Go out and stock up on coffee, and Brazil nuts, ASAP! But on top of all the other deeply alarming things this country is suddenly doing, it’s so infuriating to see our previously stable, financial futures going up in smoke! I was settling into retirement, and now I’m worried out of my mind. About everything. Among which is how do I start working, all over again, at my age, so I can set aside money for a recession and to offset future Medicare and probably Social Security cuts?

I am stocking up on food. I am worried as well and still working part time at the age of 66. I have money in an account but told my financial advisor to put everything in gold and silver. If worst comes to worst I can sell my condo and move in with my daughter.

Taking the US economy with it, and dragging down the global economy as well, but the rest of the world is already taking steps to limit the damage, as this article points out (the EU, UK, Canada and Mexico are actually a far more important trading bloc).

Maybe a Depression is what it will take to make enough Americans pay attention to the destruction of their country. The wholesale dismantling of science and medical research, the crippling of foreign affairs, defense and intelligence capabilities, and the demolition of wide swathes of the federal government that provide critical service hasn't been enough.

If we did ever have a depression, the MAGA's would blame it on Biden so I'm not sure even that would change their minds.

A very good piece that should be essential reading for anyone doubting that the POSOTUS is putting our economy in jeopardy. I can’t blame the BRICs for looking out for their interests. I blame Trump for not looking out for ours. He looks out only for himself.

Trump and maga world do not have the intelligence to even look out for themselves. The situation we are in here as the author states ( paraphrasing): That Trump sees international economic relationships (all relationships really) as zero sum game instead of mutually beneficial / win-win. That is the mindset of an adolescent with development issues (and I speculate of Neanderthals). The destructive obtuseness of this is mind-blowing. As stupid as they are, It is hard to believe that maga / trump really insists that this going to benefit them. Invest in silver and gold and Japan and Latin America. Don't bet the ranch, but make some reasonable investments.

Within a couple months the rest of the world will dump the dollar as the reserve currency. I also expect foreigners to dump Treasury securities. That will lead to Trump defaulting on the debt.

The shockwaves are gonna be far worse than the Great Depression.

If we do not get rid of these degenerate people in power in the US soon, we will become a nation subordinate economically to China and India. No longer will the US dominate the world stage. Maybe that's not a bad thing, if it wakes up the complacent masses to throw out the authoritarian goons currently in charge, and we become the progressive nation we are meant to be. Caring for all our people, not just the greedy robber barons who are orchestrating our decline for their short term profit.

Congressional Democrats must be much more vocal about the potential for economic disaster of epic proportions, it seems that Trump ravages us unchecked while the folks we elected to protect us stand politely by , tut-tutting and not much else. It is time for all of us to contact these elected Senators and Representatives, to demand that we see them and hear them speaking coherently about what could be done to change the calculus. Contact the Republicans too, to remind them that you are their constituents and that you vote…and that they ignore the wellbeing of constituents at their professional peril.

One of my Democratic US Senators is "concerned" and finds it all "disturbing and troubling".

That is always her response. That is how she fights for her constituents.

It's the Democratic Party Way !

Her approach is "We must be respectful of our Republican colleagues and vote with them for their agenda".

Get in touch with your local Party and see if there are any potential challengers. Respect and co-operation are no longer working strategies in Congress. Let your Rep know that you're exploring options to replace her-and wanting to see concrete solutions and the calling out of the hypocrisy of voting against constituents’ interests, instead of concern. She doesn’t have to get aggressive and nasty, just firm and creative, if she cannot, maybe there’s someone who will. Primaries are a-comin’.

The sad part about trumps messing around with trade while not understanding anything about how it works, is that the USA will be left out of trading relationships altogether. That the world doesn't trust America anymore is obvious. Once TRUST IS GONE then it's an uphill battle to regain it. America won't be able to just get to where they were prior to trump 2.0 they'll have to be BETTER than where they were. You can thank your "stable genius" for that too!

Thank you, Max for another fantastic overview of our current macroeconomic situation‼️ Clearly the handwriting is on the wall and it doesn’t favor the USA‼️ As you said repeatedly in your video, it doesn’t have to be this way! Under Biden‘s administration, our economy was firing on all cylinders, and we looked to be the envy of the world, now that’s all in the rearview mirror and we have nobody to thank for our reversal of fortune but Trump‼️ He and his 🤡 Clown Cabinet are busily trying to drive America’s economic future into the ground‼️😱🙄🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ May God help us all‼️

[O]ver four days last week, without fanfare, the Fed vacuumed up $43.6 billion in U.S. Treasurys. That’s $8.8 billion in long-dated 30-year bonds on May 8 alone, plus another $34.8 billion earlier in the week. … Quietly returning to the quantitative-easing trough isn’t standard Fed housekeeping….This isn’t tightening. It’s stealth easing. It’s monetary policy on tiptoes. MarketWatch May 17, 2025 | https://www.marketwatch.com/story/why-is-the-fed-quietly-buying-billions-in-bonds-and-hoping-nobody-notices-6bda3791

"The monetary authorities of U.S. adversaries are likely to continue buying gold as a dollar alternative." The BRICS nations — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa — are eager to create a dollar alternative and also are big buyers of gold … The People's Bank of China (PBOC) increased its gold holdings for a seventh straight month in May to $3.285 trillion, from $3.282 trillion the previous month." The PBOC's determination to continue buying gold at such elevated prices ... demonstrates Beijing's urgency to diversify away from the dollar.” … That's also manifested in China's declining holdings of U.S. Treasuries. From $784 billion in February, China's holdings of U.S. debt dropped to $757 billion by the end of April.
