The future should be about dignity, healthcare, housing, good paying jobs, etc. while taxing the bejesus out of billionaires, re-establishing our prominence and good will globally and getting our old alliances to hopefully trust us again. It’s going to be a long slog but we’re here for it. Oh yeah, accountability from everything Trump on a massive scale.

Todd's avatar

If Democrats somehow don’t win the midterms, then we seriously have to discuss secession.

Pat Robinson's avatar

And maybe if we win we can force the red states to secede and stop receiving money from the blue and purple states and then the federal government can use the federal dollars that went to the red states to vastly improve services for everyone in the blue/purple states.

Judy Sherwood's avatar

can we convince you, Mike Hammer, to run for a major US federal office?

Mike Hammer's avatar

Ha! If I ran for anything it would be to have the power to tear down everything Trump, immediately.

Judy Sherwood's avatar

You got my vote! You got the name for it too... bring it on!!!

Pat Robinson's avatar

Well said. Some of that we can do on our own...treat all others with dignity and kindness but the rest of it is institutionalize "stuff' that a nation relies on it's government for. I think most folks who have experienced being lied to in any situation from having your kids lie to you to your spouse lie and cheat on you will agree it takes time, a lot of time to rebuild that trust and it may never be as it was before the lie. So it may take a long long time for our former allies to trust us again. Is there a difference between trusting and relying on? Can we develop trade agreements and protection agreements like NATO even if the other nations don't fully trust us? Can a nation sign a trade agreement with us and say I'll agree to this with you BUT I'm doing a lot of work with other nations to protect myself in case you renege? Sort of like an abused spouse saying yes I'll try again but every month I'll be putting money in MY bank account so it will be there if you abuse me again and leaving will be easy (or at least easier). I do think most nations have faith in Americans in general but since this anomaly happened once, what's to stop it from happening again?

Karen Jacob's avatar

It is the government who is causing all of the distrust and betrayal-betrayal to other nations and betrayal to the voters who voted for trump. During the FIFA events, I got the impression that our guests really liked the Americans who they met ( and the weird food and shopping facilities).

I'm also fairly certain that people voted for trump because he promised lower prices on DAY ONE. He would start no wars(trump may not call this a war, but it sure fits the dictionary definition). He just wants to eliminate Congress' power to declare war and reduce the chance that there may be enough people who would vote against it.

Pat Robinson's avatar

I think/hope you are right. From the little I've read it does seem folks like us...just as we have no animosity towards folks in Russia (and I guess now trump and the entire GOP congress have no animosity towards putin and that regime, contrary to the feelings of the vast majority of Americans). I agree (and hope) that lots of voters did vote for him because they believed the crap about no new wars and lowering prices. What I don't get is why so many believed a person with such a history of lying....well, I do get it...I spent many years working with abused women and for so long they would believe the abuser when he said he'd never do it again, and of course he did. ..not sure what available data shows now but back then it showed it took 7-9 times of leaving for a battered spouse to not return.

I think the Democrats should create a detailed Regime Change 2026 document that details everything they will reverse after the Midterms. Hit every Project 2025 initiative that has been implemented and show the corrective action. There needs to be more attention on Project 2025 -- it's all there, about 60% has been implemented. And there should be a detailed plan to reverse it and hold people accountable for crimes (war crimes, crimes against humanity, violations of their constitutional responsibility -- and FINANCIAL CRIMES!)

Jeri Gia's avatar

Yes, and every effort must be made to increase the Supreme Court to 13. Four more justices who believe in Democracy and the Constitution are necessary to undo the fascist decisions that gave given Trump nearly unstoppable power. Also, create the law that reasserts the separation of powers and requires a DOJ completely severed from the Presidency.

Karen Jacob's avatar

While we're dreaming how about eliminating the electoral college? First term trump did not win the majority. Second term, he won both, but possibly if the close races went the other way, Kamala might have won.

WJB Motown's avatar

Good Luck!!! Progressive action to help the people will have to clear the wall of AIPAC and corporate Dem doners.

