Trump Threatens to Withhold Disaster Aid After Falsely Accusing Biden Admin of Withholding Aid
Trump’s threat draws swift backlash from California Governor Gavin Newsom, who calls the former president “sick” for using disaster aid as a political weapon.

During a rally in Coachella, California, Donald Trump threatened to withhold federal relief to the state just hours after an interview aired where Trump falsely claimed that the Biden Administration was withholding federal relief to North Carolina.
Trump said, “We’re going to take care of our farmers. We’re going to take care of our water situation. We’ll force it down his throat and we’ll say, ‘Gavin, if you don’t do it, we’re not giving you any of that fire money that we send you all the time for all the forest fires you have.’”
Hours before making that statement, Trump claimed during an interview on Newsmax that the Biden Administration was withholding relief aid from North Carolina.
California Governor Gavin Newsom responded: ”.@realDonaldTrump shows us exactly who he is—threatening life-saving disaster aid to achieve his political goals… This man is sick.”
Trump had previously made a similar threat in September.
Early in Trump’s speech, he appeared to be interrupted as someone was escorted out, to which he responded: “She goes back home to mommy… and then she gets the hell knocked out of her.”
Trump claimed that he would rescue California and every town that had been “invaded and conquered.”
Rep. Adam Schiff responded by noting, “Not a single town in California has been ‘invaded’ or ‘conquered’ by anyone. And as a twice-impeached, 4x-indicted, convicted felon, the only advice you are truly competent to give on crime — is how to commit it.”
Trump said he would invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to “target and dismantle every migrant criminal network operating on American soil.” Trump added, “If they come back into our country, it’s an automatic 10 years in jail with no possibility of parole. Ten years. And if that doesn’t work, it will be 20 years. And if that doesn’t work, I guess it’s going to be the death penalty, right?”
Trump had difficulty delivering a line about inflation. He appeared to struggle reading the remark from the teleprompter, which he has repeatedly suggested he doesn’t need. Trump said he would very quickly “defleet” inflation before trying to correct himself with what seemed to be the wrong word, saying he would “deflate” inflation. Trump finally added that he was going to “defeat” inflation.
Trump appeared to suggest that Kamala Harris has not gone to North Carolina.
However, shortly before Trump began his remarks, video and photos emerged of Kamala Harris in North Carolina packing aid kits for families impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Trump claimed California was suffering from “brownouts and blackouts” every weekend before adding “every day.”
Trump said the country would take in hundreds of billions from tariffs to benefit American citizens. However, importers pay the cost of tariffs and typically pass the higher cost on to consumers.
While insisting that he would rebuild Washington, D.C., Trump seemed to inadvertently say “Aurora” while describing graffiti on marble.
Following the rally, Trump supporters were reportedly left stranded in the desert, with no transportation to take them back to their cars in the parking lot roughly 5-6 miles away. Furious Trump supporters took to Twitter to complain about the transportation situation, but of course, found a way to blame it not on Trump’s carelessness, but rather on Democrats.
