Yes, Hal, I saw that as well, along with Marc Elias on her program. The surveillance program I'd read about previously was frighteningly explicated by Maddow and the analyst (can't recall her name now) she interviewed on the subject. DT pulling out all the stops to oppress us using our tax dollars.
After I saw Rachel I knew I had to write about it today. Early in the Turmp regime she seemed to feel some hope, but now she is as pessimistic as I am, well almost as despairing. Few are quite as gloom-ridden and fatalistic as I am.
I don't know, Hal -- I'm feeling pretty dark about things and what little hope seems to derive from being involved with Meidas, but seeing Rachel like last night it seems more often we're grasping at proverbial straws. I have deep admiration for Ben and especially Ron, though my heart is filled with emotion for Marc Elias, his fearless Democracy Docket team, as well as the heroism of Democracy Forward, Public Citizen, and ProPublica in their ceaseless dedication to defend and uphold our Constitution against authoritarianism. Marc making the rounds of MSNBC news programs is doing his utmost to reach a broader electorate although he's likely preaching to the choir of a more liberal audience. Too many out there succumb to the MAGA media.
I see others like Norm Eisen, Jennifer Rubin, Thom Hartmann, and many more allies trying to inspire people to fight back in various legal ways, but I sometimes think they are desperately trying not to get sucked into the whirlpool of despair I used AI to show (in my Substack) of someone representing me about to drown. Again and again I urge people to engage in self-care but also try not to delude themselves.
Indeed, those individuals and numerous indefatigable others are at the forefront of resistance-confrontation-persistance as you note. Self-care is important in the face of a reality seemingly beyond our control.

The thing of it is about a sleeping America is that just over half of us are awake and of that half seven million we know of FOR CERTAIN were not only wide awake, but were mobilized enough to go to NO KINGS protests. Yet the other half, to varying degrees, are asleep. That's why I included "Half the nation is okay, blasé, or in favor of a police state" in the title of my Substack.

It was indeed grotesque, Julie. I had to wonder about the cheering, laughing, and clapping service members who most likely were compelled to be a photo-op audience. I found his DEI comments before that assembly particularly offensive.
Especially as they are not getting paid, so there is no money going to their families. UGH - surprised they didn't charge the stage!
That fact as well is the huge irony obsessing me in trying to observe the faces of those Navy members (many people of color) for their visible responses to his wicked wall of lies and nonsense. He just thinks he's a TV star, some kind of lame-o burnt-out third-rate comedian who just doesn't want to give up the mic once he's behind it. Those poor folks indeed, over an hour of that demented drivel that made me cringe watching at two a.m. PST. I kept asking why I was torturing myself?
Someone must hold up a "clap" sign and a "laugh" sign at the appropriate moments. They probably got paid to be there, which is nice since their normal pay is being with held.