A Bluw tidal wave is the final straw for a free USA.

Wendy Shelley's avatar

Should’ve done that a long time ago, like maybe a year ago! I think no one has done anything to present a Project 26 or even thinking of 28! There’s only a couple of presidential candidates that have risen past mid-range; and that campaign starts right after the midterm (if anyone has thought that far ahead!). Anyway, imho! Thx

Allison's avatar

Agree. Many are sleep walking through this or talking as if it's a typical midterm race.

Lee Lenard's avatar

If the right to vote survives until 2028, I think the presidential candidate field will be a repeat of 2008; so many good qualified capable candidates that we the voters will have a tremendous burden selecting.

The problem those candidates have currently is the Senate, house and some state AG’s and Govenors being owned and controlled by AIPAC and oligarchs. The 2028 candidates have to be free of that so they can make their own decisions.

Vikki's avatar

🎯 And voter fraud needs to be called out across the country for the lie it is. There is no reason SCOTUS should ever be ruling on a) a lie or b) something the Constitution clearly defines as a responsibility of the states and congress. Why are they even ruling on this? And Democrats need to get the messages out now. If they don't know how, hire the people who know how to do this!! There are 425+ Democrats that should be doing this right now!! This is a fascist regime, stop it now!

Robin's avatar

And that list of reversals has to have meat to it... attach the Committees, Special Council, etc. who are responsible to get it done.. the exact groups who should be prepping the legal basis now

The Dems have got to be specific, there is so much work to be done to even stabilize the govt... we, The People, need to know concrete plans are being set... now.

Completely agree!

with so much to do you have to set up priorities, and begin with what is most urgent.

I completely agree with your ideas.

This brilliant. Thank you Allison.

Thank you for bringing this up!

Excellent idea, Allison.

Words to describe this administration is totally incompetent and batshit crazy!

Nancy G Leveson's avatar

Another way of looking at it is that they are stealing our tax money to make themselves fabulously rich and using our infrastructure to satisfy their own goals (again, make themselves richer) and not using it to solve the nation's goals. I don't think they are totally incompetent, they are extremely competent at using the nation's resources for their own goals. Whether they are "batshit" crazy depends on whether you define unfettered greed and selfishness as crazy.

Dik de Bruijn's avatar

Thank you! It really bothers me when people say this administration is stupid or incompetent. No, they're not. They're extremely good at getting what they want.

Linda O's avatar

Calculating is the word I’d use to describe tRump.

Jamae's avatar

Yes, but have a host of enablers, GOP congress and the Supreme Court.

Hey Ben, no worries on the Sunday schedule, you do you😊 my fear is Elon Musk. I hope someone is watching him! Trump seems too cool and not very worried about this election. Something is brewing.

Ill Retired Ad Exec.'s avatar

LinnieMac: Elon worries me also, he has hundreds of tech engineers who could be breaking into voting systems across the country & messing with votes!

Judith Auerbach's avatar

I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist;but I have felt that Musk & the tech bros DID mess with the last election, thus foisting the current horror show on us. They say thst it isn't possible, but i think that they did find a way and we'd better find out how or we'll get these monsters again

Lee Lenard's avatar

Extensive information now exist thru analysis, detailed studies, university compilations of state information and high level computer gurus dissecting individual state voter results that overwhelming evidence shows 2024 vote counts were changed and manipulated.

Elon thru starlink was able to penetrate the link from county to state data banks and added counties loaded with Trump votes, like he added BurkeCounty in Florida. He added votes and counties in other swing states to assure Trump the electoral college.

Lee Lenard's avatar

They do not manipulate at the county precinct voting machine level, they figured out in 2024 how to change votes in computer uploading of data from county to state.

DeBurgh's avatar

Elon has an attribute that is missing from most of the Dem leaders: ruthlessness. Tie his no-limits means to unscrupulous, amoral self interest ends. Elon and his pals (including the Russian mafia headed by Vlad) can use manipulation and bribes and payoffs (using the money they stole from us) to grab even more power. The DNC is holding back while they could be crushing the bad guys with truth. Why?

