We need a revolution before this goes any further

Michael Nilson's avatar

Sounds romantic and all, but aren’t revolutions pretty bloody? And in today’s warfare, they use drones to drop little bombs, I wouldn’t mind living the rest of my life without seeing something like that.

Sharon Bouchard's avatar

Revolutions don't need to be bloody. Talk to some Slavs. The Singing Revolution, the Orange Revolution, Velvet Revolution. Read the Wiki on those you will find them most informative. These sorts of revolutions are called "color revolutions" and they are exactly what we need. And we're starting on that right now. People are in the streets and resisting in other ways. We can do this too.

MB Kiefer's avatar

We need to be in the streets-- peacefully! --all the time. It realistically can't be everyone every day, but it should be *someone* every day. Trump is escalating; we must, too. The whole world has to be watching so they see what Trump is doing AND what we're doing to fight it. Trump can't be allowed to peddle his narrative, that he's being wronged by ungrateful citizens. They have to see him for the monster he is.

Sharon Bouchard's avatar

I out of town but I think something is happening on overpasses this weekend? And I don't need to wait for that. The hubs and I and our friend are perfectly capable of walking half a block to an overpass with lawn chairs and hanging a banner for a while.

Maryooch's avatar

Heard about this yesterday. "Adopt an Overpass". Commit to hanging banners on an overpass near you weekly. I think it's fantastic. Nearest overpass to me is probably around 50 miles away, though. :/

Sylvia Salazar's avatar

Actions speak loudly. Enjoy your time on that overpass. It means a lot.

Sharon Bouchard's avatar

We've spend time on an overpass during demonstrations before. I-285 is always jammed with traffic, and we got a raft of honking in support.

Jean Conley's avatar

Haven't heard of that but if so, I'm sure Ben, Jordy, Bret and Popok would/will let us know.

Kathy McLain's avatar

But the protests are not being covered in mainstream media; and many people don't realize they are going on and as big as they are. There was literally no coverage of the huge rallies over the weekend other than on Medias Touch. Even social media was quiet. But we hear about Trump, rarely the truth though. Thank goodness for Meidas Touch and it's reach!

Sharon Bouchard's avatar

It was covered in other places, but not corporate media. But even corporate media hasn't been utterly silent about protests in DC yesterday. But don't wait for corporate media to spread the news. We can do it ourselves. Boost good content online and go speak to friends and neighbors. Yesterday I was in line at Aldi with the husband and made a comment about how Trump was going to knock down the East Wing of the WH and put up a sticky tacky ballroom. And 5 people near me went What? Because they had no idea. And they were pissed. You just don't know what difference one sentence can make over time. Let the facts be heard. Oh yeah and now we're going to legalize chidk rape under the guise of letting 14 year olds marry. Think that will go over well with people already pissed about the Epstein files? Keep chipping away - we can and will do this.

Patricia Reed's avatar

Have you found The Parnas Perspective or Closer to the Edge yet. Both are excellent. You can follow for free or become a paid subscriber which I have done for both. The Contrarian is also very good.

Barb O's avatar

AI is apparently filtering out anything labelled "protest." We are now having music fests in their place.

Kathy McLain's avatar

It's frustrating for sure; put the people will find a way to be heard.

Patricia Reed's avatar

Have you not heard about the new task force Felon47 is "thinking about" creating (translated probably means plans are being made already) called Domestic Civil Disturbance Quick Reaction Force with 600 National Guard troops able to deploy to any city within 1 hour? I'd prefer to call it the Domestic Peaceful Demonstration Quick Reaction Surround and Arrest Force. I bet it will be sent to any demonstration, protest or gathering that isn't in support of Felon47. Just getting together will become suspicious activity.

MB Kiefer's avatar

I don't think the courts would stand for that. It would be blatantly unconstitutional.

Patricia Reed's avatar

He does what he wants with little pushback.

Kathy McLain's avatar

The courts have been suspiciously quiet.

Barb O's avatar

We're going to start calling them music fests, not protests. Need to get past the AI garbage social media is using. Seriously.

Kathy McLain's avatar

If I remember the police were pretty active at some music festivals in the 60's as well. But they didn't stop them.

Ed Garland's avatar

Yes. He manifests every time he faces the camera, ffs.

Robert Goldbach's avatar

I recall an instance during the waning days of the Soviet empire when Russian people showed resistance by going out for walks in the evening. Seriously. It was the only thing they were allowed to do without getting beat up or incarcerated. They refused to sit at home and watch regime media, so everyone got out and went for a walk. It was just one form of resistance that signaled to the totalitarian goons, "You cannot rule our minds."

