When FDR and his Administration were working out the details of the Soc. Sec Act that finally passed in 1935, the most liberal of them were outraged because he argued that half the soc sec. Tax had to come out of the workers’ pay , with the other half being paid by the employer. President Roosevelt told them wisely, “I want it this way because this way the people will know their money went into it. One day in the future some President is going to try to take it away from them and ThIS WAY THE PEOPLE WON’T let them!”
