My husband and I have been to a few protests through the years. This will be the first in our little rural town. We've never seen any violence or threatening from our police but I live in Mass so totally different than the republican led states like FL where gov desantis has reminded people they can run down protesters with cars, government sanctioned vehicular homicide! I can't even imagine any elected official in our state advocating for this. It's hard to even grasp how far our country and our freedoms have fallen.

So before I replied "What tosh!", I decided to research it myself.
That's why I wrote it. I saw him say it in an interview. I always check sources to make sure they're legitimate before I post. This might have come from a Guardian video, NYT or WAPO or even an AOL story. I read several publications a day so it's difficult to remember the source. This was enacted as law in FL after trump was elected. It may be "nuanced" as desantis claims but "stand your ground" didn't work out well for Trayvon Martin if you shop for a sympathetic jury which seems easy to find in FL. A good portion of this country is truly frightening. I live in a republican majority area of Mass so see it constantly.
There really should be a "Shake my head in despair" button.
I live in the UK - I cannot begin to tell you the level of support you have here (despite not wanting a king! And you most definitely cannot have ours!) It doesn't matter what they vote for, Conservative, Labour, LibDem, Green - they are all horrified by what is happening in the US.
And it is being taken on board as a warning against the Reform Party led by Nigel Farrage.
People in other countries should watch on in horror at what is happening in the USA and see it as a warning of how dangerous the right wing is. We see totalitarianism being embraced by so many countries now. Italy, Poland, Germany, France, Japan and others too many to list. Canada only dodged a bullet because of trump's attacks on their sovereignty. Poilievre, a far right trump wannabe candidate who leading in the polls until trump started his attacks and threats.
As much as it's easy to have these thoughts, we don't really want to be 'them'. I'm of the not wanting to cause someone's death, but there are many I could name who's obituary would certainly NOT cause me grief.
I didn't mean that harm should come to him. That's why I said that he would probably be hiding behind locked doors. I don't want obituaries, I want jail. I think that would be more of a statement. Just got home from a protest. About 300 people (very small town) and one city policeman patrolling. Very peaceful.
