SPEAKER 1
Folks, I am here in Los Angeles at one of the protests. This is in the valley of Los Angeles, so not the main part of the city, but a absolutely massive crowd at the No Kings protest. Lots of people here with American flags, lots of signs against Trump, against ICE, people holding copies of the Constitution.
0:19
The vibe here is like one big party, a celebration of democracy, in addition to being a protest of Donald Trump. I know you're going to be able to hear the music. You see people giving away slices of pizza to make sure people are fed. You see people handing out waters to make sure that people aren't thirsty.
0:39
This is truly a community vibe here in Los Angeles, in Woodland Hills. It is great to be here to see this no peace movement firsthand. Like I said, the energy here is electric. I'm going to continue to record from here. We got a lot more on our YouTube channel. So be sure to check it out.

Just Back From the No Kings Protest Near Me

307

By Brett Meiselas

Brett here,

I just got back from the No Kings protest in Woodland Hills, in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles and wanted to give you a quick update because the energy out there is absolutely electric.

This wasn’t just a protest. It was a full-on celebration of democracy. Massive crowd. American flags everywhere. Signs slamming Trump and ICE. People holding up pocket Constitutions. Music pumping. Pizza being passed around. Water handed out freely. The vibe was unshakable joy, solidarity, and defiance.

And this was just one of thousands of protests happening across the country today.

MeidasTouch was everywhere:
— I was out in the Valley.
— Ben was on the ground in Pasadena.
— Contributor Dina Doll was holding it down downtown LA.
— Meidas host Adam Mockler was live streaming in the heart of Chicago.
— And we ran exclusive coverage on the MeidasTouch YouTube channel from Philadelphia.

All of it powered by our incredible Meidas Mighty community showing up from coast to coast.

Here are some photos I took:

And here are some photos of the Meidas Mighty out in force:

Meanwhile… Trump’s big “birthday military parade” in D.C.? An absolute embarrassment. Lots of tanks, a whole lot of wasted taxpayer money, and practically nobody showed up. Sources tell us D.C. feels emptier than a normal weekday. Even the No Kings protests in small towns were larger than his pathetic parade. It’s humiliating for him—and he knows it. I mean, take a look at this photo from his big day:

Photo from Trump’s pathetic birthday parade

Trump tried to make this his coronation. Instead, it’s turned into another showing of his weakness.

Millions and millions of Americans are in the streets today. And I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this movement. To every single person protesting, whether in a packed city square or from your phone by amplifying the truth, thank you. Let’s keep showing up. Let’s keep speaking out. And let’s remind the world: We’re the majority. And we won’t be silenced.

Stay tuned for more coverage on all of the MeidasTouch platforms. Remember to add the MeidasTouch Podcast on Apple Podcasts and Spotify for more updates. And stay loud. Thank you for your support of this pro-democracy movement. Subscribe today if you haven’t yet and let’s keep growing this movement.

Trump called Putin on the occasion. Also probably wished Putin happy Russia Day.

To paraphrase Don Bacon, Russia is Mexico with nuclear weapons but Trump has elevated them to the status of the Soviet Union.

Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff had been set to travel on Sunday to Oman for a sixth round of talks with Iranian officials aimed at curbing Tehran’s nuclear program — a meeting that was set before Israel launched strikes on Friday. But Oman’s foreign minister, Badr al-Busaidi, said on Saturday that the meeting would not take place as planned.

Trump said Putin also wished him “a Happy Birthday.”

I disagree that Russia is Mexico. No offense to Mexico. My ancestors came to the USA from Eastern Europe, these people have a long history of struggle and war. Russia has always been the Bully on the block but even Russia itself is a multi ethnic country with people with many different opinions. The actual Western border of Russia has changed dramatically over time and over many conflicts. People on the Russian border often do not know exactly what nation they are a part of at any specific time. The leaders of Russia have held it together by military strength because that is the only thing that will hold this multi ethnic, multi cultural nation together. I DO not agree with holding a country together by military force and lack of free will, but that is how the leaders of Russia do it and this will not be changed if Putin is replaced as leader by someone else.

