Top Trump Officials Abruptly Quit in Protest

Top federal prosecutors are walking away rather than participate in Trump’s lawless retribution machine.

I’ve covered a lot of Trump corruption, but what we’re witnessing right now is on another level.

We are seeing career prosecutors resign in protest because they refuse to carry out Trump’s lawless orders. These are top officials at the Department of Justice and the Southern District of New York (SDNY)—people who have spent years upholding the law, regardless of politics. And now, they are walking away rather than become part of Trump’s personal retribution squad.

Here’s what’s happening: Trump’s DOJ, now led by his corrupt Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy AG Emil Bove, ordered SDNY to drop the corruption charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams—despite overwhelming evidence of bribes, criminal behavior, and clear violations of the law. Why? Because Trump wanted Adams to start handing over money to his administration and pushing MAGA talking points.

This is straight-up mafia-style corruption. And the prosecutors weren’t having it.

Danielle Sassoon, the acting U.S. Attorney for SDNY, resigned in protest. Then others in her office followed. And when Trump’s people tried to shift the case to the Public Integrity Section in D.C., the acting head of that unit, John Keller, and his boss, Kevin Driscoll, also resigned.

This is a mass exodus of legal professionals saying, Enough is enough.

And here’s the kicker—Trump’s goons literally admitted to the corrupt quid pro quo on Fox News. Former ICE Director Tom Homan basically threatened Adams on air, saying if Adams didn’t do what Trump wanted, they’d “revisit” his case.

This is open, brazen criminality. They aren’t even trying to hide it anymore.

Now, Trump was asked about all of these resignations during an event with India’s Prime Minister Modi, and his response was classic Trump. First, he pretended he didn’t know anything about it. Then, realizing that the Supreme Court has essentially given him absolute immunity, he changed course and claimed he actually fired Danielle Sassoon.

It’s the same old Trump playbook—deny, then pivot to childish bravado.

But let’s talk about who’s actually running the DOJ now. Pam Bondi. Yes, the same Pam Bondi who was one of Trump’s impeachment lawyers. The same Pam Bondi who took illegal campaign donations from Trump’s charity and then conveniently dropped an investigation into Trump University. The same Pam Bondi who is now faking “charges” against New York’s Democratic leaders, including Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James.

Let’s be clear—these so-called “charges” Bondi announced? They don’t actually exist. It’s not a real indictment. It’s just a frivolous civil lawsuit that wasn’t even properly filed when she made her big announcement. This isn’t a functioning justice system. This is a banana republic.

And I’ve got to give credit to the prosecutors who resigned. They could have kept their jobs, taken their paychecks, and just gone along with it. But they stood on principle.

Just look at what Assistant U.S. Attorney Hagan Scotten wrote in his resignation letter:

“If no lawyer within earshot of President Trump is willing to give him that advice—that what he's asking is unlawful and illegal—then I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool or enough of a coward to file your motion. But it was never going to be me.”

That is integrity. That is courage.

And here’s the bottom line: This is how authoritarianism takes hold. This is exactly what happens when you let a criminal run the government—he replaces competent professionals with bootlickers who will do whatever he wants, no matter how illegal.

But here’s what gives me hope: these resignations show that not everyone is willing to bend the knee. These prosecutors took an oath, and they are refusing to break it for Trump. That matters.

Now, it’s up to us. We can’t let this slide. We have to talk about it. We have to expose it. And most importantly, we have to make sure we are doing everything we can to stop Trump’s illegal acts—and highlight the heroes taking a stand.
