But let's think positive. Deluded people are still people. With the right insight that one acquires, and luck, sometimes nasty delusion can be surprisingly replaced with some bits of compassion.
They should also think “karma” before sending such a missive….that sort of thing has a way of deflecting back…we have all heard the saying that “karma is a bitch”. What goes around, comes around.
As an atheist, I think “fear of god” is a very negative concept and cause of countless wars, injustices, etc. The bible is one of the most horrific books ever written. I have read and studied it for years and was a believer many years. Koran and other “holy” books are also horrific. The atheists I know are good people who care about justice, equality, and democracy.
Jesus had many other mandates and promises of eternal hellfire, some horrific such as John 3:16-18 , John 8:24, John 14:6|—said he’s the only way to god! Too bad about other religions and unbelievers—eternal hellfire and torture for them.
Wow, that's impressive, regardless whether you believe or not! Me, not religious in the least, I prefer faith & spirituality which I feel deeply... not so much an unseen entity that lives in the clouds.
I differentiate ... there are MOBILE home parks & then there are trailers... in my experience, they are 2 very different things, JS & just my personal opinion!
Real Christians? If you mean people who follow the Jesus of the bible…they would consign their opponents to hell and eternal torture as Jesus did repeatedly. And exclude from heaven anyone who doesn’t believe as they do. Jesus said no one comes to father except through him. Too bad about Jews, Muslims, unbelievers. That’s what real Christians believe if they follow Jesus, who spoke of hell more than anyone in the bible.
I am an atheist as are many I know. I was a Christian for over 50 years and a bible student and bible teacher. I have come to believe the bible is the most horrific book ever written and the god of the bible a monster. Jesus spoke of hell (eternal torture) for those who didn’t believe in him—more than anyone in the bible.
I and all the atheists I know are generous loving people who care deeply about justice, science (including climate change), equality and democracy. We are committed to making the world a better place for all. We just don’t believe in a supreme being in charge of the universe.
I sort of agree with you. I think that maybe, believing in God and parts of the Bible has helped a lot of people find comfort and maybe the numbers of those outweigh the numbers that have been slaughtered and whatever because of religion. There have been millions maybe billions of people who have lived lives of quiet desperation and maybe some misplaced belief system is all they have and they don't go around doing mean things. But then how many believers have lived lives of feeling totally inadequate and inferior and like they are a loser because no one if good enough for god?Personally, I don't understand how people that seem to be otherwise quite intelligent (Jimmy Carter, Barack Obama, Stephen Colbert. Joe Biden) are such strong believers and for me, it just does not make sense that an all loving all powerful god would allow any of the suffering. As a child I would not want a parent who makes you beg for love, who does not show unconditional love (weird that Jesus said love one another and there were no qualifications...one another means everyone not just white people like you but most of the bible says y o have to do certain things to get to heaven, there is no unconditional love/entrance to heaven from god), and on a very personal level, I don't understand how a kind, loving god would let animals evolve that can only survive by eating other animals. If an all knowing all powerful being still wanted to have a world where beings died he/she could have made it so there was no suffering from birth to death and death came peacefully during sleep. I don't like to confront folks about their belief in some all powerful (but in my mind incredibly mean) being as for some folks, that's all they have to get them through the day (opium of the masses) . I do with more (actually all) the Democrats in Congress would constantly remind their maga counterparts of the words of Jesus and ask them how bloody roundups of anyone fits into that, or how denying health care fits in with healing the sick or, well the list is endless (possible starting off with worshipping a man who has violated all the Ten Commandments they claim to hold so dear).
Thanks again for these very interesting comments. I’m not very confrontational in person but now feel I should “come out of the closet” as an atheist because there’s such disdain for us by many. And many people think the only way people can be good or moral is through religion, god and the bible.
I assess a person’s generosity by how much they have left after giving/contributing. I am not favorably impressed by so-called philanthropist billionaires who contribute many millions of dollars to some cause when I realize that 1 billion is 1,000 million. So when they contribute hundreds of millions, that’s like me contributing $5!