What Bacon, a retired general means, the GNP and the capacity to wage war are about the same, yet Trump elevated Russia to our status, leader of the free world.. .

Russia is NOT MEXICO, Russia can destroy the world. Mexico cannot do this, not yet anyway. Also the Russian population is fairly education compared to other nations including Mexico. Most people in Russia are educated and had to graduate from a formal school program. Russia is NOT a third world country like Mexico. Some people say that Russia is a Second World country and I will go with that statement, it is NOT a third world country.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong and Bacon is right.

THAT IS YOUR OPINION. You gave me some kind of chart you got from the internet which is a bunch of statistics that may or may not be true as there is no information on how the conclusions in said chart were determined. It could all be made up for all I know. Notwithstanding this Mexico, has a wider diversity of food available as many things can grow there, and many parts of Russia are too cold to grow anything useful outside. The Mexican people have better options with respect to food choices, I have to admit that.

FYI: it's not because something can be found on the internet that it's false. You have to PROVE that it's false.

And yes, statistics are the only way to obtain objective info about entire countries. Personal, subjective opinions are worthless for topics like these.

Just listen to the marches by Sousa, or some of the patriotic anthems from the 1960s in this country. Music is an incredibly powerful medium. Men march off to war with "Onward, Christian Soldiers," or "The Marine Hymn" ringing in their ears.

My father fought in North Africa in WWII in a mixed US/UK force, and he told me that going into battle to the sound of bagpipes was just incredible. He said the hair on the back of his neck rose -- and they were on the same side!!

My dad was in the Highland Light Infantry in that very campaign, and probably heard the skirl of the same bagpipes as your father. They may have even shared cigarettes. Small world !

Thanks for this. It brought a smile to my face. My father told me about his interactions with UK troops. He respected them greatly. I owe a great deal of my own cultural awareness to him sharing his interactions with Commonwealth troops. Truly a small world :-).

Songs can also teach us a lot about our history -- I've learned plenty about slavery times, the Civil Rights Movement, and the labor movement from songs. And strange but true (or maybe not so strange), many of the songs I learned as a young person active in student politics and the antiwar movement sound pretty current today.

Many of us older boomers miss the unifying, quieting, hope-filling nature of 60s protest music. I think so often how I would love for the Xs, milennials, and Zs we love and learn from now to experience the rising of “we Shall Overcome” from the crowds we are in today. Or to hear Dylan, Baez, or Ochs singing exactly what we were all feeling. Or-god!- to have heard Jimi feedback the National anthem today! “This Land is your land, this Land is my land” is the war song we need again. Again. And always - against the tyrants who are stealing America from our next generations.

True! Music was a powerful force against Apartheid in South Africa. There's a great documentary on that subject, "Amandla!" Here's the trailer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENEiACqtHq4

Like your song; would like to hear it too. I'd like to see singing be more a part of the marches, with drums and percussion keeping time and adding energy. One song I really want to hear is Bob Marley's "Get Up, stand up, stand up for your rights. Get up, stand up, don't give up the fight."

I grew up in Claremont in 50’s to 70’s and loved living there! Have been afraid the college town had lost its way…..”The Claremont Institute”, john eastman and all that. SO , am glad to hear that Claremont still has its soul! ( our old home was at 207 W. 6th St. I do miss it.) On my way to NO KINGS DAY rally in Honolulu!!

We were there in Honolulu as well. My initial reaction is that the crowd seemed to be about twice as large as the 19 April "Hands Off" protest, and a lot more diverse. There was a larger police presence as well, but the crowd was well-behaved, staying off the roadway and leaving room for pedestrian traffic. That actually made moving from one part of the demonstration to another much easier for the participants, as well as people who were just trying to catch The Bus.

I attended a protest in Fort Wayne Indiana. One of the organizers said there were about 5000 people there today. That’s huge for our bright red state. Mostly I was struck by the number of younger people there. And the Hispanics. I’m grateful they were there. As a boomer, I appreciate them. This is their world and they need to shape it.

