Please remember that government attorneys such as Mueller and more recently Jack Smith have tried their hardest to stop Trump and MAGA by working within the legal system. They both failed. The reason:

1. Congress and the Supreme Court are corrupt and will fall in line to support Trump when called upon. We have no checks and balances at all. The Court became corrupt when Trump appointed his last Justice. As of 1/20/25, all three branches of government are corrupt.

2. MAGA is a cult. It controls any outlying traditional Republicans with threats of challenges to their Congressional seat. This is insidious and pervasive, but also transparent. MAGA and Trump hold nothing back. MAGA even published Project 2025.

3. Most voters decided that despite the above, Trump should again be President with a MAGA agenda. Citizens who voted for Trump, or who chose not to vote at all, acquiesced to that agenda, as well as the corruption, illegalities and suffering that we are now seeing come to pass. Basically, voters said, ok, go ahead with your plans, even if some are illegal, violate the Constitution, whatever. We are electing you anyway. We want a change.

The country voted; it is done. Those of us who are pro -democracy may and should resist, organize, plan, educate, publish, write, protest, draft corrective amendments and legislation, set up an opposition government ready to assume control when called upon as occurs in countries with parliamentary systems, etc. Start at the local levels.

We are all in disarray now but people will organize. To me, the Democratic Party is an obstacle, not a help or vehicle. It sinks in its own traditions, legacies and rhetoric. It will not unite people. We need a new Coalition that is pro-democratic and otherwise broad policy-wise. I am hoping that we will be able to develop a new forum and platform that will allow for communication and action.

Don' forget to lay blame with his co-conspiritors the Justices of the Supreme Court who told him not even a year ago that he has full Presidential Immunity for whatever he does as President.

That is a power he did not have the first time around.

He is even more dangerous this time because the Supreme Court gave him full Presidential Immunity.

He now trades Pardons for votes, like a cheap pushcart vender.

He pardoned all the Abortion clinic terrorists for the religious vote. Just let them all out of jail to go and crime again against women.

And he can do it, he has full Presidential Immunity, he is untouchable. The only way to stop him is with the 25th Amendment or Impeachment, and those ain't gonna happen so here we are, along for the ride and simply hanging on tight for our lives.

And the top it off some of the stuff that he is doing executive orders are illegal so they’re really not gonna be in effect because he’s just doing whatever the hell he wants and he is going to fulfill that 2025 agenda ice and I just can’t believe that these this country voted this man in to make us turn into a slave market

Me either Maria, me either. How could they?

There is a quote I can't fully remember, maybe someone here will remember and help me out. It is something like if you can convince a white man he is better than any black man you have him in your hand. And that is what Trump did, remember "black jobs?" And he did it towards immigrants, made every white man think he is better than any immigrant.

Expand full comment
Michael Stayton's avatar

I think this is one:

President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/lbj-convince-the-lowest-white-man/

For today's time:

"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best black or brown man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

Expand full comment
olderwoman's avatar

THANK YOU Michael Stayton, thank you. I'll remember that LBJ said it.

And speaking of LBJ, what did you think about Trump's striking down LBJ's executive order on government contractors having to have affirmative action in their workforce? I mean Trump went all the way back to LBJ -to LBJ- to strike again against minorities.

Here is the truth, most businesses are owned and run by white men. And ppl tend to hire people like themselves, it is a natural inclination, they don't even realize they are doing it many times. Soooo by being forced under the threat of not getting a government contract, it forced white men to pause and really think about the job applicants and examine their conscious and subconscious prejudice. It was good for everyone including women who were shut out of executive positions just like the black and brown men were. That executive order was good for women too. And Trump truck it down. All the way back to LBJ, he struck it down.

Expand full comment
Michael Stayton's avatar

I click LIKED for what you said. I do NOT like what they is doing with that EO. I did not realize women were included.

Revision for today's time:

"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best black or brown man OR the best white, black or brown woman, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

MAGA progression:

MAGA : Make America Great Again

MWAGA : Make White Americans Great Again

MWAMGA : Make White American Men Great Again

MWRAMGA : Make White Rich American Men Great Again

The last one represents the days of white men running slave plantations pre Civil War. Which is where we are heading toward with Trump 2.0.

Are there any current Republicans who are not MAGA and not retiring? In any event, I think it's quite simple. Trump's supporters in Congress are letting him do whatever he wants for one or more of these 3 things: money, power, attention. In other words, they want to keep their jobs no matter what, and they don't care about the effect on America. I don't think anyone is a politician out of the goodness of their heart. There's always some love of that triad that goes along with politics ON BOTH SIDES! Hated saying that, but it's true. Look at what happened with Biden. He liked the power and attention if not the money -- though Hunter certainly did -- and didn't care that by trying to retain the Presidency, he effectively turned America over to Trump.

Expand full comment
Dennis Sitka's avatar

Complain about Biden? hmmm. The man was quite able to beat Trump until his age got the best of him. You forgot to mention he organized the greatest allied resistance to Putin in modern times, managed to eke out a ceasefire in Gaza. Made history by nominating the first Black woman to the Supreme Court and selected Kamala Harris, the first woman of multi-ethnic background as vice president, and passed an awesome infrastructure bill. He made mistakes, but nothing compared to the MAGA attack dogs that spent millions trying to "impeach" him for,,, what? If you need someone to blame, take a look at the 30% of eligible Americans that weren't interested enough to vote at all.
