Good morning, Meidas Mighty. I’m taking your advice and enjoying my coffee with a side of toast this morning to avoid a stomach ache. Thanks for the tip—it’s working. I think.

I’ve been reflecting on President Biden’s legacy this morning.

His speech yesterday at the Brookings Institution in D.C. made me a little emotional.

President Biden inherited a catastrophic mess left by Donald Trump in 2021 and cleaned it up masterfully. During his presidency, America never had a single month of job losses. Biden created 16.1 million jobs—the most of any president in history.

We experienced historically low unemployment. America led the world in GDP growth. America achieved energy independence. We focused on the climate. President Biden’s Infrastructure Act, Inflation Reduction Act, and CHIPS Act were historic pieces of legislation. He championed workers. He acted normal.

There was a moment during President Biden’s speech yesterday when he said, half-jokingly, that he could have learned from Donald Trump to put his name on the American Recovery Act checks he provided early in his term. I think Biden said this “half-jokingly” because, deep down, he recognizes that if he had been less humble—if he had spent his time bragging and boasting instead of keeping his head down and doing the hard work—perhaps he would have received more credit for his historic achievements.

One of the things I appreciated most about President Biden was the lack of drama. I liked how humble he was. Republicans and the media, however, framed this lack of chaos, theatrics, and drama as “sleepy.” The silent confidence of President Biden was twisted into a negative.

I don’t want to spend much time in this post discussing Trump drama, like his appointment of Kimberly Guilfoyle as Ambassador to Greece after Don Jr. was publicly seen holding hands with another woman. Or Hungary’s authoritarian leader and Putin emissary visiting Mar-a-Lago. As I said above, your toast suggestion helped cure my coffee-related stomach ache, and discussing topics like this might undo that progress.

So I’m just not going to talk about it right now. That okay?

In some personal news, my beautiful baby girl Ximena is doing amazing. She’s a little over two months old now. I’ll try to share a new photo soon—once I get the okay from my wife.

I’m also preparing to return to teaching at USC Law next semester. I already have about 100 students signed up for my class. I took this semester off to be with my baby girl, but last night, I started preparing my syllabus.
