Netanyahu understands that the next US administration will hold him to account for genocide, hence his frenetic sadistic war to destroy as much as possible in the meantime. The next Israeli government needs to lock him up forever once he’s out of his wartime mode, runs out of things to bomb.

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends (1959-1964) treated us to some cold war antics (Russian agents Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale), political subversion and government corruption, 5-10 years before Sesame Street reprised Bert (the cop) and Ernie (the cab driver), George Bailey's (Jimmy Stewart's) friends in It's a Wonderful Life (1946).

“Mr. Chairman, I am against all foreign aid, especially to places like Hawaii and Alaska,” says Senator Fussmussen from the floor of a cartoon Senate in 1962. Another senator wants to raise taxes on everyone under the age of 67. He, of course, is 68. Yet a third stands up to demand, “We’ve got to get the government out of government!” The Pottsylvanian spies decide their weapon is unnecessary: Congress is already ignorant, corrupt and feckless."

From Rocky and Bullwinkle to the Bugs Bunny Show, those 1960's cartoons were full of sophisticated subtle and not so subtle satire.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Absolutely! So many of the Looney Tunes show were from from PC and Scooby-Doo always had subtexts older kids got that little kids just missed. Same with the non-comic night TV show Batman. So much going on with that

Thank you so very much! How I loved it and now I must find a way to rewatch it. Today? It would be banned as subversive IF they figured out what it was.

I have them all on my Ipad but I'm on my kindle fire right now. The one where Burgess Meredith wears those very thick eyeglasses and the harridan of a wife who won't let him read. He works in a bank and is sitting in the vault reading during lunch hour when there's a nuclear attack and mankind is wiped out and he's the only survivor. He finds a library and stacks up all the books he wants to read on these huge steps, he's so happy to have peace and quiet and time...then drops his glasses that break and he can't see without them as he cries "It's not fair" I think it's "Time Enough to Last" The pathos. The irony. The heartbreak. There are a couple with Burgess. "Obsolete Man" is another. A"1984" ish "Big Brother" type episode.

I think one of my faves is the one with Gig Young where he stops for gas and realizes he's close to the town he grew up in, so decides to walk over there and walks back into the past, one summer day of his childhood. He meets himself as a kid and tries to tell him who he is...himself as a grown up, but scares him off and the kid hurts himself getting away. . Sees his father who must be dead in his timeline and says "Pops, it's me. Martin" Father thinks he's a crazy man until he proves he really is his son from the future, and after they talk the father tells him "Martin, you had your summer. Let this one have his". " Bye, Martin. Bye, Pops". 😭 And when he goes back to get his car in his timeline, he walks with a limp...that he caused from that interaction with himself. One of those time traveling "can't go home again" episodes that are so poignant , and how changing the past can change the future.. I cry just thinking about it. "If I only knew then what I know now"....I think about that all the time with Demented Donnie. If we could only go back and change things knowing what we do...but we can't.

Dee Cee's avatar

I clearly remember the one where Burgess Meredith breaks his glasses. As someone who loves books, I could relate!

"The Hitchhiker" and "Twenty Two" both scared the crap out of me. And memories of "A Stop In Willoughby" makes me wistful to this day. Another one of those "can't go home again" episodes that are so heartbreakingly poignant these days.

Look up "Hiraeth." (not a TZ episode -- a Welsh concept). Be sure to have some tissue handy.

Robin D's avatar

I loved "The Hitch-hiker" with Inger Stevens. I am realizing I must have seen many Twilight Zones while they were already in reruns since since that episode is from 1960. I would have been 4. I still remember her character's name...Nan, but I can't remember waking up this morning! She was in another one...she's a beloved daughter with older parents (vaguely remember the entire story) who finds out she's a robot. Her father was a scientist and built her...they couldn't have children.

OMG. Twenty-Two The blonde actress in the hospital who keeps having the dream with the nurse who says "Room for one more, honey". (The morgue room 22) That's the season they tried to save money and filmed the episodes on video tape which I hated the look of...very soap opera-ish, but I agree. That one terrified me. When she is late for the flight she booked to get away and it exploded on the runway. The whole thing saved her life.

Willoughby (the wives are always nightmares in these tales. I can remember the boss and his wife's name was Janey) Another one that kills me is " I Sing The Body Electric" with the robot grandma for the 3 kids that lost their mother. And the one whose title I can't remember, but its about an elderly couple, where they can buy young bodies, but they can only afford one, so the wife tells the husband "you do it" and he comes out like a young body builder, but he can't bear to live without his wife, so he gives up the new body to go back to his old one, so they can grow old and die together. 😭😭😭 I'm going to have to do a TZ binge. Thanks for the memories Dee ❤

PS. Hiraeth. 😭😭😭 Yes, that "homesickness or longing". I sometimes, even at almost 70, have dreams of my childhood home. My parents aren't ever there, in fact, I rarely if ever dream of my parents who I still miss desperately after 54 and 38 years after their deaths, but I can walk through the rooms. Go in my closet and see things in my bedroom desk. It's when I long for the safety and security of my childhood.

