I don’t understand how there can be 40%of people polled approve of what’s going on!

WJB Motown's avatar

You must know by now that the GOP is a cult. Fake Christian Nationalism is undermining the basic foundation of American decency. There is a library full of info on this.

BG nurse's avatar

I get that. But 40%!? I guess the hurting has not yet reached its peak.

Bonnie Boyce's avatar

I believe that there are tens tons of millions of Americans who don’t care if they or their children hurt as long as somebody else hurts more

WJB Motown's avatar

When cult followers drank the Kool-Aid...what did they care about? When Manson told family members to go out and murder.....what did they care about??.......It is late in the game here......time for solutions......

Jean Conley's avatar

Great comparison, WJB.

WJB Motown's avatar

Was always top of the class in history.......FACT: It always repeats itself if you do not learn from it........simple as that.

patricia montague's avatar

Exactly. All DEM reps need to get off their asses - EVERYDAY! Get in front of the cameras and speak the truth! Quit hiding. That’s a part of the solution. After all, this is an INFORMATION WAR. So tired of it.

JudyC's avatar

Absolutely correct Bonnie B. Trump supporters never leave until something Trump or his MAGA-DC-GOP do something that hurts them financially. These are people who wld step over a person lying in the street unless it was one of their own family.

Teri Gelini's avatar

Even then there are times they would treat their family the same way!

Jean Conley's avatar

Hate to disagree with you, but I think you're right. However, there has ALWAYS been that group that does. It's probably grown somewhat due to Dump's constant rudeness, treating millions of people like he does, egotistical ways/manners. Unfortunately, many agree with him and his actions/attitude encourages them.

JudyC's avatar

Those who agree with Trump - as I see in my own family - are often people who HID their bigotry, racism, ignorance and intolerance. Trump gave them permission to 'Hate out loud'. Those types who were KKK, hiding behind hoods and crosses now display their hatred unmasked with violence and pride.

WJB Motown's avatar

OMG!! You sound just like Jennifer Welch from IHIPNEWS!!! The girls run the podcast out of Red state hell...Oklahoma. Maga churches on every corner.

They just had Jen Psaki on for a full hour....amazing........

IHIP is always pumping up MTN and all other progressive podcasts.

2'nd printing of "Separation of Church and Hate"........4plus weeks on NYTImes lies happening now......a must read.

No Handle!'s avatar

I was a bit surprised that some supported him until I fully understood they supported him cause they really were as despicable as he. And, some have become more abhorrent as the days pass. They so embody his contemptible traits.

Jean Conley's avatar

Bingo! Usually despicable people support despicable. In dump's case, they are the most despicable ever!

Nancy Young's avatar

Absolutely they think that. Absolutely.

Richard Waddell's avatar

People who have actually given over their thinking faculties no longer hear what they may listen to - they hear only what they want to hear. Any lie they hear from their leader is The Truth. It ceases to involve their 'thought process,' since any digestion of data has been done once and for all time - UNTIL (and this does and can happen, which is does, one person at a time) someone gets =a whiff of something not being right, which is to say, 'doubt.' Recovery from being in a cult is very much like any other addiction, beginning with admission to their being a problem, and seeing that they have the wherewithal to solve that, and that any shame they may feel is (for the sake of their recovering) a side issue.

Getting one's mind back is first in this process. And _lots_ of people did buy into the snake-oil liar's Big Fat Lies for years...

JudyC's avatar

Nailed it Richard. Trump supporters have Cult Brain-Damage condition. It's a condition that appears to incurable with no known treatment.

Richard Waddell's avatar

Cold turkey is the best way, but withdrawl from any addiction takes

courage and support. It is not about intelligence or anything other than

'leaving the cult' or 'quitting drinking/drugs'. There is often lots of baggage, shame being a big one, that can act as an obstacle, but even that is just one more learned habit, and habits can be changed. Holding on to any hate, for any reason, is not a healthy choice, but instead cultivating a simple attitude of forgiveness makes a huge difference. Forgiving of who? Probably just about everyone.

Laurie Blair's avatar

BG nurse, fake "news" lives. there are lies, Damn lies, and Statistics. They love to buy polls. Billionaires can buy the Supreme

Debbie Garcia's avatar

Agree! I have friends who are brainwashed by their church and won't think for themselves!

Charlie's avatar

I think at least 50% of what goes on is people saying "Don't Make Me Think!"

Julia's avatar

Same way people in WWII Germany said they didn't realize what was going on. We've all met people who don't pay attention to the world around them.