Jean Conley's avatar

Totally agree, DeBurgh. Democrats have to stop playing "nice" and "polite" because it definitely isn't working.

Karen Rivera's avatar

It does feel like when the kids are too quiet

Lee Lenard's avatar

Good perception. The primaries are over so the Elon boys final names to develop vote counts in each state.

Smithstorian's avatar

I think we are all giving Trump too much credit because I truly believe that the circle of people around him are using him for their own personal best interests and they're the ones that we should be totally on the attack against. We should be highlighting and magnifying their every action as much as possible; it's the network around him that is the true evil... he's just a deteriorated old man that is being easily manipulated by all these people catering to his ego. I want to be talking about plans for addressing all of these people and while they may get jobs on Fox News they need to become so diminished they are no longer relevant and their lives need to be made much more difficult because of what they've done I want everyone of them to be Rudy Giuliani-ed tell they're broke and crying on Fox News.

Karen Rivera's avatar

Spot on. t-Rump truly was too lazy to bother learning what he didn't know. Wasn't very intelligent before the dementia became so evident. He thinks and reacts like a toddler. His narcissism makes him incredibly vulnerable to compliments and shiny gifts. He's being played like a fiddle by people who are smart and conniving, and dangerous.

Especially Steven Miller. I recall finding letters he wrote in his college newspaper (Duke University) that spoke about all the awful he is implementing now.

Ben,

As a 23 year Navy Veteran and parent caregiver of a 100% disabled Veteran of the Iraq war: any additional time and reporting that you and your team can spare to unveil what's being done to systematically privatize (read: destroy) VA healthcare might open some more independent voters' eyes. An in-depth synopsis of all that's not being done to support our active duty forces and their families -- not only in Trump's undeclared war on a whim but also elsewhere in the Middle East, Europe, and the U.S., could help increase awareness of the general public and maybe even some MAGAs who love talking about how patriotic they are and know nothing. Whatever you do with these ideas - thank you for the exceptional reporting and tireless work that you and every member of your team are doing to help save this country. If it can be.

Ben, this is one of my favorites of your opinion writing. Describing how we as a nation need to stand together regardless of party, ethnicity, religion, educational or financial status. We need to be standing as one fortunate to be residing in my opinion in the best country of the world.

In a World of Noise, Let Your Values Speak

Politics and policies will always stir debate, but the true strength of any society lies in how we honor human dignity, justice, and the well-being of every individual. Beyond the decisions of leaders and the clutter of daily news, our shared duty is to build a world defined by respect, equal opportunity, and compassion. True progress is never measured by power or wealth, but by how deeply we uplift those around us and uphold our core values.

I wish I had words strong enough to describe the anger and horror I feel knowing that Trump and his fascist regime have cost our nation in lives lost( our servicemen and women but also as a result of DOGE/USAID). Also the waste of taxpayers’ money he has spent on his illegal/illegitimate war, on his atrocious vanity projects, his trashy gilded redecorating in the Oval Office, etc. and all the while “we the people” are suffering. I’m angry that school children are hungry because he did away wish school breakfast and lunch programs, eliminated cancer research, cut Medicaid and Medicare, cut USAID PROGRAMS/funding, and is openly interfering with our voting rights. He instituted the ICE gestapo and their incarceration camps, AKA, concentration camps and the atrocities they commit on the immigrants, the murders that they have committed and have gotten away with. And don’t get me started on his cabinet from HELL, especially RFK Jr. Unfortunately that’s only the surface of this administration’s crimes. What don’t we know about???

Karen Rivera's avatar

Thanks for saying what needs to be said. We The People need to keep speaking up. As shocked and dismayed as I am by the Dems lack of interest in us, if We The People don't Vote Blue in Nov, in numbers too big to rig to take the Majorities back, we will have no chance of saving ourselves and Democracy.