Sharon Bouchard's avatar

I remember seeing that also. Do you by chance watch Konstantin of Inside Russia on YouTube? I've known expat Russians here in the US, but even they rarely speak so openly about living in those times.

Barb O's avatar

I watch him. But the collapse he keeps talking about isn't materializing. Maybe China is helping Putin too much.

Sharon Bouchard's avatar

I don't think I've caught him saying a particular time it would happen. It can take a while for things to hit a tipping point, but then they go fast. An example is the Berlin Wall coming down. We will see another version when the Iranian government finally collapses.

Robert Goldbach's avatar

Yes, I watch Konstantin. It's sad that he has been demonetized.

Sharon Bouchard's avatar

It is, and really I can only think of one reason why that is so. I don't have much to spare, but I do subscribe to him.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

The "Reagan revolution" wasn't bloody either and it's the close-up ancestor of what's happening today. Too many white USians were in favor of its racism, misogyny, and homophobia, and too many of the rest of us weren't directly affected.

Sharon Bouchard's avatar

Oh I remember Reagan all too well. It was when the link with Xian fundamentalist really took off. And here we are. Though I don't consider that a revolution as much as a psyop.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

For a "psyop" it's had astonishing depth and longevity. We're still living with the consequences -- and Trump II is its direct descendant.

Moojoe0's avatar

too bad orange is taken already

Sharon Bouchard's avatar

It really is unfortunate. Maybe we could do purple since it's opposite on the color wheel from orange 🤔

Robert Goldbach's avatar

Good idea! It's also red and blue combined, as if to say, "We're all in this together."

Unhinged's avatar

Are you willing to live in a country like Russia because we are really close

Charlie's avatar

Lots and lots of research has shown that non-violent pooular uprisings are far more successful than violent uprisings. That's why Indivisible focuses on "strategic non-cooperation." Find your local group, or start one. Join in! We only need about 11M Americans- not just for one day- to bring this regime down and build something better.

Ed Garland's avatar

Informative and inspiring!

Kathy McLain's avatar

I'm really concerned about what is going to happen in schools when they open again. Will he militerize our schools, or take over the curriculum ( he has to an extent in colleges) but will he target grade schools?

Sharon Bouchard's avatar

We are not remotely close. Russians have a centuries long habit of enduring authoritarianism. If we were close to Russia we wouldn't be on here and in the streets mouthing off.

Linda Eriksson's avatar

We are like-minded. No revolution needed if our elected representatives will do their jobs. What we can do is show up in numbers, stand up and be counted, and speak truth to power!

Charlie's avatar

Unless we're in the 10%, we don't actually have "representation" in Congress. That's social science speaking. We get what the 10% are interested in. At least until we can unplug both parties from the money machine.

Ed Garland's avatar

Indeed. We're right back to Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

Wendy C Johnson's avatar

I agree except if magats continue to cheat free and fair elections won't exist.

Jean Conley's avatar

Yes, but remember what the Patriots went through 250 years ago so we could be free now.

Monet Lion's avatar

As ON TYRANNY author Timothy Snyder writes: “Be as courageous as you can. If none of us is prepared to die for freedom, then all of us will die under tyranny.”

Sylvia Salazar's avatar

The revolution we are about to have will be demonstrated by protest, outcry and down right refusal to by anything. Denying the rich the money they live for will hurt worse. Also, Republicans are paying attention to the calls and emails. Many Senators and Representatives are briefed daily on the number of opinions they receive. So, keep calling. Keep speaking out. They are listening.

KAREN QUIBELL's avatar

So far Trump has not been stopped from ignoring our Constitution, our laws and our institutions are being hijacked…it is difficult to not fall into despair. I understand those thinking a revolution is necessary. If the dems can win the house back and possibly even make inroads to the senate (maybe some Republicans will find their courage), we can make his last two years hell! We are needed NOW, talk to everyone you can and make them understand what is at stake!

Sharon Bouchard's avatar

We have one starting up right now.

Jean Conley's avatar

....and our military better start defying The Dictator's orders--I'm referring mainly to his orders like taking over D.C. and having the army/national guard/whatever grab our citizens off the streets and putting them in prison.

Cindy unknown's avatar

Release the Epstein files!

Ed Garland's avatar

Yup. 100% on the money!!!

And after midterms. The Dems need pushing. It's going to take a decade to get this mess kicked to the curb and get set up with the rebuilding. Play the long game.

