Here’s an idea about how we can begin to make Jan. 6 ours. Let’s invite We the People (that means us) to fly a flag, wear a flag pin, tape a picture of a flag in your front window, whatever works, on Jan 6 2025 to show our solidarity that We The People (1) Love America, (2) Believe in the founding values expressed in the Declaration of Independence and implemented in the Constitution and Bill of Rights and (3) Will Never stop working toward a More Perfect Union. Promote it on social media, talk about it wherever you go, write Letters to the Editor if you’re lucky enough to still have a local newspaper. I promise I’ll actually buy and fly a flag if this idea takes off. What do you think? I think we should call it We the People Day. And take it away from the MAGA gang.

Vaclav Havel, The Power of the Powerless. Groups of people from all over the place forming a union. Key word is PEOPLE

Yes, definitely need to take a stand for Democracy but you know the Media will twist it, just as MAGA will. They will consider it a celebration of the incoming Admin. Somehow have to make it clear (and I do like this) that "We the People" are not happy with the direction our Country is being taken.

I see strength in celebrating our patriotism, our understanding of American values and our commitment to them. The disappointment is noted in the “never stop working” third point. We can follow up We the People Day with protests once we’ve told our story of what we are for.

Connie, I apologize. This is all so overwhelming to me (as I am sure it is to most everyone) and as a result I misunderstood (scanning the posts too quickly i guess) & misunderstood, thought you were considering this action for Inauguration Day. My apologies.

I understand. Unfortunately, when I see a Flag on a truck, hanging outside someone's house or on clothing, I immediately think MAGAs. It is sad and in some cases unfair but that's where my mind goes. I do have friends who are 💯 Progressives and they have a Flag hanging outside because they say it's our Flag as well. MAGAs don't own it. I get it but still I cringe when I see it. Terrible I know. At the Farmer's Market in a pretty liberal area, my friend and I saw someone with a yellow and gold MAGA hat. He was so proud - walking with his head held high. Gross.

I probably should explain that I took some inspiration from Kamala Harris’s campaign theme of freedom and patriotism to suggest this idea. I think we deserve to claim freedom, love of country (and even flying the flag, which as I said I do not even own one to fly). I think Cindy’s friend is correct. We don’t even have to deny anyone else their flag flying. We just need to make it so when people see a flag they know it might be us!

News about We the People Day (and the movement I’m trying to start)! My local newspaper has accepted an OpEd I wrote introducing the idea and inviting people to participate. I’m really happy about that! Looking for more ways to promote the idea!
