Ruthy, I was thinking the same thing except my version had a few (actually ALOT) more curse words and one long-ass sigh.

What Ben and the Meidas crew just laid out here? It’s the kind of story that, five years ago, would’ve broken the internet and triggered congressional hearings. Now we read it with coffee. A former president’s DOJ just spent two freakin days meeting with a convicted child sex trafficker and walked out giving her immunity like she’s a whistleblower? The same Ghislaine he “wished well” during a pandemic presser. The same Epstein associate the WSJ says is tied to 300GB of sealed DOJ files with Trump’s name all over them.

And the media? Still trying to decide if the real story is…windmills or the Washington Commanders.

Appreciate Meidas staying on it like freakin pit bulls man. Some of us are also out here tracing the same madness from a slightly different angle and connecting the dots they still won’t touch on cable. (They say not to self-promote in someone else’s house, so *cough* I’ll just say… I’m around here somewhere if you’re curious. 👀)

Either way, this matters. Ruthy’s right. Y’all are shifting history while the networks chase noise.

I am gratified to see the rest of the world distancing themselves from America. Sad it has come to this, but gratified that there still are millions of folks who believe in democracy (the EU plus UK have more citizens than the US) and things like science, addressing climate change and caring for not just one another but others all over the world who need help. I just read this in the independent newspaper Texas Tribune Weekly Brief;

Quote - President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill drastically shortened the timeline for wind and solar projects to qualify for tax credits. Because of that, along with other economic uncertainty, economists expect the development of solar and wind farms nationwide will slow in the coming decade. That means power bills in Texas, where those industries have boomed and power demand is rising, are likely to get more expensive. Unquote

It also means that other countries will take the lead in clean energy. China in particular is heavily invested. The data centers Trump so desperately wants developed here require substantial amounts of energy to operate. Our present infrastructure cannot support it. Green energy is providing a double digit percentage of our power now and would have continued to increase but now is stifled. Trump's war on green energy, love of dirty fossil fuels, and deregulation in regard to safeguarding clean water and air is taking us back to the dark ages, literally, in so many ways.

I expect it of CBS now but still have hopes that maybe ABC or NBC will have the courage and integrity and dose of morals to hold them accountable and advise the American people. It is not just trump, maxwell and bondi who continue to victimize Epstein's victims but the entire GOP Congress, including Susan Collins who I imagine finds it concerning, but still ok.

ABC is owned by Disney. My local news is one big commercial. They have already paid him off for some imaginary slight. I’ve always trusted PBS, but lately they’ve had more “cheerful” Rs on lately and allowed them to bloviate for way longer than usual. My local NPR is just raising more money-which Philly can afford, but other places can’t. I’ve been watching NBC and MSNBC. Local news is less sensational and commercial. Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell are great, within the constraints of TV. 👹

I haven't watched local news, or actually any news for year. This has not been any kind of rational decision, I'm just never in the house when the news is on. It could be about respect and enough smart people to figure out the financial stuff. This might not be the end. It could be the beginning of something better. We all knew this would happen. I’m still waiting for the removal of Trump and his ridiculous administration!!!! Remember folks. Our country is run by Oligarchs. Also, never underestimate Trump. I’m sure he is working on voter suppression. Most Democrats, if not all, are receiving incredible amounts of money from lobbyists like AIPAC (Israel’s lobbyist). Some of these lobbyists work out of our Congress people’s offices!!! This is why nothing gets done for people. How many times has anyone mentioned stricter gun laws, raising the minimum wage, Healthcare for all. To me, Bernie Sanders was our last chance for a decent presidency. However, because he wanted money removed from politics his chances were sabotaged, and by his own party!!! I have no faith in the Democratic Party anymore. Did you know that Hakeem Jeffries received over a million dollars from AIPAC? My representative in Florida, Lois Frankel, received over $650,000.00. Lois and people in her office say they are pro-Israel. I’m a Jew. However, I don’t close my eyes to the horrors that go on in Gaza. I spoke to people in her office. This woman kept bringing up Oct. 7th. That was almost a year ago. Israel has killed so many Palestinians since then. People are being starved to death right now. They have bombed many hospitals and schools and homes. I’m sorry!! I will not support people who do nothing about this. Netanyahu is a war criminal and Trump is an idiot to support him. So who will take Trumps place? Who will the Oligarchs support? We are all in Gods hands!!

Bernie is too old to be there. We need fresh blood. We need people with a moral compass and a strong personality aimed at doing good for all of the people. We need someone who knows and understands the Constitution and won't bow down to petty whims, extortion, and bullies. We need younger people to carry the torch while we build the America that we have the potential to be. One where it does not matter your color or gender identity, what matters is that you want the best for all people and you want the country to live up to the ideals that we all once had. Enough with "leaders" who are misogynistic and racist and anti others. Enough with the rhetoric designed to keep us pointing fingers at one another while the rich fleece us and the country.

I don’t really know AOC that well. Don’t get me wrong!! I like that she and Bernie went to different areas of the country to warn about the Oligarchs. I love her for that. When AOC was first in Congress she was part of the “squad”. According to my sister, AOC had made big promises which she didn’t keep. I think Pelosi was in charge at the time and it seemed that AOC had to lay low. I wasn’t that involved in politics at the time. It was when Bernie ran for President. I had just started getting interested in politics.

Expand full comment
VEE LAVALLEE's avatar

Okay Sheila, I get your point. Yet can you not see that many younger people are interested in politics like they never were when I was their age. The fact that you are young should not be a barrier anymore. I love Pelosi too, she is/was an effective leader but where has either her or Chuck Schumer been these past months? Their silence looks like they don't give a damn! They've been stymied because "politicking" ain't like it was in their day. if AOC/Sanders weren't able to do anything of significance it's because the old-timers wouldn't allow it. So that's why they hit the road together. They wanted people to be aware of the extremism of Trumps Republican Party. Who by the way aren't really republicans anymore they are simply an arm of the MAGA movement who are to afraid to buck trumps system of governance. That's just my opinion.

Expand full comment
Aleece Dawson's avatar

To be fair, when campaigning, people are either telling you what you want to hear OR they have ideals they would like to have in place. With our system of government, it is very difficult to be able to follow through on many things due to being blocked by the opposition or not being able to push things through due to the sheer weight of the bureaucracy. That is why so many things need to start at the local level. Small changes locally can add up to changes everywhere if the right notice is taken of the positive effects of those changes on a community. Sometimes when people run for office, they make the promises of things they would like to do and see but, once there, they realize just how impossible carrying out some of those things will be in the current state of the system.