I am saddened when I see Michelle Obama wearing expensive designer clothes or when they have bought multi-million-dollar mansions—3 stunning ones, including the $12 million mansion on Martha’s Vineyard. Or when Oprah gives away millions yet lives so extravagantly with her billions—massive real estate portfolio, the one in Montecito worth $100 million!
So, I’m not impressed by their financial contributions. How can they live so extravagantly and ignore the obvious needs around them?
A grandson once said as a teen, “There’s no such thing as a good billionaire. If they were good, they would not me a billionaire.” I feel that way with a multi-millionaire even.
You are 100% correct!!! While the places that receive those big gifts do benefit , like you say it's such a drop in the bucket and you and I both give much more proportionately than these "do gooders" who live in mansions. I don't know about Michelle Obama's dresses, they may be given to her as advertisement for whoever makes them but the extravagant living of all the folks you mention is indeed sinful if, you believe in sin. No decent person thought less of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter for their unglamourous lifestyle. President Biden is retiring to a 6000 square foot home in Delaware which may seem extravagant but the average home being build today is about 2400 square feet and that's the average so lots are a lot bigger, and that's for regular people, not former presidents who hopefully will be doing lots of "entertaining" with folks determined to preserve democracy and address climate change (he has said we will be hearing from him, unlike Bush who sort of slid into the wood work except he has, weirdly supported immigration and immigrants (despite what I think of him as a president, his paintings of immigrants are an interesting way for him to have chosen to spend his retirement).
Very interesting comments. I think many who claim to be believers are actually closet atheists. Many politicians and other prominent people know that atheists are still held in great disdain. Many are cultural Christians, not true believers but atheists or agnostics, I believe.
I think you are right. For sure none of them follow the directive of Jesus to sell all their belongings and give the money to the poor and then follow him. A true believer would do that I think. There probably are lots of folks who don't quite give up all they have because the reality is that would leave no one to do all the hard work it takes to help the poor like build buildings, raise food, provide health care and I think/hope that there are lots of folks who, while not giving up all they have do in fact give a whole whole lot and never let it be known. I watch some shows on PBS and find it interesting when they give credit to sponsors, who I think are giving a whole lot more than my $15 a month contribution and they are folks I've never heard of like the John T and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation..I assume John T and Catherina T were or are real people but they just do good stuff behind the scenes. I do believe that Biden and Carter are/were very sincere in their faith but also in their commitment to the Constitution and keeping the two separate.
Actually if you read the entire Gospels, WWJD would take on a realistic, horrific meaning. Jesus spoke about hell more than anyone in the bible. He condemned to hell and eternal punishment those who disagreed with him.
He never condemned slavery. Had no women among his disciples. Often disrespected his mother. Showed a lot of anger. Said “no one comes to father except by me.” Thus, many bible-believers Jews, Muslims, unbelievers are going to an eternal hell.
Yes, Jesus said some nice things…Sermon on Mount, etc. but that cannot compensate for his awful statements. Most people are ignorant of the bible and Jesus’ teachings.
You shrug off the Sermon of the Mount like it is nothing.........Where is the anger when he talks about his father???
He never condemmed people to hell!!!! You have chosen NOT to accept!!! YOUR choice!!! I could not care less what you chose.......
The bible....written thousands of years ago.........states through personal choices your future lies in biblical instruction and teachings.........TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT!!!
Maga has no concept of.....welcome the stranger........love your neighbour.
Here are a few verses where Jesus condemned people to hell. There are many more. Luke 13:3, 5, Matt.25:41, 46, John 3:18, Matt.8:12, Matt.13:41,42, Mark 9:43, Mark 9:48, Luke 16:19-31, Matt. 25:30, Matt.10:28.
True, MAGA has no concept of welcoming strangers and loving neighbors—good concepts.
Once again......he is pointing out what happenes after the sheep and goats are separated..........after the book of life is opened.
These are warnings.........you make YOUR own choice!!!!
Personally...I would like to hang out with lions..tigers..dogs..cats...all day long that do not fight......again...its YOUR call.....I will make MY own call!!!
It would be really helpful if you would post which Bible you are referring to in your post. There are countless versions, many different interpretations.
