At least it's Bezos -- as bad as that is, and NOT the ultra-evil, heinous Rupert Murdoch who single-handedly with his ownership of Fox among other things, got DT elected in 2016. His entire family is fighting over future inheritance of the old geezer's massive estate. Funny and tragic how great wealth affects people. One of my brothers-in-law "converted" my sister to be a Trumper and "forced" her to watch Tucker Carlson on Fox News nightly. My bro-in-law was a greedy but rich Repub. bec. of his own love of money and resentment and hatred of taxation. WTF? You live in a country that provides services to you (and by the way gave you great Social Security and Medicare benefits, and great freeways, national parks, etc.) and you think that all should pay for itself magically? At any rate, I'll be a true BLUE liberal and progressive and Democrat until I leave this planet. The Republicans lost all credibility when they voted Nixon into office and he pulled the criminal stunts that nearly impeached him but he chose to resign (at the urging of his fellow Repubs, who had way more spine and ethics than current day Repubs). It's been all downhill from there with that party and it's transmogrified (great word but the only one that is apt) over the years into MAGA. Unlike many others I see nothing positive in Reagan's presidency, with the POSSIBLE exception of his "Tear down the wall Mr. Gorbachev" comment regarding the wall that separated East and West Berlin. He was still a monster in my opinion and even though he uttered platitudes and was in some eyes, handsome and movie star handsome, he was beholden to big money interests who put him forward as their puppet. And then we got Gingrich and the Heritage Foundation and ultra-right wing judges, etc. It's all been a downhill slide into ultra-conservatism, despite the world moving forward and the population changing here in the U.S. and needs changing too. Now we see the ultimate manifestation of the Repub Party: MAGA president who is in the hip pocket of an ex-KGB operative who wants to see the Russian Empire expand and has no qualms about invading other countries. Pathetic little man. But President Zelenskyy is a great man and he and the Ukrainians have persevered and Putin is losing. Sorry for this absurdly long post.

A very well written and well thought out comment. So glad you called out Reagan and Gingrich. Could have put Palin in there as well. Although I didn't agree with most of his policies, I had a soft spot for John McCain until he(?) chose Palin as VP. There were Repub women he could have chosen that would have been so much better. But then, maybe he would have been elected . . . [? about who really chose Palin, just as I question who really chose Walz, a fatal mistake for Harris.]

Tim Walz is one of the most refreshing candidates so I am sad that you think that choice was a mistake.

Hmm. I thought Walz was a great choice. In my opinion, there is nothing VP Harris could have done that would have changed the outcome - too many forces working against Biden and then Harris. JMO

Refreshing, yes, I agree! But a good political choice? No.

Walz was the greatest VP candidate ever. What’s not to like about an honest, sincere, intelligent, caring , humble man that makes sure students don’t go hungry, accepts & doesn’t judge people different than himself (including you!). He is the finest person I’ve never met. Hope I can one day.

Walz may possess most of those characteristics you list. Honest, though, he is not. He lied about stuff. And no protestations of, "Well, Trump lies more." Yes, Trump does. That doesn't mean Walz didn't lie. So possibly mostly honest, but not completely honest. And humble -- don't know about that. If you're humble, why do you need to lie?

Walz may indeed be a fine individual. Doesn't mean he was the best choice for VP. You disagree with me -- that's OK.

You’re right, it is ok to disagree. I’m not aware that Walz lied. No need to compare, the contrast is obvious. I do apologize for my defensive tone. I don’t want to be hateful or antagonistic, there’s way too much of that going around. We will never achieve unity if we can’t be kind when we agree to disagree. Friends?

I completely agree with you that there's way too much antagonism and hatefulness going around when people should be trying to better understand each other. Friends, no. I don't know you, don't know what kind of person you are, don't know where you stand on issues that are important to me. Friendly, sure.

I admit. I had to look up "transmogrified". Good word by the way.

In my opinion Reagan was the second worst president with his trickle down lie. In the 1980’s I decided never trust Rs because they all lie.

The way Reagan is glorified, even by some on the left, always baffles me.
