secretary of defense. I can come up with ideas, look stuff up, or ask around. Isn't that good enough?

I have known 70 somethings that are sharp as cheddar cheese and 20 somethings that couldn't find their own ass with directions. As part of the registration to run for any and every office, testing should take place with EVERY score published. PERIOD
In a year, I will be a 70 something and will probably still be as sharp as cheddar cheese. But I think I should be more in a consultant role. I use a lot of technology, but I don’t think I grok it the way my grandkids do. They are growing up in different times and my past experiences are not necessarily a good roadmap.

Jeffries has repeatedly shown that he will not affect change if he's selected again as the speaker and him colluding with Kushner is a red flag for corporate do-nothing House members. I always wonder how much dirty laundry keeps Congress from cleaning up the mess they've made.
Bingo! I can't tell if Jeffries is a good guy whose hands are tied, if he really is a Traitor, meeting with Kushner seems to make that implication, or if he's just an ineffectual chicken-shit. I was always wary of Pelosi, but she did keep her House-ducks in a row, and she got right up in T-Dump's face more than once.
I usually have a comment or two to make, sometimes much more wordy than they need to be. But I think this post says all that needs to be said today. Except, don't care what the polls say, we must continue working as hard and harder as we have been. And get out and vote. I usually have a comment or two to make, sometimes much more wordy than they need to be. But I think this post says all that needs to be said today. Except, don't care what the polls say, we must continue working as hard and harder as we have been. And get out and vote. And make sure your neighbor votes and everyone in your community...and do what you can to protect the vote (this is a handy link with good info on protecting the vote: https://tinyurl.com/2026electionprotectionvols). At a minimum, got to the polls in pairs and make sure you each have cell phones so any voter intimidation or interference can be videos, and make sure if you can that no one goes to the polls alone and that there is transportation for anyone who needs it. And please don't think anything like "What good is donating $2-$3..that's all I can afford and what's the point". Please remember that your $2-$3 dollars with my $2-$3 dollars can buy a gallon of gas which can help a candidate or volunteer make maybe 20 house visits and really talk to voters, especially disillusioned Republicans and Independents.