Richard Waddell's avatar

In or out of church, many people have never successfully learned to do just that, to simply think for themselves. That's not about being a selfish person or an arrogant bore, but to mull things over until...whenever. Being comfortable in one's skin also includes with one's own thoughts, and to not let them grow into nonstop narratives about nothing, and instead just filling up the brainspace.

Charli29's avatar

You need to understand that these are the base, who are poor, uneducated and voted for him. Some people won’t look at facts and realize they were wrong. These are the people who drank the koolaid and will never admit they are wrong.

Carole Langston's avatar

Right. But don't forget the 1st time 2024 voters. Those who voted for 🍊 after calling veterans losers, making fun of a special needs reporter, after Jan 6th!!!!!, not believing Dictator Day One!!!, getting rid of the undocumented " 20 million criminals" . They still voted. I blame them and the questionable ballot results in some states.

Shannon Donahue's avatar

But did they really or were the total voter counts hacked and votes added where they didn't exist?

Something about the last election is very suspect

Especially given the crowds Harris was drawing.. The Felon's crowds were shrinking and he was paying people to attend!

RoLab's avatar

Yes I truly believe. Elon stole it for him.

Richard Waddell's avatar

He needs to go to prison.

Sue Stjohn's avatar

Trump said he loves the uneducated. To them, Project 2025 is a fairytale book.

Kristie's avatar

Charli29, you are so right!

Roberta Houle's avatar

Charli29. I agree with some of your content, but I don’t believe that being poor is necessarily a factor. There are many reasons for people living in poverty.

To me, that creates more of a stigma that says poor people are uneducated.

I do believe many are uneducated, however, unfortunately I know very smart people who supported him in his first term. Entitled, racist, etc. who believed ‘other people’ would be affected, not them. Who believed in his policies!! 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Sharon's avatar

I live in Oklahoma and I see people who don’t want to help poor people or pay any more taxes or pay welfare. No hand outs. Trump plays right into that. Now they have not seen yet what all that will do to them yet. It has not quite hit them yet. So when it does hit we will see.

Roberta Houle's avatar

Sharon. That is so true, isn’t it?

Shannon Donahue's avatar

I don't necessarily agree completely with your statement. Farmers in rural states, ranchers etc. They aren't stupid. But they believe the Lies FOX entertainment media are so committed to spreading.

I believe media regulations, specifically Truth in all mass media networks or loss of licensing has become necessary. We also need to repeal Citizens United. The propaganda campaign against truth is the biggest problem with our government. We need to 'promote the General Welfare ' of the people as the Constitution deliniates as one of three reasons for establishment of our government. The other two reasons are 'provide for the common defense' and 'secure the blessings of liberty'.

Our government is infringing on our Liberty, and has not done anything to promote the general welfare of the PEOPLE. In actuality by eliminating the healthcare subsidies this regime is willfully HURTING THE PEOPLE.

Roberta Houle's avatar

Shannon. I said many people were uneducated. I have written in another post that farmers are good business people who understand what they need to make their farm sustainable. Younger farmers are going to post secondary school.

I was raised on a farm in a small community in Saskatchewan. I would never suggest that farmers are stupid. My father only went to Grade 8. He was born in 1918 and died on the eve of his 80th birthday, which fell on Remembrance Day. His twin brother served in WW2 and my Dad had to stay home to look after his parents’s farm. But he read the papers every day, listened to the news and was very knowledgeable in politics. It was vitally important in keeping the farm going. Of course people learned from each other as well. I consider that being educated. Because I feel that way, I was so disappointed that the farmers were a large group who voted for trump. I really didn’t understand it.

But you’re right. The media has been instrumental in getting trump elected, they suffocate the the people with every little thing trump. And if you only watch Fox News, then your vision is certainly distorted.

‘The propaganda campaign against truth is the biggest problem with our government.’ Very true.

Sorry this is so long. Hope you have a good day. 🇨🇦💪

Rachel C's avatar

We have all the billionaires and multi millionaires and their families, corporations and so on. It’s not a huge number of people but they probably influence those who admire them. 👹

Roberta Houle's avatar

Rachel. Absolutely.

Cynthia Gregory's avatar

Yes I don't like the "uneducated" constant droning..It's like responding to a comment with 'Libtard etc. ..End of any dialogue.

Charli29's avatar

Going to college and being a successful businessman doesn’t make someone “educated.” They take what they learned in school and mold it to fit the beliefs they grew up with, which are racism, misogyny and hatred of people who are different. The main thing I’ve learned is that a lot of people don’t grow and change. They are happy in their very narrow view of the world. That is a part of what I mean by undereducated. Although I did address the poor. A lot of the people that are being hurt by his policies are poor people. They are his base.

