SPEAKER 4
A busy legal week, Michael Popak and legal AF. First, the United States Supreme Court made its first major ruling in a ruling against Donald Trump in the USAID appeal that went all the way to the highest court of our land. We'll break down the order, what it required
0:22
uh the trump administration to do and the breakdown of the five to four ruling where a trump appointed judge amy coney barrett as well as a george w bush appointed judge the chief justice john roberts joined with the three liberals in a five to four decision as our legal af watchers and listeners know we told you to
0:43
watch for that five to four dynamic develop And we see that developing right there and playing out in that ruling. Let's also talk about Trump's joint session address, not because I really want to talk about it anymore, but because he made a significant admission in it about Elon Musk's position in Doge,

The Supreme Court is absolutely compromised. If it was not unanimous, they are absolutely compromised.

Don't forget Gorsuch. The four of them are ethically questionable (the appearance of impropriety) at best; obviously corrupt at worst (actually improper). Roberts and Barrett are part of the group, too, just not as in-your-face with it. I say expand the court and set term limits. The Constitution allows Congress to do it.

Clarence “Uncle” Thomas was appointed by George HW Bush. Alito was appointed by W Bush. This helps expand lain why these two are very weird.

They have zero credibility nowadays. Where we once looked to them to uphold The Constitution and the laws of the land, sadly, that is no longer the case. What a sad and pathetic state of affairs they've put themselves in.

The viciousness of the GOP is beginning to show and wear thin on Americans who want them to focus on kitchen table issue and not on their vitriol. They are fighting in cabinet meetings with Musk, over his overruling their authorities. They are also going after Justice Barrett and Chief Justice Roberts, after she and he concluded that the administration must release the congress-appropriated funds that Musk froze. The Supreme Court thinkers voted with their heads and the others voted with their party’s preference. Hopefully, these two will continue to think about their votes, rather than bend the knee to Trump et al.

Thank you for all you do on Meidasplus Ben.

What he said about peace in Ukraine was a lie designed to tickle the ears of his supporters. There was not then, nor is there now, a definitive effort to support Ukraine and help them achieve peace. We see that in the "attack on President Zelensky which was staged to drum up even more support from his cult members.

what is especially unnerving is everything is a moving target so there is no way to follow most of it as it changes moment to moment and over time sources of information will whittle down to the size of the head of a pin -- cruelty and sheer evil that must be stopped -- we have already run out time -- why wasn't there a plan within Congress to stop it at the door -- Project 2025 is a published document that has been available for years -- where they just betting an hoping to never need to address and block what was right there in black and white before them -- all of them cowards -- all of the culpable as are we in my view for not pouncing on the Democrats and for literally every one of us not even reading the damn document -- I'm still hopeful very confident we will prevail

Expand full comment
Ed Garland's avatar

Yes, I agree. The pushback against the moving target is here with MTN and The Meidas Mighty. This is the [only] place we come for the truth. MSM is dead to us. They're circling the drain as they continue to serve the most unqualified person to ever sit in the Oval Office.

MSM is a joke and the official "cleanup crew" for trying to normalize the hellish things Trump says and does. He does not do well in the areas of reading and comprehension--and it's been alleged he paid someone to take his SAT. His score is "unknown."

Those who voted for the orange want to be dictator are the ones who didn’t read.

Expand full comment
RAISSA's avatar

Absolutely -- no interest and it is mind boggling -- even people whom you would assume by nature of their education or line of work for example would not just "accept" what they are told and follow the leader blindly over a cliff -- one thing that confuses me is that although all I have read shows there are not thousands of social security checks going out to people age 150 today a social worker educated and in every other way seems he would not parrot this falsehood said to me today -- "you know thousands of checks are going out to people age 150?" I just took a pass and said,

"I follow politics and able to see both side of every issue."

I left it like that leaving unsaid what was in my mind,

"However, based on my own digging for as much info as I can gather on any given issue and fact checking I don't agree with both sides of these issues especially that one about social security."

Please what would anyone here have said in response to a statement like the one my associate made not once but twice over the past two weeks? He says we are in a "time of change and uncertainty" and the economy has in fact been in the grave for a very long time and "Biden's economy was smoke and mirrors not reality" and "thousands of social security checks are going out to people age 150"; and we are now finally taking stock and dealing with the reality of all the fraud and waste and deceit and lies about our economy.

He welcomes everything Trump is doing. I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone can be so blind.

