This week, I had a powerful conversation with Congresswoman Suzan DelBene, the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. With all the chaos we are seeing across the country, I wanted to ask the DCCC chair directly about how Democrats plan on beating back Donald Trump’s desperate, democracy-rigging agenda.
Right now, Trump’s approval is circling the drain. More Americans, including independents, are identifying as Democrats. And in response? MAGA Republicans are tossing their masks aside, saying the quiet part loud. On Fox “News,” their paid propagandists openly admit they want to gerrymander Democrats “out of existence.” Trump is literally ordering GOP-led states to redraw maps mid-decade to cling to power. He is a two-bit wannabe dictator giving orders to his foot soldiers.
Congresswoman DelBene told us what she’s seeing in Republicans: they’re running scared. Republicans know they can’t win on ideas because they have none. They don’t talk about lowering costs, improving health care, or actually listening to voters — they talk about pleasing Trump. Meanwhile, Democrats are overperforming in special elections by double digits since last year.
The DCCC is targeting 35 districts, needing just three flips to take back the House. DelBene told me they’re recruiting strong, local candidates who can win even in Trump districts. It turns out when people hear the truth about how Republicans have raised costs, gutted health care, and jacked up energy prices, they’re ready for change.
We also talked about the absurdity of Trump telling Americans he “solved inflation” while grocery bills, rent, and gas prices soar thanks to his policies. When confronted with his lies, Trump shrugs and says he was “being sarcastic.” That’s his leadership style: gaslight, deflect, and hope voters are too distracted to notice he’s failing them.
But here’s the good news: people are noticing. People are angry. People are organizing. We’re already seeing it in the data and in recent election results. And if we match that energy with strategic action, democracy can prevail — not just despite Trump’s rigging, but because voters are fed up with it.
This is the moment to stay informed, stay motivated, and stay engaged. The GOP’s desperation is a sign of weakness. Let’s make sure we make Trump and the Republicans’ worst fears come true in 2026.