I say the same thing Michele...they certainly have not found the real meaning of that word. It would be of interest to know what Christianity really means to them. It sounds like to me that their believe in Christianity is different than ours. They soul is quite tarnished and don't know how to repair the damage they've done to themselves.
Well..I know a tiny bit about christianity..Christians they are not.Even if they claim it.Its been under reported, but look at a clip of inaguration... Trump DID NOT place his hand upon the bible $Melania was holding. This is a huge signal a in itself. Ihave not heard a peep..from ANY Msga or Trump "Christian supporter on this ...you would think it would be a big de..if it were Biden or Kamala, they would still be trashing him about it.But Biden would never pull anything like that.
True love is about compassion, kindness, and forgiveness. It doesn't need a Christian label. In my experience, Christianity is about oppression. Humanity requires empathy. Christian love is judgement. It's never enough with God! It's bullshit that one is blessed and not another. Give my praise to God when I do all the work?! Bullshit. It's all a grifters scam.
Amen!! Well said. Took me over 50 years to finally realize this. Was an evangelical Christian and avid bible student, teacher, etc. Can’t believe how stupid I was. Now am finally out of the closet and proud to say, “I am an atheist!” At age 89.
What kind of being wants to be constantly praised and adored? God and Trump!
Sadly, atheists are hated by many, even more than LGBTQ people. It’s almost political suicide to admit to atheism so few do.
Thanks for your great comments. We need to let people know that most atheists are good, caring, loving people who work to make the world a better place.
God sounds like a malignant narcissist. I've apologized to my kids for making them attend church shit. They said they learned how to feel guilty. I quit 20 years ago. I feel free. True empathy is walking in another's shoes. Suffering happens to all of us. Christianity reinforces the suffering. I totally agree with your comments.
Lisa, you are talking the King's Christianity which was invented in Rome by all the kings 1900 years ago. They selected the popes and what was put in their bible, which only contains a small amount of what Christ said. I completely understand your view since the word Christianity is used by so well by evil people.
I have also been trying to make all aware of this march... it began as a March to protest all the restrictive laws on women... it very quickly grew to the bigger picture for ALL people! There is another scheduled for January 21st though... it is a women's STRIKE! A day of no women participating in or contributing to society in any way, other than their their own children, but even that is the bare minimum... pass it on! You can find info like March's closer to your location etc @women'smarch...FYI!
And I bet the jerk that sent you that proclaims to be a Christian. My heart breaks 💔 for all affected by the fire, I happen to love California and all of the people.
That's mostly John and it was written around 110AD. This is 40 years after the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD and 78 years after Jesus was crucified. I don't believe it is reliable as to what Jesus said under the circumstances.
I think you’re correct, and I agree. I don’t think we have any reliable facts about what Jesus said and did, but many Christians accept the New Testament as their “holy book” and many as “the inspired word of god.”
I have no words for that scum who sent you that text. They have no empathy. If one day they suffer a tragedy, it's people like the Meidas Mighty who will help them. We won't make their lives worse; we will make it better.
If it were me that received this text and I could identify the cell number it came from I would include the number in your post. But you’re probably a better person than I am.
Yes - sometimes people will do this extra # dial thing (I forgot what it was) so the call/message comes in “unknown number.” Call your telephone company - they have EVERY number tracked. They cannot hide. How is physical looting any different than psychological & emotional looting? This is harassment.
Speaking on behalf of someone who has received death threats phone calls & doxxed for being transgender. It steals your sense of self security. “Looting” is not just limited to physical objects. And only using the term looting bc the lapd is obsessed with it.
I’m so sorry that people are emboldened by tRump’s hateful behavior and their ability to hide behind a keyboard. Praying for you, your family, and all of those affected by the fires. Stay safe and keep fighting!
Despicable! Sorry Ben. So sad what's happening. 9-11 brought the country together, but seems any disaster since has just brought out hatred. Empathy has left the maga crowd. Their mantra, not my problem
Me either. Less than a week ago the governor announced that the state was going to have a budget surplus this set of fires broke out only days after that
My thoughts exactly. Why would that person think he had lost his house? I read they have a suspect in custody. Big hugs to Ben, Brett, and Jordy. Take care. Carol from Canada.