Dee Cee's avatar

I can so relate to everything you're saying. Include visiting places where I once lived in my dreams.

Remember "To Serve Man"? That one kinda reminds me of DJT and his affection for Hannibal Lecter. DJT speaks of him as if he is a real, living person.

I watched them in reruns too. After dinner. TZ was on just after "The Rifleman" with Chuck Connors and Johnny Crawford.

Rita Parker's avatar

Well said. Netanyahu has lost his mind and gone into full blown genocidal blood lust. Schumer and any Democrat helping Israel needs to be voted out. People have had enough.

Linda Harris's avatar

Schumer and Jeffries both take AIPAC money. Schumer stated before an AIPAC meeting that he will do all in his power for Israel. I guess, I was taught an incorrect version of history. I thought that Senators took an oath to the Constitution and to their constituents.

Rita Parker's avatar

There is a revolution in this country - sometimes quiet, sometimes not, but most decidedly people have turned against Israel. Younger people, in particular, see Netanyahu's genocide against the Palestinians and they're not buying his attack on Lebanon. Also, being called anti Semitic isn't the own they think it is. Watching Netanyahu's government celebrate and drink champagne after passing a law to execute Palestinians was sobering. How ironic that a people who endured a Holocaust would turn around and do it to other people is astounding. As for Schumer, I've seen him in videos pledging loyalty to Israel. He and Jeffries need to go.

Linda Harris's avatar

Very good post Rita and I see it also with the young podcasters on You Tube. They grew up with the internet and are aware of both past and future events and can access them in a matter of seconds. It isn't that easy to lie to many of them.

Suel J's avatar

Truth here! I can't wrap my mind around him just constantly killing, bombing, and Trump/Hegseth same. What's it going to take? The people that could stop this won't for some reason I can't understand.

Rita Parker's avatar

I'm old. My father fought in WW2. I've read the books. Seen all the documentaries. And I wondered how an entire people could follow Hitler or just kill children without remorse. We're seeing the same thing now and I still don't get it.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

The US doing that to civilians in Iran. Do you also assign collective blame to us?

Rita Parker's avatar

I assign collective blame to anyone who voted for Trump. I assign collective blame to Republicans who support and enable it. With respect, Kelvin, quit nitpicking what I say.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Thank you, Rita. I will post as I wish and I will critique what I find worthy of further discussion. You have an option to block me if you can't stand good for your views. If you don't then expect more because you attack without receipts or consistency. In your first post, you stated, "Schumer and any Democrat helping Israel needs to be voted out. " In the same thread, you assert: "I assign collective blame to Republicans who support and enable it." By attacking first Dems and the the GOP, you make it impossible to believe your condemnation is of some; really, it is of all.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Well in excess of half of Congress receives AIPAC funding including Republican Senators Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, John Cornyn, Tom Cotton, Joni Ernst, Lindsey Graham, and a dozen others. GOP House recipients include Dan Bacon, Tom Cole, James Comer, Mike Johnson, Jim Jordan, Steve Scalise and dozens more. I do not understand what makes Schumer and Jefferies worthy of being called out because of an across-the-aisle funding source. As for their politics, yes, they are horrible. But an attack based on funding calls for a much broader attack than two people. https://www.aipacpac.org/

Rita Parker's avatar

They are the Democratic minority leaders. I don't count on Republicans for anything, but I do expect Democrats to read the room. The days of fealty to Israel are over.

Kelvin Hobbs's avatar

Look at the list of AIPAC recipients: https://www.aipacpac.org/. It is bilateral. What makes Dems more loyal to Israeli money than their GOP colleagues? Explain the fealty of which you speak. If you are old enough to remember (as you claim; I am), think back to 1973. Recall that Kissinger interceded to protect encircled Egyptian troops, forcing Israel to withdraw. You mix up the dog and the wagged tail. What is it that you don't like, Israelis or the Israeli government (or Jews generally)? How many nations today consider the US to be a loyal friend?

Cheeto's Sadism

A clinical feature of malignant narcissists is hatred of people and a corollary to that trait is sadism

Miles Taylor who spent 4y in the first Cheeto regime recounts in an article about his observations about Cheeto that he loved to induce unspeakable violence against people(https://bit.ly/4sPUVLT)

This disturbing fact points to our understanding how Cheeto likes to inflict pain on people by withdrawing benefits for those who need a helping hand or why he delights with his buddy Netanyahu on bombing Iranian civilian facilities or why he has no empathy for American civilians killed by ICE or why he gets off bombing boats in the Caribbean on the pretense that they are narcoterrorists

He has also suggested that shoplifters be shot, and wanted serious consideration to moats filled with alligators and snakes on either side of his border wall, along with wanted the wall electrified with spikes on top that could pierce human flesh:

https://www.ms.now/rachel-maddow-show/trump-envisioned-border-moat-stocked-snakes-or-alligators-msna1286016

Privately, the president had often talked about fortifying a border wall with a water-filled trench, stocked with snakes or alligators, prompting aides to seek a cost estimate. He wanted the wall electrified, with spikes on top that could pierce human flesh.