No Handle!'s avatar

And, then there are the pedophiles, fellow criminals well as billionaires unless you already included them in that base.

Charli29's avatar

Pedophiles come from all over and while I didn’t include them in the base, you could say they are part of it too. I was actually married to one, who went to jail. I am eternally grateful we had no children and he was caught in an FBI sting several years after our divorce. I knew he had issues in the bedroom, I just didn’t know how bad they were.

Charli29's avatar

No, I was thinking more about the people who actually voted him into office. The rich ore few, the poor are many and it was the many who voted for him. Not u derstanding who he was and what he will eventually do to them.

Paul Schwartz's avatar

Many of which are going to be losing healthcare and/or jobs. Again, their mantra is "I would rather vote for Russia than liberals".

We Canadians are very fortunate to have free Healthcare. A lot of other countries also have free Healthcare. I've often wondered why a Country as rich as the US never implemented this program. We now have free Dental care

Too much “rugged individualism.” Many think that there is only one pie, and if anyone else gets some, there won’t be any for them. 👹

Roberta Houle's avatar

Well, it’s paid for by our taxes. But it is universal healthcare. Everyone receives the same services. 🇨🇦🇨🇦

Charli29's avatar

I’m moving to Canada, if I lose my healthcare. It is surprising that we don’t have free healthcare, but everytime “universal healthcare,” is suggested, we have Republicans yelling “socialism or communism.” It makes people back off. We are a very messed up country, as you can see. To go after Canada, when we have always been neighbors and partners, is incomprehensible to me. I live in Virginia and Virginia Beach has always had loads of Canadians come for the beaches. Now, the Caribbean gets those tourists and I know our numbers are down. They haven’t been published yet, but I understand FL is feeling the pinch too. He’s hurting our country, in order to break us.

Lee Hierlihy's avatar

As we say in Canada Charli29 Elbows Uo! Incase you don't know own it's a hockey term.

Charli29's avatar

As a formerly rabid hockey fan, I am familiar with the term. However, we are going to have to use more than our elbows to check this guy. He had a lot of nerve, to say he didn’t approve of your deal with China. In my case, while this is just the beginning of our financial decline, I am glad you found another trading partner. Within 6-9 months, the dollar will collapse and we will be in serious trouble. All it would take is for France to call our loans. If China did, that would be even worse. We can’t pay them. Trump offered to use the tariffs to pay down our national development. Instead, he’s increased it by 1.2 trillion. Who has the money from the tariffs? I would imagine it isn’t the US Treasury. While many Canadians are rooting for us, I’m rooting for you. Don’t let the clown bully you.

Lee Hierlihy's avatar

As you can probably see our Prime Minister is making trade agreements with other Countries to offset our previous agreements with the USA. These are bold steps taken by Canada to preserve our national needs. I believe Mark Carney is doing a fantastic job in diverting our need for reliance on the US. Yes this is why we are growing our Military Forces so we become less reliant on the support from US forces. I know we can't do everything in one day but progress is being made.

Sharon's avatar

Absolutely and they are clueless that itis

Matuga's avatar

Many Trump acolytes died from COVID due to cult members believing Trump's lies. Trump and conservative oligarchs exemplify the American Exceptionalism" lie. Cult members have been taught to believe; cult members do not think rationally.

Debbie E's avatar

Agree. However, as a resident of a red state (Florida), while the number of horns blaring in support of our weekly protests seem to have increased, there is still a significant number of people screaming verbal abuses at us from their car windows. One of the largest counties has a racist, bigoted, sheriff and our politicians are as evil and corrupt as they come. Yet, these fools continue to vote them in. They are either in willful denial, or haven't been personally effected. I had hoped a sense of community would have kicked in by now, but we haven't seen that happen yet.

Jean Conley's avatar

Hopefully, they'll wise up before next November. Wait until the Dictator takes away a freedom that they cherish......I'm sure he will.

I agree as far as being a Floridian too. There has been a small amount of pushback on dear governor. I think the latest land purchase without agreement mad congress put of. I doubt that it will be reversed. That money could have made great strides in preserving our natural environment. I put it in the same category as what he and wifey did with the medicaid funds. June Ponte's avatar

I built a life with someone over the last 12 years. When Trump came into power, my partner became a part of the Trump cult and still is; he changed so much that it is so disturbing. I’m in my 70s, and can’t get around because of certain disabilities, so that makes things more difficult.