I’m glad you and your family are safe. My heart goes out to all who are affected by the fires. The work you are doing at MTN is so important. I just became a paying subscriber yesterday.
The back-and-forth on atheism, Christianity, hate, and meanness, and whether Jesus was a true spokesman for love and peace probably will not get us anywhere. I am sure we are all in agreement that sending anyone the kind of loathsome message Ben shared is a despicable thing to do, born of arrogance and permission from their leader Donald Trump. Let's combat that viewpoint and the power that has drawn people to it. It's source beyond Trump may be less important. An old friend of mine has long pointed out that some people are just "cruddy," and she tries not hang around or listen to "cruddy" people. I'm all for fighting cruddiness wherever I find it even when it is just sloppy and mean spirited echoing of the Hater in Chief. Every belief system that I know about, including Christianity and atheism, has engendered terrible, cruddy behavior. Let's call out evil and bad thinking where we see it and try to dial down the cruddy behavior of others and our own temptation to meanness of spirit. Just a thought.
You will eventually have a house... the Magats will never regain their souls.
excellent
So true
You go ❤️ your comment.
But let's think positive. Deluded people are still people. With the right insight that one acquires, and luck, sometimes nasty delusion can be surprisingly replaced with some bits of compassion.
… this is exactly why you need to persevere.. many are with you.. be heartened by that! I am glad your home is safe.
Amen. You have a real community of people backing you that truly support you. It really irks me to see people stoop to bully others.
Such a Christian sentiment. I’m very glad your home survived. I too am heartbroken for our country. Thank you for your reporting.
That's what gets me. They're supposed to be "Christian" but never think "WWJD" before sending hate-filled messages.
Nope. They only think "WWDD"
You got that right. He is their mirror.
A few of the horrible WWJD statements: (Jesus condemned people to hell/eternal punishment many times.)…
Matthew 8:12
Matthew 13:41–42
Matthew 25:41
Mark 9:43
Luke 16:23
Matthew 25:30
Matthew 10:28
JC didn't write the Bible, men did. THAT speaks volumes. Why do you think DJT sells them...
They should also think “karma” before sending such a missive….that sort of thing has a way of deflecting back…we have all heard the saying that “karma is a bitch”. What goes around, comes around.
Exactly.. what I was thinking. " God don't like ugly"
Yes, my mantra... what goes around comes around... hopefully I can survive that long...4 years of this shit 🙄
Exactly.. what I was thinking. " God don't like ugly"
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge....
but fools (maga) despise wisdom and instruction"
Proverbs 1:7
Q-Anon is the Scientology of the Trailer Park............just like roaches (maggots)....one pops up and another will follow
Progressive Christians, too, remember Jesus's only mandate: Love your neighbor as yourself. Musk thought it was Love yourself!
Jesus had many other mandates and promises of eternal hellfire, some horrific such as John 3:16-18 , John 8:24, John 14:6|—said he’s the only way to god! Too bad about other religions and unbelievers—eternal hellfire and torture for them.
Remember, those words were written long after Jesus was gone, by people who weren't there!
Very true. So we really have no reliable facts about Jesus.
Many Gospels written by women were discarded from consideration to be included in the Bible.
Again, which version of the Bible are you referring to?
I have read many, many versions and studied original Greek, Aramaic, and Hebrew explanatiions.
All I am doing here is exposing the hypocrasy of the Christian nationalist "fake Christians" that have stoked havoc in predominatntly red states.
Separation of chruch and state gives everyone the freedom to do what they want, .....Would Jesus charge thousands of dollars to pray with him???
You can chose to believe whatever you want......I don't care at all!!
What does it look like to fear God?
Reverence: Approaching God with awe and reverence
Submission: Accepting God's authority and rule
Joy: Finding joy in God while also recognizing his power
Confidence: Walking in confidence in your relationship with God
Yep 👍
Agreed 👍
Which version of the Bible did you read for years?
Many, many versions, which I still have in my library. Plus studied original Greek, Aramaic, Hebrew explanations.
Wow, that's impressive, regardless whether you believe or not! Me, not religious in the least, I prefer faith & spirituality which I feel deeply... not so much an unseen entity that lives in the clouds.