The Good Don's avatar

The problem we have is a serious lack of fighters at the top. If the feckless and mealy-mouthed Jeffries and Schumer remain where they are, our opportunities to fight back after the midterms will be lost. The secret Jeffries meeting with his buddy, Jared Kushner, should be a major scandal among Democrats. Yet, he continues to parade around pretending he is some kind of leader. I fear that with those two in charge, we are going nowhere.

Karen Rivera's avatar

Schumer and Jeffries are both pro-Israel, Schumer describes himself as a protector of Israel. There doesn't seem to be anything in his priorities about Protecting We The People. That private meeting with Kushner, who is Jewish, probably wasn't about anything beneficial to We The People, either. I wrote to my entire Congressional Delegation (all Dems) to protest the IDF targeting and murdering aid workers in Gaza. Only one of them even responded by telling me "not to allow myself to become ant-semitic". Apparently murder and Genocide are ok if Israel does it; I was wrong for speaking up about it. There is an acquiesce to Israel. No scandal, no 5-alarm fire among the Dems; just selling out We The People to everyone else.

Nancy Endersby's avatar

Karen the response you received telling you not to become “ anti -Semitic” infuriates me! Netanyahus actions definitely have zero to do with his Religion.

Karen Rivera's avatar

Not to offer any defense or excuse for Netanyahu, but there is the belief of "eye for an eye" which they've utilized because of Palestinians' actions on Oct 7. That in no way justifies the brutality and Genocide, murder and destruction of Gaza. Netanyahu's sense of entitlement is out of all proportion to any reality. That has driven a wedge between the Global Community and him, and with one another. Our elected officials are so invested in see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil regarding Israel that We The People are not to say anything in protest . I was labeled in a way that does not pertain to me.

Rita Parker's avatar

You hit the nail on the head. IF any of these Democrats listened to what Ben Gvir and IDF commanders were saying, they would acknowledge the genocide happening. American doctors have returned from Gaza and said the IDF was targeting and killing Palestinian children. It infuriates me the one response to you was to say don't be antisemitic. One thing I do know. Younger voters aren't susceptible to the gaslighting. One day, these corporate AIPAC owned Dems will be voted out.

Karen Rivera's avatar

Well, let's start the ball rolling by voting to remove and replace Maghats, and Dems who don't work for We The People, in Nov. I want them all gone *now* but I understand it takes time for election rotations and generational change. We need to at least get Majorities back now so we can work from a place of power and authority.

Hoping for the best and that our countrymen awaken from their stupor so that we can be worthy of our presence on this little planet in the very near future! Joining ALL of our planetary partners and those off planet as well! 🙏❤️

Dik de Bruijn's avatar

Jared Kushner is a joke. If he's not an actual Russian asset, what he's doing serves the same purpose. So why, oh why, is Hakeem Jeffries meeting with him? Serious lapse of judgment, doing back-channel deals, taking bribes, Jeffries is a secret MAGA sympathizer? WTF?

Paul Thompson's avatar

I think HJ may believe he can make some kind of difference.

Jean Conley's avatar

Sure hope he can, but I doubt it knowing how Deranged Demon Kushner is.

DeBurgh's avatar

Thanks Ben! The "Republican Midterm Convention" is a misnomer. The Republican Party is dead. As Lindsey Graham stated so truthfully, "this is Trump's party now." Please let's all refer to the GOP as "The Trump Party" from now on, because that is exactly what it is. The Trump Party exists to serve the financial and ego trip interests of the Trump Family. Period.

Please report on the members of Congress who show up for this convention. Shine a very bright light on their words and scraping and kowtowing to the Orange Commodus. These are the very well paid MAGA scumbag con game promoters. The hardest workers for the Trump Family. They no longer work for the constituents who sent them to DC to represent their interests. They are all about helping the Trump Family steal from their own citizens back home. Hang Dippy Donny around their necks. And fully reveal their dishonor.
