Hello Colleen, we in Germany know that Americans are great, creative, interesting people with broad horizons and courageous thinking.
Yes, the panic. I understand.
What helps me: turn off the news, breathe, go for a walk, pet the dog, meditate, do yoga.
Be happy.
Because they want to strangle joy.
Therefore: joy in your life is the most important thing, protect it.
Look at it all like a film, a nightmare that no crime writer could think up.
All the villains in the film have bodies that get sick, marriages that fall apart, children who become drug addicts, fraud and violence in their political job.
Thank you. What a generous response. It’s hard to find the balance right now. We know that no one is coming to save us, so we’re doing what we can to save our fragile democracy. And figuring out as we go. Thanks again.
I noticed that if I don't watch the news for a few hours, a day, I feel much better. And then there are 20 new sad, worrying topics. I may have missed 5 topics, but that doesn't matter at all.
Yes, nobody can save you, that is your job and you will become stronger because of it.
We can't save you, but we can build up pressure.
The boycotts in Canada are crucial, they will cause the Trump villains unimaginable problems.
Here in Germany, the calls for a boycott are getting louder.
You have to organize it, network it, make it public, encourage people around the world to tell you about the boycott in their country.
There are large pages/groups on Facebook that show how the boycott in Canada is progressing: very impressive!
And if you want to flee: thousands of doors are immediately open for you in Germany :-)
Yesterday here in Meidas, someone in Canada offered you refugee accommodation.
My husband was in Germany in the 80's when he was in the Army. He loved Germany. Thank you for your kind words. Many Americans are so heartbroken, afraid, embarrassed, and angry. But we also have a lot of resolve.
That is humbling. If we can bring him down, I hope trump and his crew are sent to Guantanamo Bay where the terrorists were kept and now he has sent those poor immigrants. Boycott the USA!
Thank you for that advice. I am resisting in the ways that I am able. I am 75. I never thought we would come to this. It breaks my heart. Glory to Ukraine. I hope you all will help them to keep fighting and prevail.
So AnnaMarie, reread what Oliver wrote… switch off the news and do other things to distract yourself and find your joy. That’ll fuel your fighting power when you have joy to defend. Being angry only makes a physical and mental difference to you and probably your family. That’s not helping anyone. Please don’t think I’m scolding you, but, my husband is often on his phone for what seems like 24/7 and I have to try to distract him with walks in the countryside otherwise he’s a right pain in the doodah to live with. Completely obsessed with politics both here in the UK and USA.
I admit we have entered a very dodgy era, and I don’t want to ignore it because it’s definitely important to be informed of the world as it changes. We have to keep a balance. Take care 🕊️🕊️🕊️
I hear you! I do ride my bike, walk, do yoga and Pilates, spend time with friends and family, then, I pick up my phone, see the latest b s from that orange Mussolini and I see red! I often have to put that phone right back down. It really has a negative effect on my good moods. I have always been an easy going happy person. This administration changes that for me every single day and you are right, we have to pace ourselves with it!
So are we. Thank you for discerning that we’re all not corrupt, lying racists.
I’m so sorry. And angry. And scared.

They will personally break down because of it.
Thank you. What a generous response. It’s hard to find the balance right now. We know that no one is coming to save us, so we’re doing what we can to save our fragile democracy. And figuring out as we go. Thanks again.

We all stick together :-)

I love the “look at it like a film” and “protect your joy” statements. Lovely!
Me too! The Angry part is difficult and frustrating!