That sounds like a good way to live life.
Please don't lump all trailer park residents into one category. That is so hurtful to the many good people who live in them.
I differentiate ... there are MOBILE home parks & then there are trailers... in my experience, they are 2 very different things, JS & just my personal opinion!
Thanks…. I have written that down .. that citation will now be my canned response to foolishness.💗
AMEN!!
Too many of them think Donald IS Jesus.
that totally proves they are not real Christians, God said you shall have no other Gods before me !! and trump is Satan if anything.
Wasn’t there something in the Bible about wearing the mark of the beast on your forehead, kind of like red hats with MAGA on them. Hmm? Coincidence?
they are fake Christians, trump is an atheist, and so are most of them. Pray for their souls !!
I am an atheist as are many I know. I was a Christian for over 50 years and a bible student and bible teacher. There is a narrow gate and a wide gate.
Take it or leave it.
Simple as that
Have you ever watched the TV series "Lucifer". Unusual, to say the least.
You are ramming down the throats of everyone that you are an atheist.......
Give it a break......
Am I attacking you??? No....never. We all know you don't believe in his teachings.......you twist like a pretzel what he says out of context.......

I’m Jewish so a bit ignorant. Wasn’t Mary Magdalene considers almost a disciple?
He had women followers. None among “the 12 deciples.”
They are not Christians. They follow the Moronic Orange Anti-Christ.

Nothing says hate more than Christian love.
True Christian love is foreign to these people.
True love is about compassion, kindness, and forgiveness. It doesn't need a Christian label. In my experience, Christianity is about oppression. Humanity requires empathy. Religious = rules and control over others
Christianity = living as close as possible to Jesus’ teachings and example
Rules vs Relationship
Big difference
There is a song about Christianity that contains the words... " they will know we are Christians by our love."
Well, we sure know a lot about them now, don't we? The cruelty is the point and religious cruelty is the worst. See: history.
Some people are.. bad. For lack of a better world. I mean, word.
You are doing great, Ben.

I’m stuck living in a red state. We still have a number of well educated people that fought hard for Kamala. But I totally agree with you!
IHIPNEWS.......you must already know about Jennifer and Angie......
MTN should take them onboard
People;s March in Solidarity with US Resistance...
Jan 20/2025 Noon US Consulate Toronto Ontario
https://www.labourcouncil.ca/people_s_march_toronto_fighting_for_a_better_world
It is Jan 18!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sending love and prayers to you, your family & home. These people are pathetic. TRULY disgusting.
And I bet the jerk that sent you that proclaims to be a Christian. My heart breaks 💔 for all affected by the fire, I happen to love California and all of the people.
Christ often condemned his opponents to eternal hell, so yes, Christians are likely to write such.
They aren't Christ.
They are all just poor dumb people
I have no words for that scum who sent you that text. They have no empathy. If one day they suffer a tragedy, it's people like the Meidas Mighty who will help them. We won't make their lives worse; we will make it better.
That's true, but should it be anymore? They never stop. The evilness is unforgivable.
I love your quote "psychological and emotional looting!" I probably got that wrong but that's me.🤷♀️
Speaking on behalf of someone who has received death threats phone calls & doxxed for being transgender. It steals your sense of self security. “Looting” is not just limited to physical objects. And only using the term looting bc the lapd is obsessed with it.
That’s just deplorable Ben! That message provides so much rocket fuel!!
This is horrific. It wouldn’t surprise me if Trump was the cause of these fires. His supporters.
Glad to hear that. Post more facts as they are uncovered. Socisl media is being used to influence and undermine sentiment
I have no doubt that these fires were helped along by a purely evil action.
I’m glad you and your family are safe. My heart goes out to all who are affected by the fires. The work you are doing at MTN is so important. I just became a paying subscriber yesterday.
Me too
Horrible people say horrible things. No more room in your head for horrible people. Nose to the ground and let God sort them out.
Exactly And He Will 💯💯
That reminded of this quote:
Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities. -Voltaire
Voltaire? Right on!
Just a very good thought 💙
I have never called a human being this but they are vermin. Terrible human beings with zero compassion. Just like DonOld. DonOld and the maggots.
