I simply do not understand how even die-hard Republicans can escape the suspicion that Trump has been, and remains, a Russian asset. The domestic policies of the Trump regime are arguably Russian-inspired and increasingly authoritarian. They have repeatedly tried to circumvent statutory and constitutional obstacles to objectives that tend to increase presidential power, dispense with due process, muffle media, punish legal challenge, stifle dissent, enforce censorship, create social division and disrupt the US and world economy. In foreign relations, the Trump regime appears determined to implement Putin's most treasured policy objectives. They are weakening the Atlantic alliance, alienating allies and friendly nations world-wide, weakening our economy and destroying our credibility as an ally, trade partner or good-faith negotiator. It has long been my impression that Republican policies, including those co-opted and implemented by the Clintons, have been nudging us toward 3rd world nationhood, but the Trump regime has put us on a fast-track to becoming a banana republic - a full-fledged impotent kleptocratic oligarchy.
