Some of the men lost their scholarships because they objected to the abuse. Their lives were completely detailed. It’s hard to watch but important.

Harbors pedophiles. Empowers racists. Excuses rapists. Elects convicted felons. Platformed actual Nazis.

The hypocrisy isn’t just outrageous—it’s vile, repulsive, and beyond words.

There may not even be a word strong enough for this brand of moral rot.

Agreed, and the republican/magat voters are tribal, reflexively vote “R” no matter the qualifications of their candidate. It’s name recognition, mixed with propaganda and racism that prompts the right wingers against voting for anyone democratic and against their own best interests. Difficult to change that baked in racism and distrust of government unless an “R” is running it.

A reporter asked Trump about the death of Virginia Giuffre. Unfortunately its been going on for most of history. It's just in the past people were able to cover it up, some of them even boasted about it. Take a good look at Roman politics, especially Republican Rome when they were still supporting the original Roman virtues, like our American exceptionalism. And Shakespeare wrote plays about it. Again and again people talk about it and again and again it keeps happening, regardless of all the attention paid to the previous crimes committed against the victims of sexual abuse and all the other forms of abuse humanity has been able to invent, like the witch trials , the various forms of slavery and the many different political prosecutions. Indeed it just seems like we get better at it, with the Nazi's against their own German people and now places like Venezuela with the Maduro regime and El Salvador with Bukele , even Syria and Isreal ,each country supporting a competing regime . What about China and the persecutions of their minority groups .

S. A. Linden's avatar

Right. And back then it wasn't hidden, it was culturally accepted as "normal." Now pedophilia is a big secret because our cultures demand that it not be "normal." Sad to say, but pedophilia is a pathology that has the sordid personal history of repeating through families. I don't know what the stats are, but there's a good chance that a pedophile was abused when a child.

Thank you Debbie for keeping your comment focused on the subject matter - “shining a light on the access of sex abuse and predation in our culture.”

Think about that - IN OUR CULTURE!

So many other commenters just spinning off to yell at politicians (R’s in particular) rather than recognizing the truth of sexual abuse, as Mr. DiSabato so aptly puts it, being “a crime as old as time.”

We are in a space right now where this could and should become a movement, not only to hold to account a few high profile perpetrators who’ve been “caught,” but a time to educate the public, young folks in particular, about what is appropriate and not appropriate contact with adults “in charge” or those “with authority.” When something doesn’t “feel right” every person should have the permission to voice that without fear of ridicule, threats, or punishment.

These high profile cases are giving society an opportunity to say never again. To say it stops right here, right now.
