I’ve never been so ashamed of this country than I am now. This administration is the most corrupt in our history. I do have to add that I have never been so proud of the way people are fighting for our freedoms and democracy. The world is watching and I pray this nightmare ends soon.

I agree with everything you say, Lisa. I am so sad for all whose lives have been ripped apart by this administration.

I feel the same way. There are no words adequately describe the corruptness of this criminal clown car administration and its junk drawer cabinet

Same here, and, having come of political age during the Vietnam War, I've rarely been *proud* of my country. Proud of some of its people for sure, but the whole country? No. And the more history I learned, the more ambivalent I became. What's happening now is the worst of the all the worse I've seen in my lifetime. Corrupt, racist, misogynist, incompetent . . . I hope we've hit bottom, but (as the great, late Malvina Reynolds sang decades ago, "You think you've hit bottom? / There's a bottom below."

I have basically left the USA. I am living back and forth between two countries. I wrote these pieces last November and December and they still seem relevant.

This first one is called "A 'Plan B' for Catastrophe."

This one is called "Why I Chose Germany."

I was in the US in August and September packing up to sell our house and move my mother to assisted living. I was very dependent on immigrants and here are some pieces I wrote about my experiences in Chicago as ICE really hit the city.

And so scary! In this country! I can’t believe that several million people voted for that man. They are complicit in causing the suffering and misery being experienced by so many.

what is really shameful, is that people still comment online that they people are only getting what they deserve. they snuck into the country therefore they ARE criminals and deserve to be treated like criminals.

If they've just crossed the border, yes, send them back. But if they've lived here 5,10, 20 years, married, had children, worked and saved, paid taxes and invested in America, they are not criminals, they are Americans. There needs to be a clear, easy-to-implement path for these people to become citizens. And Trump has no right to take away the citizenship of someone who has committed no crime. what a bunch of worthless, soul-less pieces of crap that man and his dicksuckers are.

The citizens of the United States likely had family immigrate to the U.S. I constantly hear about something called an anchor family. If they want to get rid of immigrants, let’s start with t/rump, whose grandfather immigrated to the U.S, when the grandfather was dodging the draft in his native country. If there is a just God, the bastards in the t/rump regime, will roast in hell someday.

Thank you. Incredibly important essay this season. I am so ashamed of what this nation has become and how those in charge have unleashed a crop of masked Nazis with a Napoleon complex on American communities. No wonder so many Republican politicians are fleeing their political careers. Some of them actually want to preserve what little is left of their dignity.

I disagree with your thought that they want to preserve what little is left of their dignity. All of them lost all their dignity long ago. I think they are just tired of the hassle from their constituents who now hate them and they miss that praise they used to get all the time.

To repeat Ben Meisalas’s assessment, trump, Noem, and the other Regime sycophants who are involved in this atrocity are simply EVIL: may there be justice for the misery they are inflicting sooner rather than later. 🙏🏼

Call/email your reps, regardless of party or state. Especially if a "swing seat," emphasize that trump is toxic to the former R party, and there are more unaffiliateds than party members of any kind, and we vote and we spend (when we can). I find venting pointless, FOR ME. Support non-corporate news avidly.
