Ironically this weekend, my daughter and I had a conversation with my friend's husband, who frequently does business in China. She asked him what it was like to fly into China, and he described the serious pollution due to coal burning, the enormous size of buildings as well as the quantity of them huddled together, and then the miles of windmills and solar panels. Mr. Burchett, apparently, is uninformed.

Very good point. I have been to China and the air is horrible, most people wear masks and that has been the norm for several years. I can't imagine Americans putting up with that kind of pollution. It's very dangerous and life limiting. I have been wondering if millions of people are marching, what about millions of people refusing to pay taxes to support an end to clean air initiatives and support for fossil fuel.

Mike Johnson = "Performative Christianity" refers to the practice of outwardly displaying Christian behaviors and beliefs without genuine internal conviction or consistent action. It's a superficial demonstration of faith, often for social validation or to project a particular image. This can involve actions like posting religious content online, attending church regularly, or engaging in public displays of prayer, but without a corresponding commitment to Christian values in daily life or a deep understanding of the faith. (definition from Google AI)

Oaktown's avatar

Fuck Google AI. Anybody who uses Google AI consents to having their data and searches hoovered up to train AI. Use duckduckgo.com or an alternate search engine that does not share or collect your data if you value your privacy. Sometimes when I'm really pissed off I just type in "Fuck Trump" or "Elon is a sociopath," to better skew the data.

No way any of these supposedly "Christian" nationalists outwardly display Christian behaviors ... assuming they're using the teachings of Jesus as a model. Talk is cheap; actions matter ... and their actions represent the anti-Christ.

Yes. Google, Altman, Musk, Microsoft, etc. all collect your data, which is the most precious commodity to all the sociopaths racing to control AGI and live off ad revenues. Read Google's privacy and terms of service agreements. There are also credible podcasters/posters on YouTube warning about this.

I don't subscribe to YouTube because it's owned by Google (Alphabet) and in order to subscribe, you have to first open a Google account and agree to those terms. I refuse to sign it, so suffer through the ads. They're probably stealing my info anyway, but they can never claim I consented to it.

More important, throw your business elsewhere; duckduckgo.com doesn't share or save your search data and often refers you to video sites (instead of YouTube) that do respect your privacy.

First, let's talk Texas. I have lived here for over 65 years. Despite our best efforts, I've watched Texas swirl down the toilet bowl of fascism. Over 8 million won't vote. And the majority are a bunch of racist, white Christian nationalists. We live an hour from Kerville and we were receiving weather alerts every 30 minutes about flash flooding in Kerr County. The alerts came by phone, radio and television. We also know it doesn't matter if the forecast predicts 3 to 6 inches. Cloud bursts happen and it rains several inches. This is not the first weather event that affected the camp areas. Bottom line. Nothing will change. We had a polar vortex and while people froze to death, Ted Cruz flew to Cancun. Maga voted him back in. Uvalde happened. Gov Abbott couldn't even attend the funerals of children, probably because they were brown. Nothing has changed. What few gun laws were passed have been peeled back. When all is said and done the largely Maga crowd in Kerr County still won't vote to enhance weather warning. The tragedy will garner alot of press because it's white Christian children so expect alot of prayers and God's will. But at the end of the day, like other mass tragedies this will fade from view. More than anything it is likely the ban on electronics at Camp Mystic enabled this tragedy. Nothing, absolutely nothing, affects Republicans, especially Texas Republicans. And as to Republicans in general, fuck them and their lies. I wish hell on all of them especially the cretin who thinks these floods were fake. Throw her in the Guadalupe.

I voted for Ann. She won the state because her opponent Clayton Williams made a misogynistic comment about rape. He compared the cold, foggy weather that delayed a cattle roundup to rape. Watch (again) the beginning of the movie JAWS. After a shark attack, Chief Brody tries to get the town to shut down the beaches. The mayor & business owners all laugh at him (OH HELL NO) because it's the 4th of July weekend & the town is full of tourists spending money.

The NWS issued flash flood watches starting Thursday afternoon. The WARNINGS came later. TX is notorious for flash floods, a very similar storm occurred in the same area back in 1987. Because of the holiday, many tourists were camping along the river on public & private areas (tents, RVs, cabins). But instead of monitoring the situation, officials & businesses (like campgrounds) just hoped everything would be OK or ignored it.

It's impossible to pinpoint exactly where such heavy rain will fall, across such a broad area. It's a lot like a tornado situation - the conditions are ripe but you don't know exactly what will happen so you monitor it & have a system in place to warn people. City/county officials and business owners have to participate.

They will point to the latest failure as a result of this and NOT funding cuts. They will insist it must be privatized to give the public the safety and security it really needs (I alone can provide this to you). Then, the private entities will be profit driven and refuse to invest in needed technology. The brain drain that has already occurred is irreversible; experts don't want to work for soulless corporate shills. The public will still not get the great forecasting that was provided by the government that, while naturally problematic in some ways, was providing top notch services. People will die. By design. And the problem will just sort of work itself out while the people exploiting this agenda MAKE MONEY. That's it. That's the whole plan.

It doesn't help that P2025 accused NOAA of being 'leading climate change alarmists' or some such nonsense. So if we don't tell them it's climate change, they won't know the eighteenth F5 hurricane of the season isn't a naturally occuring earth cycle. So that problem also just sort of, work itself out. Such stupid remarks from the Republicans. I think their boss took their brains, mixed it with his and now they have brain mush. So sad what happened in Texas. Trump is going to help them our when he wouldn't help out the other states with hurricanes. We'll see if he really does and what kind of help it will be. When is the next big hurricane going to hit Florida? The one that centers only on Mar-a-logo, where it sits for days unrelenting and never giving up until it's all destroyed. Couldn't happen to a better guy. I wish we had a real government. One that cared about people and our Country. Not the one that we have now that is only about lies, pain and torture and destruction. We will have our Country back someday. We will fight until we win and rebuild better than ever. We will get rid of the hate, teach people what it's like to want the best for our Country and it's peoples - all peoples, not just a select few. We will get rid of the corruption in the WH and get a Congress that wants to do the job they were elected to do - not what trump wants them to do. God Bless.