Trump and Project 2025 are taking notes from the Jekyll Island meeting. Details in Secrets of The Federal Reserve spell out how 1929 was planned, and it allowed the appearance of The Robber Barons!

The secret meeting was held at night, and the names of the attendees were hidden. Project 2025 is following that handbook and adding more "ways and means" to reduce America to a repeat of 1929.

- Great Britain: USD 50 billion

- Canada: USD 18 billion

- Australia: USD 15 billion

- Norway: USD 2 billion

- Denmark: USD 2 billion

TOTAL COST 137 billion USD

Ukraine is fighting for survival against an attacking neighbor

For 3 years they have been fighting alone as a shield for all of Europe.

The US has stopped all military support for today for Ukraine

and the White House is demanding an apology from the Ukrainian president

even though it was the Ukrainian president who was humiliated on public for the whole world !

The USA and their president are using mafia methods to force the Ukrainians to sign a business agreement on minerals!

This will go down in history books as the United States turning its back on its friends and partners in the time where it was their turn to prove honor and loyalty !

Consider this, if your loved one starts to feel unwell, seems off, has lost their appetite, etc…you take them to the doctor for a diagnosis, so you can then get them proper treatment and they can get better. If your loved one has cancer, in general the earlier you get a diagnosis the better the prognosis. If your loved one has Covid - or lord help us now measles - the earlier you get a diagnosis then the better you are able to treat the symptoms and isolate them so you can protect others. We need to diagnose what we are seeing. Our body politic is sick. We need to name it. Russia is attacking the USA. Trump, Vance, Musk, etc…are traitors. They work for Russia. Their intention is chaos and destruction and the end of the USA. Their ultimate goal is to wipe democracy off the face of the earth. They are attempting to start WWIII. Name it. So our body politic can be treated before it’s too late and she dies. I promise you, there is power in our seeing it clearly and naming it. If we don’t name it, we can’t treat it properly.

Hi Ed, I hear you but why is he betraying all of our democratic allies? I have started to see everything - all the news and chaos - through the lens that Russia has attacked America and Trump and his fellow traitors are Putin’s inside men and their intention is the destruction of the USA. Russia wants to wipe democracy off the face of the earth. Trump is a Russian asset….once I started looking at every single thing he does through that lens, it all made sense for me. They are attempting to start WWIII.

Expand full comment
Ed Garland's avatar

Brilliant! You’ve answered your own question. One exception—they don’t want WWIII. Trump wants Martial Law. We know this because he said during the campaign, “Just vote for me this one last time. After that we’ll have it ‘fixed so good you won’t have to vote ever again!’”

Translation: He’ll declares Martial Law, stays in office forever because elections don’t apply to a dictator. Oh, and along the way, he will dismantle/destroy the Constitution. No, it’s not WWIII. It’s Dictatorship and a warm and fuzzy with Putrid and the other authoritarian monstrosities in the World.

See, Trump’s problem is he wants to be “one of the boys.” He’s a misfit. He’s never been accepted which is why he used the illusion of great wealth to pretend he had it all together. His failed alliances in the businessworld and devilish bankruptcies put money in his pocket and screwed the people who invested with him. And, as his “legend” grew (based on lies and subterfuge) he became even more bold. He was always a fake, a bully, a pedo and and a sexual predator.

Nobody stopped him back then. Somehow he escaped being reduced to shreds by New York’s Five Families. I still can’t believe the real Teflon Don (John Gotti) and his crew never brought him down to size for using and screwing over so many union members. I can only think he “had it good” with the Mafia and that, too, emboldened him beyond the limits that most of us regular folks could put up with.

Was it like in the old days where he paid for “protection?” Something but that was then and this is now. Betcha’ by golly wow his fat butt never expected to be booed and heckled while on yet another golfing outing.

Vance needs to sit in the Dunce’s corner because he still hasn’t figured out Dumpty made Musk VP and Vance is just window dressing (along with Moronia of Slovenia). 😂 I have a feeling somebody is going to make him an offer he can’t refuse.