Charlie's avatar

So, if "paying more till it hurts" is Patriotic... why did the Republicans just give the Billionaires a tax break???

Billionaires pay 6% taxes. Me, you, everyone else? How about triple that.

Corrine Weber's avatar

This is so spot on and an excellent point!

Beth Witrogen's avatar

And why did they vote for him to lower the price of eggs?

Ed Garland's avatar

Why? The answer to your question is simple. People believed the con. They thought he was going to do something. "They're eating the cats. They're eating the dogs!"He was going to "Get rid of them." Guess who the "them" is today? It's us. Welcome to the new and improved "Equal Opportunity Financial Slavery" courtesy of the orange maniac. That's why.

Lois Regante's avatar

While he profits by the billions

Ed Garland's avatar

He's deteriorating. Falling apart daily. Resorting to cursing because he doesn't have enough of a vocabulary to express himself--nor has he ever! He's a bumbling idiot who packaged and sold himself as a genius. He's "low I.Q." as he likes to label others. The nerve!

For all his flabby orange bluster, he is not a well man. I am reminded of Steve Jobs. Rich as rich could be--yet he was rendered a pauper when the Grim Reaper showed up. Not one of these oligarchs can buy health or time.

So, although they're flying high at the moment, I must say I delight in watching them deteriorate before my very eyes. Not "Christian," I know, but, oh, so satisfying.

Beth Witrogen's avatar

We are human more deeply than we are of any religion. We are both dark and light.

I don't think taking the high road is always possible, nor necessary. Our intention is not to harm. I think schadenfreude feels very good and bolsters our momentum, inspiration, and unwillingness to jump off a cliff.

Beth Witrogen's avatar

I was being sarcastic of course ... cognitive dissonance rules, so illogic escapes them.

Ed Garland's avatar

Of course. 😅Being dumb as a bump on a log is consistent with these embiciles. Followers every stupid last one of ‘em. Following an orange Judas Goat straight to the slaughter.

His dreams of becoming the conquering hero will never come to fruition. Just look at the people linking arms and taking to the streets to oppose what he and Project 2025 are trying to install.

At this juncture, I’d suggest it sure sucks to be them. What they do not see, nor are they contemplating, is what options they won’t have once TSHTF and the cult leader is deposed. They may flee to Putrid’s land of nightmares, but I doubt he’s any more interested in “saving” them than Dumpster The Dummy is!

The combined MO appears to be “Use ‘em, abuse ‘em, and dump ‘em.” Just look at how he treated Michael Cohen. That alone should have told anybody with even one-half of a working brain cell that he was evil to the core.

Road signs all over the dang place, yet people fell right into his waiting lair. When his imaginary throne topples, I’m not going in among the rubble to search for survivors like we did in Oklahoma City.

That, as we’re all aware, was the handiwork of a white guy—not a black, brown, red, or yellow, or a gay of any “persuasion”—a white guy. The haters need to soak that up, marinate on it, and quit being so gosh dang gullible. Evil does not discriminate. It is an apex predator and, as TV ads like to show us, “… The [item] is available in all shapes, colors—and sizes.”

Beth Witrogen's avatar

They think power and money and false superiority will last forever because they think they are above "common humanity." They are so much lower than.

I think people DO see more than they admit, but they feel powerless and ashamed. No one wants to be a fool, so I do think this is part of the continued unwillingness to admit they were duped, conned, used, and thrown away.

"It can never happen to me" is such a common refrain; we've all said it for one reason for another. And the truth is: everything is impermanent. And another truth is: anything can happen at any time.

I appreciate your erudition, always Ed.

And yes, white guys also stormed the capitol. White guys are not going to go pick strawberries or slave in 100 degree heat putting on roofs.

Whites are not street smart; I say this as a white who has gotten a street education affiliated with the carceral system. And as painful as it's been, I wouldn't trade it for my university degrees. It's what most white people are afraid of: knowing that we all are capable of everything. It's right there in front of them and they still refuse to see it.

You are so correct: Evil is an apex predator. And it resides deep in the bowels of this dictatorshiT.

Always look forward to reading your comments Ed, thank you. Good to be in this shitshow together.

Ed Garland's avatar

Thank you, Beth. Yes, we’re in this foxhole together and the more “togetherness” people discover, take hold of and cling hold to with all their might the stronger the Resistance will be!

Appreciate your comments as well. Much obliged.

NO ONE, literally no one is getting better from these insane tariffs. Not the American people, not the world economy, not the free world (currently engaged in fighting back against a brutal dictator).

This is all a SCAM. The entire GOP has become a scam.

STOP IT!

