Thank you for the answer. I found on the web an explanation that says the fund was set up so that it cannot be used for anything else but excess funds each year are invested in government bonds which are used to pay for things that Congress approves so that may be where the misconception about Congress taking money out of the fund comes from. The thing that worries me, though, is that the trustees are four cabinet members and two public trustees. The public trustee positions have been vacant since 2015 so Trump will be appointing the four cabinet members and also possibly the two public trustees. Somehow, the notion of Trump appointing the trustees of my retirement funds does not give me a lot of confidence.

But thump wants the ability to choose NOT to spend monies that congress allocate. And NOT spending money may well be something this govt of otherwise DISorganized rightists might just be able to get together to do.

If they removed any funds to do with what they want they cannot legally do this.
