This is actually worse than it sounds. DOGE, at the behest of DHS, placed thousands of immigrants in the Death File database, information that is routinely used by banks, credit cards and others. Once a bank finds out someone is on the list, their accounts are frozen and credit cards are canceled. Can’t work because the SS number is dead. In the Post story, it was described as instant financial paralysis. DHS wants to do this to thousands more in hopes they’ll self-deport. Oh, and it’s probably illegal. Big surprise there.
