I’m subscribed to MeidasTouch because they continue to work incredibly hard to expand their reach throughout the country to anyone who is pro democracy! It’s important for us to be able to communicate with each other through them. I also subscribe to Scott Dworkin, Malcolm Nance, Lev Parnas, and many other trusted independent journalists for different perspectives.

Readers here would do well to expand their horizons and not limit their news consumption to one source - that's what Trump's rabid base does. There will be no change in the misplaced trust of his base.

More effort needs to be put towards understanding the persuadable undecideds. Listening to them, and talking to them, will increase the chances of them seeing the undeniable threat to democracy that is coming from Trump and his sycophants.

There is a lot of wisdom in the saying "don't put all of your eggs in one basket". Read a wide variety of news and opinion. We can't counter the arguments of Trumpers if we don't know what those arguments are. So lets focus more on being informed and less on blindly focusing on one news source. There are quite a few very successful voices defending democracy on Substack that focus on truth without shamelessly promoting themselves.

Why? It didn't matter the first two times. Do you truly believe "Third time's the charm"? Without the 2/3 majority in the Senate (or until the GOP comes to its senses), trump will not be removed and life will go on like it is now. His impeachments are badges of honor to him and his MAGA acolytes. The GOP no longer stands for conservative principles, and is nothing more than populist mob rule. Get out and vote next year to regain control of Congress and trump can be thwarted. There is no excuse for sitting out the election cycle anymore!

Expand full comment
Judy Cross's avatar

I have voted in every election since I became of age to vote. I will always vote, because my vote is important. I am hoping that more of the republicans in the senate will come to their senses. Call me naive, but am seeing some of them questioning and hope that their questioning leads to many more. I do not believe that all republicans believe what tRump is saying and doing is the right path for the US. Unfortunately, they are the minority, but as trump escalates and they see more, I hope that will be an opening that could have consequences. I can't give up that hope. It is hard for me to believe that there is so much evil in our world, starting at the WH and working it's way down the line.

If our elected officials do not think voting for an impeachment regardless of outcome does any good, then, we are already too far into this coupe. If symbolism like taking a knee instead of standing for the national anthem, the little Boston tea party, and the red white and blue of our flag mean nothing, then why should we donate to Dems who have already given up to have our donations count for nothing and be meaningless?

Because it was based on Iran..... no consensus. There IS on the Big Crappy bill.

The real fight is in the senate.

“To my friends in the Senate, lock yourself in a room if you must, don’t go home, and GET THE DEAL DONE THIS WEEK,” Trump wrote Tuesday on Truth Social. “Work with the House so they can pick it up, and pass it, IMMEDIATELY. NO ONE GOES ON VACATION UNTIL IT’S DONE.”

The parlimentarian ruled out the sale of national parks and national lands from the Big Crappy bill. Hope it holds up.

From NBC. A significant source of consternation is the steeper Medicaid cuts in the Senate bill, which include lowering provider taxes that are used to fund the program, and limiting payments to states.

Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., who faces re-election in a battleground state next year, warned his party at a meeting Tuesday that it will lose the 2026 midterm elections if it pushes ahead on proposed Medicaid cuts. He compared the situation to the heavy losses Democrats suffered in the 2014 midterms after a rocky Obamacare rollout, according to a source in the room.

Tillis circulated a document Monday with estimates of how much Medicaid money states would lose if the Senate bill passes, including $38.9 billion in losses for North Carolina, $16 billion for Tennessee and $6.1 billion for Missouri.

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., said the current version of the bill — which would also extend the 2017 Trump tax cuts — doesn’t have enough votes and would harm rural hospitals in his state.

.

We need to encourage dissenting Congressional Republicans.

“Senate leadership now needs to fix this. They’re the ones who have invented this new rural hospital defund scheme that the House says they can’t pass, that’s going to close rural hospitals,” he said. “It was a bad idea on their part to fool around with it.”

Republicans are looking at creating a fund to protect rural hospitals from the negative consequences of their bill. Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., said only a small proportion of Medicaid funds go to those institutions, but he argued that “having a fund specifically for rural hospitals is a targeted way to help ensure their viability.”

Senate GOP leaders want to include the Medicaid cuts to limit the bill’s red ink. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projects that the version the House passed would add $2.4 trillion to the debt over the next 10 years.

Impeachment doesn’t mean removal though. He was impeached twice his first term and was never removed from office. This needs to kept in the back of minds of the people. Some of them have taken one look and taken a pass because it feels so click-baity and sensationalist. I’m a Midas Mighty, but they’re not making it easy.