I attended by first protest today. In my hometown (maga-light) my sister and I joined with 123 other people to show we do not have kings in this country. It was uplifting and joyful. Had a few birds flipped at us and 1 person on the other side of the street of the park where we were with a Trump Country sign and dressed as Chewbacca from Star Wars. Pity whoever it was failed to grasp the actual meaning of the film. A lot of cars honked encouragement and we shouted encouragement back to them. 4 big diesel trucks blew black smoke at us and we were pleased to see law enforcement go after them. The signs were wonderful and covered everything that we needed to say about democracy, all issues that are currently being experienced by those being targeted by this vile regime and how we need to go forward to maintain this country as the great country it needs to be.

I went to the one in NYC, Bryant park. We were told to gather on 41st street and turn right onto 5th ave but I started on 5th Avenue between 42 and 41. Supposed to start downtown at 2:00 but the crowd of people on 41st trying to to merge onto 5th was so massive, we didn’t move forward a step until 2:40 and even then, my group and I only made progress by cheating and walking up onto the sidewalk. Thousands and thousands of people. Lots of singing, lots of chanting, some great signs. Very peaceful. Oh, and FYI, It was raining.

Beware the rulers who crave the thunder of marching feet, the spectacle of might arrayed before the cowed masses. From Stalin’s Red Square to Hitler’s torchlit rallies, from Kim’s grim parades to Putin’s staged triumphs—the hunger for adoration is the same. And now, the shadow falls upon the land of the free. The people slumber, unaware of how fragile their liberty has become. A single spark—a crisis seized, a fear unleashed—and the strongman will rise. Martial law shall unfurl like a black banner. Congress will be silenced, the courts brushed aside like withered branches. And when the people resist, brother shall turn against brother, for the tyrant thrives in the chaos of civil strife. The hour is late. The parade ground awaits. Will you march, or will you kneel? The choice comes sooner than you think.

It's destruction of our economy, causing widespread losses of personal savings, pensions, social security, and our ability to make a living, through psudo-economic policies that make no sense and have led to hyper inflation and the devaluation of the US dollar.

Advocation of Trump's own legal accountability to the courts, and our own choices for local government.

We are here,

No Kings Day Saturday June 14th 2025

Find a protest near you:

https://www.nokings.org

KEEP PROTESTS PEACEFULL

Use signage and messaging to make your numbers visible.

- stop H.R.1 or the Big Beautiful Bill

- demand the constitution be reveered and not perverted

- reinstate respect for the rule of law

- call for an end to his divisiveness

The best way to protest against the military parade is not to be in Washington DC - so that only crickets are there.

All of this will show the courts and our leaders the destruction of our society by Trump is unwarranted, and contrary to the values America was founded on. Show there is no justifiable reason for it.

Don't kill anyone.

I was a Marshall for Cincinnati’s No Kings protest. The event was well organized and successful because of the coordination with the City of Cincinnati and the police. When we started some of us were guessing 5,000 but I bet it was over 7,000. They just kept coming along the route!!! All of Cincinnati’s demographics were there. Younger, older, all races, all orientations -it helped me feel reaffirmed.

It is really joyful to see so many happy, informed people intent on doing what it takes to preserve the USA at it's best - proof that MAGA is an aberration that shall not last. Building on hate is building on quicksand - it soon disappears - and few even care. Hitler's "Thousand Year Reich" lasted 12 horrible years before many of it's minions were sentenced to death in the gas chamber (Krupp Wird Im Gas Kammer!) Trump patterns himself after Hitler, who commited suicide rather than let the Soviets capture him and treat him like he treated millions of humans. Trump's hero. Trump isst scheisse. 💩💩