He cannot take on any ideas except those offered by Fox News. I’ve watched him slowly lose the ability to think for himself. I leave the room when he puts it on, or we will fight. I cannot mention Trump without him getting very upset and defending him. As far as he’s concerned, Trump can do no wrong. He has not admitted to all the more recent horrible things that Trump has been doing in this country and abroad, ICE, medical expenses….The horrible treatment of immigrants, etc.; he will not talk about it or admit that these problems exist, or God forbid I insinuate that Trump is behind them. There is no debate or discussion that can happen between us.

At best, we just do not talk about Trump. This has ruined our relationship. Nothing wrong with tearing down the White House according to him! Trump’s a builder he says.

The only thing that made him shut up was that disgusting video of crap falling on New York City demonstrators and poor Harry S. I handed him my phone with the video ready to play and I said “this is what your president thought was a good idea to post. If he could’ve been honest, he would have said how disgusting and insane it was. I could actually see it in his face, but he could never ever say that.

I’m sharing this with you guys just so you know that the sick and damaging person in the White House, is not only what we all see daily, but what’s happening due to the havoc between couples. I wish there was a way to just get away from him, but I don’t think I’ll be able to do it in this lifetime at this age. I hope I live long enough to see things get back to the way they once were, America restored , without the orange cretin. FDT👹

Jean Conley's avatar

I TOTALLY AGREE with you. I don't get it, either. It looks like, however, looking at the majority of the polls (even relatively conservative ones), that many repbliCRAPS are finally seeing the light.

Clara King's avatar

With polling, one can almost always assume 25% on any issue will be supportive of the worst. So that leaves 15% who potentially might still be swayed if things get bad enough. The fact that he has 70% approval rating with his own Party voters is a really bad sign. It should normally be reading at 85-90%. So he’s in deep trouble. The problem remains is that he holds the reins of power and until he’s physically removed, he and his enablers will continue to wreak havoc.

Jean, I've always been an optimist, even in the face of Trump's blatant attempt to become a dictator, or King for Life. I'm also a licensed California attorney, having been sworn in on 12/1/1981. I believe that John Roberts, the Chief Justice, is appalled by Trump's actions taken this year, and might decide to restrict the decision granting Trump absolute immunity for "official acts." He needs one other Justice to make that decision, most likely Amy Coney Barrett. Let's hope that that happens!

Jean Conley's avatar

John, I need to be like that! Hate to be a pessimist--actually, there's NO excuse for it since things generally turn out on the bright side. Maybe I want to be surprised in a "positive way" when it does? Hope John Roberts can accomplished it. Thanks for your replies!

MsEnfranchised's avatar

In conversations with MAGA on the very red rural Eastern Shore, it's apparent that they are scared and suffering - looking for someone to blame for why their life sucks, and being fed hate constantly. Believing ridiculous propaganda, including one police officer divulging that he's glad he can be openly racist and sexist nowadays. I had to bite my tongue to not correct him. It doesn't make their ignorance right -- but it is certainly a place to start to help them see who the real enemy is (billionaires, corporations, and corrupt government bought by big oil, big pharma, and AlPAC, etc

Stephanie's avatar

ALOT of them want to be bad! Like wtf 😒 and white men DO NOT need an excuse for bad behavior.

MsEnfranchised's avatar

One of them told me how he (as a white male) was the victim of all the DEI policies and that people of color had the same opportunities as he does. Most of us were taught that these things are not true -- and shown the vast differences both historically and currently. I think part of this ignorance is from the whitewashing of history, which we are seeing an increase of (and needs to be corrected and stopped).

Stephanie's avatar

Yeah, their biggest fear is that They might be treated like a minority!! Aren't you the assholes that say that minorities are NOT discriminated against? There's not such thing as Racism or sexistim?!!

It's also the reason Gay men bother them, then They could be raped Too!!

Gator Ness's avatar

A lot of our fellow Americans believe in the replacement theory. They're afraid they may become a minority.

What amazes me is we all saw what he did to immigrant families the first time (that was just one thing) and they voted for this again, including Mexican Americans? I'm afraid to look at people in their faces because they might be a person who co-signed (voted) for all of this again?

I remind myself that many townspeople gathered together to watch and support vigilantes hanging black people. Some packed picnic baskets and brought their kids. (The pics are online.) They would rather condemn a person of color than to actually find the person who committed the crime. Basically, letting the real perpetrator escape punishment.

We have the same people with the same mentality today. People of color bother them to point of wanting to be rid of them apparently by any means necessary.

According to Wikipedia (which defines it as an epithet), it goes back to about the 1940s. Partial excerpt: . . . it has grown in its negative use since the 1940s, in particular by members of the Republican Party—in party platforms, partisan speeches, and press releases—as well as by conservative commentators and third-party politicians.[5][6][7]