Mike Luoma's avatar

Do you suppose Trump kept saying “Russia” because the territory he’s proposing be given up to Russia is part of Alaska, not Ukraine?

Unhinged's avatar

Well there is something nefarious going on. Keep calling him out on Epstein. Drives him crazy.

Dems need to stay on him. Where is he really going and why. For a lesson in dictatorship?

He is too far ahead of us and colleges, law firms, the media should be ashamed. We should be standing together to save our democracy and the capitulated in a heartbeat

China has reaped the rewards of our universities

Law firms giving into him

The media bending over. South Park handled him everyone else looks pathetic

Teri Gelini's avatar

Somehow I do not see the residents of Alaska agreeing to be gifted to Russia. I think there could be major war with the orange menace if he tries to pull that one off.

Elizabeth Burgess's avatar

Putin is a rabid perpetrator of violence. He doesn’t fret about killing civilians and destroying infrastructure. (look at Ukraine).

Beth Witrogen's avatar

Will Murkowski go along?

MM Harris's avatar

I did hear that she "has concerns"....

Beth Witrogen's avatar

Right???? Exactly!!

Maryooch's avatar

No, no, no. You're thinking of my upstanding Senator in Maine ... SHE's the concerned one!

MM Harris's avatar

Actually I WAS speaking to Murkowski, who DOES express "concern" but just not as much as Collins. They both talk big till they have to vote.

Maryooch's avatar

I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek there. I can't for the life of me imagine either of these ladies even WANTING to run for office again. They will both get slammed at the voting booth. Assuming we can vote.

MM Harris's avatar

Oh, you could be right! He does occasionally say "normal" things..... he did similar re Canada & Greenland, etc.

Snoozer's avatar

My thoughts exactly! He tends to tell us the truth once in a while, usually when he doesn't mean to. Ceding Alaska back to Russia as part of the "land swap" is probably simmering in his reptile brain. Only trouble is, Putin will play him like a cheap violin, Trump will sign over the deed, and get absolutely nothing in return for the US or Ukraine.

RUKiddingMeQ's avatar

Probably his way of saying ef you to Murkowski

Snoozer's avatar

For her impeachment vote, no doubt.

Unhinged's avatar

Ukraine has the minerals Putin and trump want

Beth Witrogen's avatar

But Alaska has the oil.

Maybe he thinks that he can sell Alaska to Russia, and then get Canada as a state, so the flag will still have 50 stars.

<<<<SARCASM>>>>>

Kathy H's avatar

Sure can see that (@$%wad*^%stain) gifting AK & teaming up to invade Canada. Felon47 has been very clear about his intentions to be a conquering dictator.

NJ's avatar

Some time back, Putin did say he wanted Alaska back, and of djt did say something like 'we can work something out'.

Not sure how Canada would feel about having Russia on it's back door step, or even how the citizens of Alaska would feel about suddenly being Russians.

Jeff 🐰's avatar

djt won't give up Alaska as long as it stays Gardian of Pedophiles and as dumb as Sarah Palin just sayin 🙄

RandomHuman's avatar

Wondering same. Will the military stand up to that or will they cave were it to happen.

MM Harris's avatar

Perhaps the orange subconscious is speaking when he repeatedly states he's going to Russia. So......... let the pilot TAKE HIM THERE! .... ONE-WAY-ONLY ticket. ("Just trying to follow orders, Sir.")

Dianeb's avatar

Haha yes! Excellent idea. He loves and worships Putin so much, I’m sure he’d survive there…until he drove Putin batty. But hey, I hear they have really nice prisons there!

WJB Motown's avatar

Christian nationalists preach it is okay for the husband to beat up his wife........she should just smile and do the GOP mantra of "thoughts and prayers.".....the fascist right propaganda now covers up the high prices as being patriotic.

How much longer can this tidal wave of lies go on before a catastophy of MAGGOT proportions grinds this shitstorm to a hault.

Snoozer's avatar

If only there was a viable brain cell among them....

Dianeb's avatar

Nope, no viable brain cells. We have low intelligence, zero common sense, and definitely no math skills in this regime.

Snoozer's avatar

Plus the Christian Nationalists having a propensity for falling for charlatan saviors. The perfect storm!

The day will come when all the abusers including Trump, the entire administration, Scotus, Ice and other so called police will have to answer for their behavior while they were apprehending human individuals. The physical, mental and psychological abuse they have been causing every day since this administration decided to round up, beat up, torture and at times unalive another human will someday need to Atone for their sins against the God these Christians in name only CINO, profess to know.
