I know numerous people though who working on ACTUAL ways to change things (Coups d'etat end up benefiting the wealthy and powerful and impoverishing or killing ordinary people). I had lunch with a friend of mine yesterday whose wife had gotten deeply involved in an activist group getting more and more people involved in activism for voting rights and human rights. I see a lot of people, especially women, working behind the scenes to change minds, protect elections and get people to protest AND vote. I know those efforts can be dismissed as not fiery and glamorous enough — maybe partly because they are largely driven by women — but they are far more likely to succeed in making the changes we want to see.

I don’t believe these officers had much choice, though likely it is to them we will have to look for disobedience of unlawful orders. Lower tier officers (USN Ensigns, Lts. JG and Lts and for the others, Lt1, Lt2 and Captain) are implementing boots on the deck or the ground, and the upper echelons, (USN Cpts. and all Adm. ranks and for the rest, all ranks of General) are between the civilian politicians and field officers. Look it up. I am no military expert so that is what I did. The middle tier carries the decision load.
For now, I think it is unfair to blame them, since they likely did not have as much operational knowledge as senior officers, yet were and are charged with troop care. What troubled me (and I meant no offense to you) was that you charged them with acts of willful neglect for choosing not to be mutineers or insubordinates. The reasons are obvious. I do not understand why enlisted men would complain about the education differential, which is what I gather you are suggestion. My comment made one suggestion about why some joined the military - economic necessity.

I think dropping bombs and launching drones and tomahawks on unseen schoolchildren is different for the military, even though not for ICE/CBP. Kent State II? Killing US (their own) grandmothers or kindergarteners? My Lai at home? Their families, friends, neighbors, community leaders? Established brass with integrity walked away was dispatched and replaced by less senior officers who now are more senior officers in search of career bolstering stars and stripes. It is said to be much easier to kill from a distance with a gun than to kill with knife you can feel penetrating. I think at some point the junior NCOs and enlisteds will see too many friends die and question orders. Senior officers will refuse to give illegal orders. I know numerous people though who working on ACTUAL ways to change things (Coups d'etat end up benefiting the wealthy and powerful and impoverishing or killing ordinary people). I had lunch with a friend of mine yesterday whose wife had gotten deeply involved in an activist group getting more and more people involved in activism for voting rights and human rights. I see a lot of people, especially women, working behind the scenes to change minds, protect elections and get people to protest AND vote. I know those efforts can be dismissed as not fiery and glamorous enough — maybe partly because they are largely driven by women — but they are far more likely to succeed in making the changes we want to see.

She ended up going back to school, saying, "I don't know what's wrong with those kids in Iowa and Nebraska. There's nothing there but agriculture majors and sorority girls." Do you know - not do you have an opinion about - what their orders were and the reasons that were provided to them about their mission and purpose? The orders were illegal because not authorized by Congress, but is that a determination for an Admiral or a General?

To clarify, I did not object to you what you said (and I am unaware of established protocols here that preclude advancing personal opinions – if there are, I probably hold the lead with the greatest number of violations), but that you placed the blame on what I perceive to be the mid-level officers in command (not of the troops; those are low end, and not of strategic operations; those are more senior), but the USN Lt. Commanders, Commanders and Cpts, and the USA/USMC/USAF Majors, Lt. Cols and Cols, the ones in between who balance command directives and troop integrity.
I don’t believe these officers had much choice, though likely it is to them we will have to look for disobedience of unlawful orders. Lower tier officers (USN Ensigns, Lts. JG and Lts and for the others, Lt1, Lt2 and Captain) are implementing boots on the deck or the ground, and the upper echelons, (USN Cpts. and all Adm. ranks and for the rest, all ranks of General) are between the civilian politicians and field officers. Look it up. I am no military expert so that is what I did. The middle tier carries the decision load.
For now, I think it is unfair to blame them, since they likely did not have as much operational knowledge as senior officers, yet were and are charged with troop care. What troubled me (and I meant no offense to you) was that you charged them with acts of willful neglect for choosing not to be mutineers or insubordinates. If ordered to fire at US civilians, I think they have been trained what (not) to do. Here, I have to wonder. It have no qualms about you holding an opinion, but its assertion as fact troubled me

I join you in wondering if anyone in or in service of this administration in possession of the powers of command and control (political and/or military) think not just what might happen (something every planner must do) but what is likely to happen (not of them did). I blame only the top tier, knowing that the lt cols and below don’t have a word to say. NEVER the troops.