Sorry for the shaky old man voice and hands, but what a damn inspiring day in Kansas City, just one of many gatherings around the metro area! This old broken down dog got a big shot of hope, especially from the young people who I think realize that THEY will be the bridge to start this nation anew. Seriously. They, more than anyone, KNOW that governance, for all practical purposes, is DEAD in America at the federal level and in many, many states (certainly in Missouri!) I think they are rising to meet this historic change in the American story. I have never been prouder of my city than today. Spent several hours on Ocean Avenue and Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, embarrassed home of Stephen Miller, holding "We are All Immigrants" and "No Kings" sign. Lots of positive reinforcement. Went to Kreative for smoothie and they wouldn't let me pay. Challenges though: one thoughtful about a limited immigration policy (but apparently based on the assumption that we liberals want open borders - wonder what cable channel pushes that myth?) and the other brimming with attitude: "Does it bother you that we spend $12B on MediCal for Illegals?" The sign is meant for those still sleeping on their voting hands, not the thoughtful MAGA'ts nor the committed Spencer Darwinian racists. It's a beginning, maybe. Doesn't move the needle noticeably, but maybe it is the first pebble of an avalanche. Starts small, then gets overwhelming. One can hope.

We need to use the momentum of No Kings Day to force a change in administration or at the least tell republican congress to stop being complicit. More importantly, Democratic leaders and Independent Media need to work together to PLAN now for upcoming elections instead of constantly siezing headlines and be reactive. DJT took 4 years to plan this coup and we are not doing anything to prepare. Have we not learned our lesson? Independent media please listen and build upon what you hear from us. I work the polls, am a 68 year old activist and was shocked we had over 1000 people show up in our DEEP RED district. It's clear even republicans are sick of him.

📣 A Message to My Fellow Grandparents: The Escalation We Cannot Ignore

My dear friends and fellow guardians of memory and wisdom,

What happened to U.S. Senator Alex Padilla — a sitting senator, forcibly detained and dragged by Department of Homeland Security agents — should send a chill through the heart of every American who remembers our nation’s history and who understands how democracy begins to unravel.

This is not an isolated moment. This is part of a pattern. We’ve watched as:

ICE raids increased under orders from Trump adviser Stephen Miller, targeting minority neighborhoods and families at dawn.

Peaceful protestors were gassed and beaten, journalists detained, and federal agents in unmarked vehicles abducted citizens from the streets.

And now, a U.S. Senator, simply for participating in a peaceful protest for immigrant dignity, is violently subdued on camera — while identifying himself.

This is not law enforcement. This is intimidation.

This is not security. This is state-sponsored suppression.

And yes, it echoes the early tactics of fascist regimes:

Mussolini began by using paramilitary squads to silence critics.

Hitler used legal structures and state violence to criminalize dissent, beginning with raids, surveillance, and arrests — before the machinery of full authoritarianism took over.

In both cases, people were told it was for “order,” for “security,” for “the good of the nation.” Sound familiar?

We cannot let our children and grandchildren grow up in a country where silencing elected officials becomes a precedent, not an outrage.

💥 This is the trajectory of tyranny.

🛑 What Can We Do?

Speak truth at family dinners, in church halls, and over coffee with friends.

Call it what it is: unconstitutional, un-American, and dangerous.

Educate our families on historical patterns — because those who forget are doomed to repeat them.

Contact your representatives and demand accountability from DHS and Homeland Security Secretary Noem.

Support independent media that reports the truth, not sanitized talking points.

Show our grandchildren that standing up is not just our right — it’s our legacy.

We are the keepers of stories — of Selma, of Normandy, of the Freedom Riders.

We’ve seen this before, and we must say now, together:

Not on our watch. Not in our name.

🇺🇸 With love, fire, and peaceful courage,

Clarissa Sr., an American Grandma

For democracy. For justice. For family.

Yes watching from Canada it was a delight. Massive peaceful crowds chanting for democracy and personal freedoms. No violence no criminal activity . WOW. I also watched a bit of the military parade. bits and pieces. I noticed Pete , Donald and Melania looked heart broken. It was a joy. Is it true Donald order the military not to send any fat soldiers and they must also be loyal to him?? He thinks the military is his and his alone. Keep the heat on these despots. God Speed.

This is truly a community vibe here in Los Angeles, in Woodland Hills. It is great to be here to see this no peace movement firsthand. Like I said, the energy here is electric. I'm going to continue to record from here. We got a lot more on our YouTube channel. So be sure to check it out.
