Is it legal? He doesn't care. He isn't even trying to hide his schemes anymore, the criminality is right out in the open. It is frighting just how little people really know what trump is doing. Corporate and far right media spent most of the last 12 months sane-washing trumps Fronto Temporal Dementia, then after Jan 20 they normalized everything trump did and for the most part ignored the massive incompetence of his appointees. trump actions together with corporate media inactions are killing network TV as they are no longer trusted to tell us what is really going on. If not for independent media like The Guardian and MTN, cult trump propaganda would be all we would ever see.
No it is not legal from all the non fox news reporting I've seen. But the really sad thing is that there are not even 4-5 Republican Congressmen/women and 3-4 Republican Senators who care that he breaks the law and ignores the Constitution.
In a simple phrase, "not legal." Not constitutional. And their cover is the claim it will be "donated to the Trump Library," the place where all the board books with bright pictures & glowingly positive books ABOUT him are going to be stored, but does that mean that the plane's going to sit in the middle of the grand hallway of wherever this Horror Hotel is constructed? Or does it mean it's going to be in the "ownership of the library" while he uses it to fly back & forth to his hotels & golf courses & money losing casinos in Qatar & Saudi Arabia & the UAE? Remains to be seen. Obviously there are OTHER Remains that we'd wish to see, but he ain't there yet..
I read what Schmendryck wrote and also that the legality of the "gift" was being reviewed by both sides. Further, the plane wouldn't even be available, if approved, until the last year of Trump's reign. Then how long before it would be determined to be cleared Security wise?
Unless Trump is going to tell Qatar all he wants in the plane, so it meets his specifications, I would hope that we don't have to fix it up for his approval and then let him have it.
Well, if it is going to be used for Air Force One then it has to be retrofitted - and that is paid out of the taxpayers dollars. So... yes, he intends to have it fixed up the way he wants it and to meet the requirements of a secure plane for a president, and then keep it afterwards.
Where is the money going to come from? The cutting and gutting of services and the layoffs and firings of the civil service.
I have to amend my comment above to indicate that there's a likely legal financial looohole that the administration is exploiting. I'd love to see someone with some legal chops examine this & see factually just what WSJ is looking at to report this.
I just got through reading Michael Popok's evaluation. You should read it on his Legal AF substack - or watch the video of Brian Tyler Cohen's interview with Jamie Raskin or both. Good info.
If it his gift and he is allowed to accept it (which I expect to happen because of the lack of spines in our Congress - they use their mouths way too much and for all the wrong reasons) he should have to be responsible for and $ that has to be put in it. After all, it's not going to be government property.
I read somewhere that he would be using it when he left office. I took the way I read it to be that it was Trump's own plane not the governments. Don't know if true.
It will "technically" belong to "The Trump Library," but thats as likely as not going to turn out to be a large walk-in closet at Mar-A-Lago, & the ownership of the plane, while the library's, will be trump's to do with as he sees fit.
No, it's not legal, but as Timothy says, trump does not care. Jamie Raskin was interviewed by Brian Tyler Cohen about this very subject and explained what would have to be done to enforce the unconstitutionality of accepting a gift from anyone. Check it out.
Is is legal for him to accept this gift(bribe)? I read that he will be taking it with him when he leaves the WH.

Let's stress that: LET HIM HAVE IT!!!
(as in "...to da MOON, Alice!!!")
Tax write off if part of "library " as a donation
