I wish we still had Mitt Romney around the Senate chamber to try and round about a handful of Republicans to do so. The Regan Republicans have been essentially purged from the party and it’s hard to see them caring about their own constituents. But he was someone who was brave enough at times to speak up.

On the national security track, virtually all the Republican members of the armed services and intelligence committees openly oppose Trump's position vis a vis Ukraine. In the House, Don Bacon, R. NE, Mike Tunrner R, O, many others. E.G. https://bacon.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=2616
A couple of weeks ago I published the letter Rick Scott sent me, in effect calling Trump a liar on Ukraine.
E.G. where I live 3 MAGATS represent a Dem majority. All are Cuban Americans. 2 of 3 were once Dems -- switched due to Cuba policy.
Here's an example...."Editor’s note: Miami healthcare CEO Michael “Mike” B. Fernandez wrote the following open letter to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and members of the Republican Cuban-American Miami-Dade congressional delegation: U.S. Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart, Carlos Giménez and Maria Elvira Salazar. For decades, I have stood with you in defense of the freedoms we cherish, those we were denied in the country of our birth and found in the grace of this one. I know what it means to flee tyranny. Like you, I carry that history in my bones and that pain in my heart. But like a growing number in our community, I have watched with dismay as the very values we once found sanctuary in are now being attacked by a previously unthinkable threat — the sitting president of the United States."
Pickets at my Congeresswomans office. Pickets at CANF -- the Cuban American National Federation.
Besides that Cubans and all minorities bear the DEI brunt from Musk and his Muskovites. Every government, business, here are bi if not tri lingual. People were hired on that basis.
Plus, we have more Canadian Americans than live in some provinces. Were (past tense) mostly pro business Republicans. 54,000 Floridians work for Canadian businesses. We've lost about 3 mil tourists this year..
It won't matter. MAGA (and its insurrectionist militia) is using massive threats against all of them (and doesn't hesitate to put them into practice). The GOP is lost forever to neofascism. What we need to do is have real, respectful debates with their voters, so that Democrats win in a landslide in 2026 and 2028.
The 2024 election was obviously stolen. 50% of the American people didn't even know anything about the state of the economy yet, on Nov. 5, and MAGA voters were plunged, deliberately, in a totally fake, "alternative news" bubble, combined with propaganda that was truly fascist in nature. And then there was the massive voter suppression, which the SAVE Act (bill that the neofascist GOP is now trying ot get through Congress) will only make even worse.
I've had similar thoughts/feelings about Romney. I was living in MA when
he was governor, although as a freelance musician I admit to seldom getting deeply into politics and how many people played with it (likewise I was there when Dukakis was governor for the second time - he was such a class act).
But Romney too often seemed to say or do something that was just
not right - and that may show where I am not as deeply connected with
politics. He just seemed to possess a sound sense of ethics, and then
I know the guy that was going to try and get rid of the ACA and treat corporations like people is to be “decent” and now one of the leaders of the opposition in the GOP is Mitch McConnell of all people.

Plenty of them are under pressure now.

Many more are confronting Musk

Read Feathers of Hope. We may never get another vote and if we do it may be fixed.
IMHO we were robbed in 2024.

You wrote a really excellent comment.
Thank you.
Thank you for all of that informative Judge! It gives me more hope than before. People are standing up and have their elbows up.

Well said!
Funny how in days like today we ask ourselves, where is Mitt Romney or some like him. =)

Yes, I was just remembering when John McCain gave his 'thumbs down' to getting rid of the ACA!
