I miss the days of not knowing what the FBI director was doing but assuming it was something to do with actual law enforcement. Imagine if anyone in the Biden administration went on a bender— we’d still be hearing about it from the GOP.

ramonaj's avatar

I would have paid money to see him freak out when he couldn't get access. Just the imagined vision of him running around panicking had me rolling around laughing. 🤣

It is very sad to read about 'insider trading' and people making millions of dollars from betting on bombs and oil. While politicians and their families get richer, the regular people face high prices for food and fuel. As someone from a country destroyed by war, I know that when war becomes a business, the peace never comes

Elizabeth Wolf's avatar

It’s so infuriating and insulting! And trump is manipulating the markets again today!

“US seizes Iranian-flagged ship near Strait of Hormuz and Tehran vows to respond”

“ WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States said it attacked and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship that tried to get around a naval blockade near the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, the first interception since its blockade of Iranian ports began last week.”

“Iran will respond soon, its state broadcaster said later, calling the armed boarding an act of piracy.

“The events threw into question both the fragile ceasefire and President Donald Trump 's earlier announcement that U.S. negotiators would head to Pakistan on Monday for another round of talks with Iran. The ceasefire is set to expire by Wednesday, and Washington and Tehran's standoff over the strait has now sharpened.

Trump” on social media said a U.S. Navy guided missile destroyer in the Gulf of Oman warned the ship, the Touska, to stop and then “stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engineroom." U.S. Marines had custody of the U.S.-sanctioned vessel and were “seeing what’s on board!”

“It was not clear whether anyone was hurt. The U.S. Central Command, which didn't answer questions, said the destroyer had issued “repeated warnings over a six-hour period.”

I'd say it's way more than sad it's disgusting and it's illegal I worked for several large corporations in my career Texas Instruments ,T-Mobile US, & Hitachi Data Systems, to mention a few and several times including with some startups I've had stock options and grants and I can't tell you how many times a year they would have a all hands meeting and talk to you about how you can't use inside information about you know software releases or product releases or upgrades or enhancements or changes to company functions structures anything to make money on Securities they would say the company can get in very large amounts of trouble and you could go to prison and then these pieces of garbage just do it don't even give a damn nobody prosecutes anybody they're all criminals or as Ron has said numerous times it's an organized crime syndicate.

Merry's avatar

Exactly. This lawless, corrupt Trump gang of hoodlums and thieves - aka the organized crime syndicate that’s currently occupying our WH - have somehow quickly “normalized” insider trading (along with an international sex trafficking and money laundering racket) - in plain sight as this Republican Congress yawns, thumbs their noses and picks lint from their navels!

That’s what happens when the DOJ is in cahoots with syndicate. It’s OUTRAGEOUS!! And UNACCEPTABLE!

Elect a corrupt POTUS and ya get a corrupt administration with the deviant convicted felon and sexual predator lunatic thug leading the way.

At the end of this nightmare, I won't be surprised if it comes to light that the entire "assassination" attempt was carefully scripted. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but too many things just dont seem add up with regard to Butler PA incident, especially since this very scenario was suggested to give Orban a boost in the recent Hungarian election.

Eileen Henderson's avatar

I am definitely not a conspiracy theorist either, and I am sure Trump and his buddies count on that fact, but I have long been extremely doubtful regarding the entire way the Butler Pennsylvania “incident “went down! And anyone that doubts that Trump and his buddies would even flinch at killing an innocent civilian to “prove” that it was real has not been paying attention. It is reprehensible and despicable like everything he does.

Yes, I'm the one who shoots down conspiracy theories (do not EVEN start to tell me that Kamala actually won in 2024, ok?) But too many things don't add up in this "assassination" attempt. The whole bloody ear thing makes no sense. Assault weapons don't nick your ear and leave it a little bloody.

The end of the Republican Party and Fox will include a performance of spontaneous combustion that will include Pete Hegseth, Kash Patel and Jeannine Pirro.

Merry's avatar

“After an explosive story that Kash Patel has a serious drinking problem that is affecting his work published by The Atlantic, Patel took to social media and Fox to denounce the story and vowed that his lawyer will file a lawsuit for defamation on Monday. Patel’s lawyer has filed numerous unsuccessful defamation lawsuits for Trump-world figures in the past.”

Both Patel and Hegseth have well-documented histories of being drunk while working. Why haven’t they both been removed from office? It’s so disgusting and infuriating!

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Maybe Marco could add both positions to his expansive portfolio. One or the other could be offered to Vance (no, you are not going to Pakistan!) as a soft landing departing gift.

ramonaj's avatar

It would be a step up from the big shoes he was gifted.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Kash Patel is a POS who is so out of his depth. If the lawsuit goes to trial I can’t wait to see the discovery.

ramonaj's avatar

The regime avoids actually going through with lawsuits precisely for the reason of discovery. They can't NOT LIE.

Merry's avatar

Charlie's avatar

Except for one thing. He says "the Democratic Party (can't just go back to 2023)."

What he *means* is Democratic politicians! Like Schumer and all the corporatists.

Guys: I have news for you. We are the Democratic Party. And we're fed up with your selling us out.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

The word "corporatist" is another meaningless slur tossed around too lightly, here at the #10 most progressive member of the Senate who ranks two slots higher than Bernie Fucking Sanders. Look: I got tired of people telling me in 2016 that "But the Supreme Court" wasn't a strong enough argument to "make" them vote for a "warmongering Neoliberal Wall Street shill" like Hillary. Yeah, how did the work out?

