Ghislaine Maxwell a convicted sex traffic immigrant luring young girls to be exploited by wealthy older men gets a cozy change of prison venue. All while this regime continues to kidnap non-violent, hardworking immigrants and throw them in the most horrendous concentration camps. Maxwell is a convicted sex trafficking POS. She gets leniency but those convicted of nothing get hard time. Make that make sense! My heart goes out to the surviving victims and their families. Thank you, Ron for this reporting, you rock!

When I read this about the prison, "limited to no perimeter fencing", my jaw dropped. What other convicted sex trafficker would get a sweet place like that to spend her remaining time in prison?

Expand full comment
SFGal's avatar

Mark my words, no matter future extenuating and/or mitigating circumstances, that biyatch don't plan on being there long. I was also appalled seeing that line of "no perimeter fencing." I live down the street from Solano State Prison and adjacent California Medical Facility where mostly non-white po' folk sex offenders serve their time behind walls topped with razor wire, fortified by armed guard towers. Reminds me of Richard Pryor on courts and the law: "You go down there lookin' for justice and that's what you find: just us."

Bob's avatar

Solano, I believe is mostly maximum security. Same for Vacaville, which also has or had a state hospital for the criminally insane.

Thanks to all the law and order barking in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s, Pete Wilson and George Deukmejian grossly expanded the prison system and by extension a very powerful public employee union. I miss California. Illinois has more than its share of public corruption, but even the most powerful get taken down.

Expand full comment
SFGal's avatar

Yes, Solano is maximum security and there are some reprehensible criminals there, but my neighbor across the street works there and says many are victims themselves ending up there, mostly people of color, many quite young. I'm not saying Maxwell should be there, but a Club Fed getaway doesn't seem commensurate with the seriousness of her crimes.

I'm just venting as I think the whole system sucks these days and thought the same years ago when I taught classes part-time at Nebraska's juvenile detention facility as well as the main max state prison. In the time of the three-strikes laws many seemed unfairly punished for what often were property crimes. Yeah, the Pete Wilson days here were almost as bad when Reagan was governor. Thanks for lending an ear and sharing your observations.

Expand full comment
Bob's avatar

The juvenile justice system in this country is a patchwork of mostly terrible systems. The number of stories about abuse at facilities, public and private, across the country does not spur optimism. Three strikes sounded great to some and I’m sure many still think it’s great. But minorities were punished more severely, with what would be misdemeanor somehow elevated to lowest level felony to get the 3rd strike. But we can’t teach history about Black Americans in slavery or Jim Crow. While critical race theory isn’t taught outside of college social science departments, it was turned into an excuse to sanitize history. White people in power are easily threatened by the truth, and CRT is part of that hard truth.

You’re welcome to vent. It can be cathartic.

Trump’s plotting to replace Social Security with “savings accounts,” but can’t explain tariffs, trade, or why he keeps falling asleep during health briefings. He’s beefing with Charlamagne, boosting Lara Trump, and dreaming up a $200M White House ballroom with foreign donor money. And somehow, that’s not the headline?

“I’m not looking for that,” he said when asked about banning foreign funds for renovations. “You have very strong restrictions. And we go by the restrictions.”

Sir….what?

Meanwhile, Jeanine Pirro’s on the bench now. And Republicans are lowkey prepping a military-backed immigration crackdown that makes Japanese internment sound like a beta test. Stephen Miller’s fantasy of deporting 3,000 people a day? Not just immoral—it’s mathematically stupid. Deporting that many people would cost more than it saves, crater the economy, and gut the very labor market conservatives swear they’re trying to protect.

“The economic engine we take for granted,” the post says, “isn’t immigrants taking too much. It’s us not realizing how much they already give.”

The anti-immigrant narrative isn’t just cruel it’s broke-brain policy wrapped in a Fox News chyron. And Ron, once again, you laced the facts so tight the BS can’t breathe.

I thought the same. Maxwell is making a huge "donation" to somebody's offshore bank account. Half of it paid now to get her moved to Club Fed. The rest will be paid after she slips away to another country. The woman has wealthy connections around the world. There is a two-tier justice system. One for the wealthy and well-connected and the other for the poor and disenfranchised. I am so angry that the Maxwell-Epstein victims are once again not being thought of.

Expand full comment
SFGal's avatar

Could be one variation of his-her plan and hard to tell which of them gave $$$ to whom, but Epstein kept her well-funded, plus her family has money from the father's publishing empire though he was a massive (literally and figuratively) criminal who actually died in ignominy. Most likely of all that $$$ he stole was stashed in Swiss accounts to which his heirs (she was his favorite) probably had access.

I saw some doc, maybe on CNN a few years ago about his criminality, how he robbed his employees and broke the UK unions with a lengthy strike ensued because he refused to negotiate with his employees. Obviously he had a plethora of enemies around the globe. Clearly, even if actually pardoned, Ghislaine is not welcomed back to the UK. Yeah, I think Club Fed is step #1, a veritable springboard for whatever escape plan develops. Her situation reminds me of the famous Carlos Ghosan case in 2019. It will be interesting to see what happens. Blabbermouth didn't talk about it today, instead going after Jack Smith. We shall see.

Of course you're right, effort must be made. I'm just saying Congress might as well be dead insofar as we can rely on any support in that realm. I do my bit at every protest in our area and I've been writing letters for literally years (Social Security Fairness Act) and months to all Congressional (House and Senate) committees through our state teacher retirement activism on behalf of defending public education cuts, fighting against Medicaid and Medicare cuts, and SNAP, as well as continuing the fight to preserve Social Security.

Our organization's concerted state and nationally-affiliated effort has resulted in many thousands of letters to do what we can from where we are. I'm not a whiner, just alarmed. From my perspective I've been a keyboard warrior for years regarding the WEP/GPO penalties on Social Security, in which we finally prevailed nation-wide in January with Biden signing the bill before he left office. Since then all our efforts up to the time the BBB was passed had been fighting against budget cuts for social support services and preserving public education.

That's been my best after having an emergency craniotomy last September On May 1st we did meet with our representative John Garamendi who joined our May Day protest, a valiant man who for years has fought for veterans, the environment, education, the elderly, and all else that matters. That very May Day morning he was on TV protesting against BBB budget cuts, flew across the country, and came to our protest bearing cookies, donuts, and treats for our people. Rep. Al Green from Texas was also at our protest May 1st.

We took part in the huge California State Capitol April 5th Hands Off protest. On June 14th No Kings protest we walked again at the Capitol and Rep. Al Green made an appearance there as well even though he's from Texas. We've marched in San Francisco and locally every Saturday, plus our community has been to every Tesla protest in Vallejo since the events were first organized in February. We're protesting again this Saturday August 9th. Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

This is one of many things we need to fix: no president should be able to pardon anyone who hasn't served a substantial part of their sentence AND paid every penny of restitution ordered by the court. And this should not be a recommendation, but an enforceable requirement with serious teeth to enforce it.