After publicly suggesting that soldiers shoot migrants if they threw rocks, the president backed off when his staff told him that was illegal. But later in a meeting, aides recalled, he suggested that they shoot migrants in the legs to slow them down. That’s not allowed either, they told him.

//end//

How do we survive even if we get rid of D "JC" T...only to be left with the Mike Lees and Tommy Tubervilles in power. I don't believe this is our country.

Terrible. For those wondering, the Senate narrowly voted 50–49 to lift a mining moratorium near Minnesota’s Boundary Waters, clearing the way for a proposed copper and nickel mine and sending the measure to Trump, who is expected to sign it. Please ask the candidates about their positions on the failed money pit bulletin train. Californians need to stop throwing good money after bad, and kill that boondoggle.

Linda Harris's avatar

Some of those democratic candidates need to smell the coffee and step down. Does power mean so much to them that they are willing to sell out California (the world's 4th largest economy) to the repugnicans, and thus sell out the US to them.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Yes, but WHO are the ones "willing to sell out California"? It's hard to convince any particular one that they are the one that needs to drop out. I have my own opinion on this, but I will Democrats would stop falling in love and get hard-nosed. At this point, as much as I'm not a fan, I'd vote for and promote Katie Porter if it appeared she had a solid, steady lead (she doesn't.) I heard a lot of people who seem to know nothing screaming "Steyer is a billionaire." I know a lot about Steyer; I've followed his work for nearly 15 years, heard him speak and talked to him personally. He's a billionaire in the Pritzker mold, not the Musk or Thiel mode. And he's an avid environmentalist whose organization is dedicated to activating young voters. There's no reason to dismiss him, should he be showing a steady lead.

Linda (Evanston IL)'s avatar

According to an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal, there is still time for Kamala Harris to enter the race. We do not feel she has a chance of winning a presidential race again. Misogyny, racism, not speaking out about the genocide in Gaza. The country is in an emergency economically and in terms of our defense and national security as well as all the DOGE cuts. It is going to be a huge challenge to repair all of this damage.

uRNangel423's avatar

Linda, I believe that Kamala had won the 2024 election and that this regime along with Muskrat had skewed the results. On that note, not sure the general public are willing to try having her run again for any position-state or federal, since the republican machine has damaged her reputation tremendously. Just to be clear, I had voted for her and believed that she would have led America on the forward path to correct a lot of wrongs that the republicans have inflicted on Americans, but she would have been a “lame duck” president with the house & senate held by republicans.

K Eck's avatar
16mEdited

They "skewed the results" by lying lying lying about EVERYTHING, and the press not pushing back hard enough countering with facts, and a whole lot of gullible people believing those lies, or wishing they were true. Lies about Harris, lies about project 25, lies about war, lies about migrants, lies about trans people, lies about the economy (omg eggs!) lies about cutting the debt, lies about medicare and mecicaid, lies about Biden, etc etc etc etc

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

She did not, I'm sorry We need to stop being MAGA-style conspiracy theorists and strengthening Trump's claim that he won in 2020 and it was rigged. No American election was "rigged" in terms of the voting.

Linda (Evanston IL)'s avatar

We voted for her also. There was certainly election interference. Her campaign was so expensive with all those entertainment rallies. Low income voters and farmers found no appeal in her.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

No, there was no "election interference, if you mean interfering with the actual voting. That did not happen. Any "interference" was on the front end with the media's incessant tearing her down while ignoring Trump's increasingly obvious shortcoming.

Linda (Evanston IL)'s avatar

Bomb threats, Musk buying votes. Polling locations moved at the last minute, confusing last minute voters.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Those are not examples of interfering with voting or changing the vote. They're voter suppression, something else entirely. They don't prove "Kamala won."

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

No — they are trying to screw it up and elect a Republican. Then after the election, they'd hammer a steady drumbeat of "she got in too late." The time for her to get in this race was last year.

Linda (Evanston IL)'s avatar

Absolutely agree. He founded his organization NextGen, originally NextGen Climate, now NextGenAmerica, to activate young voters through. When I worked for an environmental publication back in 2014-15 he came to Cleveland to take part in a panel on how climate change impacts working and low income people, sponsored by some local group—SEIU or Jobs for Justice, I don't remember. I had a chance to speak to him afterward and he was very friendly and down to earth. Given Trump's assaults on California's climate measures, he would be a strong ally — and the Republicans would both be disastrous not just for California, but for the entire country.