Charlie's avatar
2hEdited

I'm so sorry for your trauma.

I am so tired of you Clintonites relitigating the predictable loss of your machine-crowned--but unpopular--queen, who oh by the way did not stand up to Trump in the debate despite *wanting* to tell him to back off. What? HRC was/is an accomplished woman who never won an election that wasn't handed to her. To get elected you generally need something more than a $12,000 jacket and a sparkling resume.

Then in 2020 the corporate Democrats wheeled Joe Biden out. He did great, until he didn't, and ushered in the world-calamity we have now.

The corporate Democrats serve--I'm being generous here--the richest 10% of Americans. A trend that started with... Bill Clinton, who screwed blue collar workers and infamously said, "Where can they go (except the Democratic Party)" Thanks, Bill--we found out!

Go snarl about Hillary and 2016 if you must. Everyone else knows that's in the dustbin.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Hillary was one of the more progressive members of the Senator. I am so tired of you divisive name callers insulting well-qualified candidates with bogus slurs, especially women candidates who always get hit the hardest. This viewpoint is basically false and the condescending name calling doesn't make it any more plausible. It sounds like you personally have a big problem with women.

Charlie's avatar

Be tired as much as you want. She got her position, as Senator and then nominee, because of her husband. A Seven Sisters undergraduate and an Ivy League law school qualifies a person to hold a number of intellectually oriented positions. But getting elected usually involves a significant degree of people skills. Hillary is unquestionably smart. It's no disparagement of her to say she didn't quite have that rare quality of appeal. 99.999+ % of people don't.

The ruling class loves to crown the successor, and then the problem is getting enough people to vote for The Chosen One. She started out her campaign saying "No, you people can't have the nice things you want." Her crowds were not overwhelming. People wanted to like her, but she never said in 5 words what she could say in 25. The crowds for Bernie were massive. By the end of her campaign Hillary had adopted many of Bernie's positions. Funny. Unfortunately, she was not up to the challenge Trump presented.

Those are the sad facts. If you want to refuse to learn from past missteps and continue relitigating why Hillary was entitled to win, well, that's not actually going to do any good.

The moment she became the nominee, I knew Trump would win.

And before you complain about Kamala Harris's defeat, please let me know if the Vice President of an unpopular President has ever won the Presidency?

ramonaj's avatar

We have to worry about the future. All of that matters about as much as the shit dumpy spouts about the past. No where. We need to seriously get our shit together. We have to win. Not write history right now. Could have Would have Shoud have . Won't do it.✌️

Adam's avatar

Patel like trump will sue, then when The Atlantic says, ok, let’s do the deposition, it will be dropped faster than a hot potato. These assholes need to be barred from suing, since all they file are frivolous lawsuits.

Elizabeth Wolf's avatar

Michael Wolff filed a SLAPP lawsuit against Melania for exactly this kind of threat. The Atlantic should do the same. Is the editor still the guy from Hegseth's Signal chat?

The tell, in my opinion, that the Butler Pa shooting was staged, is not no professional Secret Service officer would allow the target to stand back up in full target mode again. Depressing day. Before reading Ron's bulletin, I read a report the US Navy attacked an Iranian tanker in the Strait and boarded it. Trump then released another batshit crazy statement. He's threatening war crimes and is just insane. He can't stand it Iran pushes back and won't capitulate. Republicans won't stop him and right wing media enables him.

Oaktown's avatar

Timothy Snyder is warning the next move could be an act of domestic terrorism, which Bone Spurs will falsely blame on the Left and/or Democrats. He urges us to spread the word in advance to prevent the public from readily believing it as Magyar did when Orban was getting ready to do the same to him during his campaign. Bone Spurs could also try to blame it on Iran. We appear to be heading for bigger and bigger trouble, with incompetent drunks in charge of our national security and a demented, ignorant, impulsive batshit crazy tyrant at the helm.

MAGA congress, it will be on YOU for allowing this to go on for over a year while you stare at your navels.

Well said. I'm in the last chapters of my life, and I can't believe this is where we are at. It's exhausting, depressing, sad. I worry nuclear weapons will be used. You get it. Nothing, absolutely nothing, Trump, his cabinet or the Republicans say can be trusted.

Yes, Oak, Snyder's "self-terrorism" essay is not only insightful but most chilling. Cheeto And Narcissistic Collapse

While Cheeto has not been clinically been diagnosed as a malignant narcissist he has displayed behavioral patterns consistent with narcissistic traits and has been evaluated by numerous mental health professionals At times these psychopaths like Cheeto can get overly stressed and when that happens they can experience what has clinically been called a narcissistic collapse

Narcissistic collapse(https://bit.ly/3QuLJhG) occurs when a narcissist’s carefully constructed self-image is threatened or shattered, often by criticism, public humiliation, perceived abandonment or a loss of control Collapse occurs when a narcissist’s carefully constructed self-image is threatened or shattered, often by criticism, public humiliation, perceived abandonment or a loss of control

As a result, a narcissistic person may act impulsively, with a dramatic escalation in behavior or an emotional explosion Narcissistic collapse can include rage and personal attacks ― lashing out at perceived enemies and targeting multiple people or groups at once The narcissist may also project by blaming others for their own failures or by accusing others of possessing the very traits they struggle with. Experts say these moments often involve frantic attempts at image management ― including smear campaigns, threats, gaslighting or manipulation