Trump Russia Attack USA's avatar

America is under attack by Trump/Putin. Trump has displayed no allegiance to our constitution, a violation of his oath. Foreign bad actors have for years been targeting those suffering to cultivate modern day MAGA, and amplifying the voices with bots. Trump/Russia’s Disinformation warfare’s first victims were MAGA, and our entire country has been harmed. Trump is actively trying to destroy America and is working on behalf of Russia. Speak up. Be bold. Name it so we can see it for what it is and understand what is at stake. Everything is at stake. He will crash our economy - because that was his intention. He will betray America because that is his intention. He will tsilence the press and steal our information so that he can provide it to his true allegiance, Putin and Russia. He is a Russian asset. All of the evidence is there. He is destroying our science and healthcare, education, judiciary, removing all oversight, our FAA, accessing all of our data to use as a weapon against us, and is gutting all of the programs for the vulnerable. It is not helpful to focus on this insanity here or that chaos there. Or what this crazy sycophant or abetter is saying - focus on Trump and that he is working with Russia. See everything through that lens and what appears incomprehensible will finally make perfect sense. He will not stop, his goal is the destruction of the USA. The carnage is the point and will be horrific until we are no longer a democracy and the health, wealth, and values of the USA are demolished and hundreds of millions suffer. We will be unrecognizable soon. DO NOT NORMALIZE THIS. The time is now. Russia is an enemy, and Trump is working for Putin. We have no time to spare. We are actively under attack. We are at war but most don’t know it due to the shock and awe and disinformation that is rampant. Say it. Speak it. Don’t get distracted by the lies and insanity. I learned having been married for years to a narcissistic psychopath that my greatest mistake was trying to understand and look for reasons thinking we had some kind of shared values, trust, compassion, or honesty. They don’t operate like the rest of us. Look at Trump’s actions. See that he works for Putin. Name it. To fight the blitzkrieg of disinformation from Trump and the attack on our country we must first be aware. We Must Name it. Don’t look away. Eyes wide open. Be relentless. When/how do you predict the breakdown that will allow us to regain our country’s guardrails? Impeachment, arrests, all involved in regaining our democracy. Then what/how after that happens in order to protect from future coups?

And charges of Treason? The words in the Constitution on Treason seem to match his/their actions on many fronts. I know there’s a worry about over reaction, to purposely not not abuse charges as the kings of England did, or to set precedence for the future, but he/they are so beyond that now. What’s it going to take? Or are we in a holding pattern, awaiting some key tipping point?

Can you discuss the reason why we as Americans are not challenging the Supreme Court? According to what I’ve understood from other Brennan Center Justice talks the SC is not supposed to be the final decision but rather a reflection of what we as citizens want in a sort of ongoing discussion type process. If the SC becomes less representative of what the people are wanting then it is supposed to be adjusting for that in their decisions. If I’m asking the question incorrectly I apologize. But if you get the gist I would love for you to discuss this and how we can push back on them.

Thank you for this in-depth coverage and what I truly enjoy is the education and time Michael gives to explain a subject he is obviously well versed in and passionate about as well. I heard an analysis here on Substack by a legal expert (Kirshner) of the Paul Clementi (spelling?) brief that expanded a bit further on what was written by him pointing to the great value one particular reference will have when the case reaches the Supreme Court. It was not the work of Beryl-Howell but Clementi. I don't have a recollection of the details, but I expected that aspect of his brief (not sure that is the correct word: brief) to be covered here, and it was not. Apologize for not have the background to present this question in anything other than " confused and uninformed and not versed in law" layman's terms. Thanks again!

The unitary executive theory only is applicable with Republican presidents. The complimentary theory invoked for Democratic presidents by the GOP is the eunuchry theory which blocks any attempt of allowing the president to function competently.

Now, dismissing fair elections, the will of the people, and constitutional limits, the unitary executive theory has become obsolete, morphing into fascist authoritarianism. Cancelling elections and forcing obedience could be the next iteration.

If you believe that the whole country of Israel supports what Netanyahu is pushing, then you should also believe that every single American agrees with what Trump and Musk are saying. If you are an American, then your argument leads to the conclusion that you agree with the Fascist statements by Trump and his buddies and thus you too are a Fascist.

Fwiw, where I live (in a small-town area of MA) there are two groups opposing both the occupation and the war on Gaza. At least half the members of both are Jewish, and some have spent extensive time in Israel. (I'm involved with both but am not Jewish.) Both groups are connected with others across the state and beyond.

Combatants for Peace (an organization formed by Israeli and Palestinian veterans of the conflict) has a U.S. affiliate: American Friends of Combatants for Peace: https://www.afcfp.org/. Fwiw, there are two local groups (I'm in MA) committed to justice for Palestine and strenuously opposed to Netanyahu and the Israeli ultra-right. At least half the active members of both are Jewish, and quite a few have spent serious time in Israel.
