Here's what a poem does, been writing them for 55 years. It gets people out of their usual frame of reference, thinking about ideas in new ways, and they get to use their creative minds to solve emotional dilemmas, and explore subjective truths and falsehoods and compare them to objective realities not previously considered. Poems require or demand a flexible mind and there is often a moral question to be solved. Poems make a particular kind of song and vice versa. The mind runs and dreams on metaphors, even creates itself and can motivate people to move in political ways, and they can sustain a person while great social upheavals are occurring in real time and can provide a place of peace where a soul meets itself. Since you are apparently not a self-absorbed "POS", then you were probably able to throw away the Peace Movement of the 1960's. And knowing Dylan's music, or Peter Paul and Mary's song, "If I Had a Hammer", and since you are probably dedicated to killing all your memories of those self-absorbed Peace-Niks, may I suggest the Beatles, "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" or PPM's, Hammer song, and use the hammers of their music to tap some sense into your head.
