I think Mandami is straight forward and doesn’t play those manipulative games. He has a job to doc and he’s going to do it, regardless of Trump’s position. He laid out his plan…Trump liked it, for whatever reason and who knows how/what he thinks and plans. So here we are 👍🏻.

Expand full comment
Camille Kelly's avatar

I don't think trump would ever support a plan of taxing the rich to help the middle class, his policies are the exact opposite of that.

Of course, I don't know exactly what trump's true motives are, I'm simply speculating.

I think Mamdani comes across as genuine and extremely likeable and I wish him all the luck in the world to accomplish his goals. I'm hoping his successes will help the democratic party recognize that their centrist, corporate sponsored messaging is outdated and that progressive policies excite voters, especially the working class voters who have seen their economic futures stagnate while the corporate wealthy grow greedier and more powerful.

Expand full comment
Sherry Sturgeon Clark's avatar

People need to feel hope, not necessarily excitement, for their lives. Mondami isn’t interested in taxing the rich - that’s a Trump issue Mondami can’t influence as a Mayor; his focus is clearly quality of life in NYC. His eyes are on the right goals for his constituents. I don’t live in NYC but his common sense gives me hope for the rest of our country, too!

Expand full comment
Camille Kelly's avatar

Mamdani has proposed increasing taxes on the wealthy through a 2 percent point income tax on salaries over a million and a corporate tax hike to 11.5%. He estimates this tax will generate the money necessary to fund his agenda, so the corporations and wealthiest residents will pay this not the general public. NYC residents pay a personal tax to the city in addition to state and federal taxes.

Trump started his political career making anti-Islamic statements. Many of his supporters echoed those same prejudices, most likely resulting from what happened on 9/11. Per BBC News:

"Trump has repeatedly warned of the dangers of "radical Islamic terrorism" - a line viewed as a direct rebuke of Barack Obama, who while president had pointedly refused to use the term.

He slammed Mr Obama and Hillary Clinton for being "founders" of the so-called Islamic State. He publicly feuded with the parents of a Muslim US soldier killed in Iraq. He has, at times, advocated a temporary ban on Muslims entering the US and instituted a "watch list" for those already in the US.

These policies and actions, critics say, reveal an anti-Islamic animus that lies at the heart of Mr Trump's politics.

"From start to finish, the 2016 presidential election vividly revealed that Islamaphobia is alive, and potent and politically resonant as ever," writes, external University of Detroit Professor Khaled Baydoun. "Scapegoating Islam and vilifying Muslims was far more than merely campaign messaging; for Donald Trump it was a winning strategy."

...and made the priority already in spring of 2017 to rush to saudia&its gulf satellites and shower mbs & his regime with lavish and lucrative gifts and finances (stolen from American taxpayers btw.) so to get only worse, throughout this decade!!

Therefore, Camille Kelly, give me a break, please, I'm not that stupid.

The point I'm trying to make you understand is - tRumputin&his kkkult adore all the worst sorts of criminals in no matter what religion!! At the same time, tRumputin&his kkkult, typically, hate the most the nicest people who happen to be, in that instance, Muslims only because they're liberal and democratic Muslims.

I thought Mamdani knew that. Now, I'm not so sure.

Fox News host on Trump-Mamdani meeting: ‘I think JD Vance is jealous’

by Surina Venkat - 11/21/25 7:59 PM ET.

https://thehill.com/homenews/media/5618289-kilmeade-vance-trump-mamdani/

“I think you’re going to have, hopefully, a really great mayor,” Trump told reporters. “The better he does, the happier I am.”

“There’s no difference in party, there’s no difference in anything,” he said. “And we’re going to be helping him to make everybody’s dream come true. Having a strong and very safe New York.”

Trump added that he would live in New York City under Mamdani in response to a reporters’ question.

“Yeah, I would,” he said. “I really would. Especially after the meeting.”

....

“This was a love fest. This was a respect fest,” Fox hack Brian Kilmeade said.

So let's say there was nothing more nefarious from Mamdani's side - he certainly risked being seen as careless of the ramifications his move would've had in American public.
