The Labor Department plays with the employment numbers and the Trump administration plays the most. Bessent is not even a good liar. We’ve tried the trickle down theory in every Republican administration since Reagan and it has never worked. The question is how devastating the economic turndown will get-stagflation or recession.

Oh you’re going to run past both stagflation and recession and right into a massive depression, which will push the rest of the planet into a recession unless we all manage to disengage with the USA in as many fields as possible, most especially in finance.

“Trickle Down” = Rich get richer and poor get poorer. Don’t let the title fool you. It has nothing to do with the theory.

And they call themselves “Christians” as they defy and defile every teaching of their alleged spiritual leader. As a retired social worker, my heart weeps daily for all who do and will suffer because of their lack of empathy, conscience, or compassion.

Yes! I was also thinking Raskin, Schiff, Pelosi, Biden, Harris, Parnas, but I wanted to focus on Republicans who stand up against pressure, intimidation, and threats from their own party. I’d be very pleased of you want to restack with a note adding more names…GOP, Dems, the wonderful writers and journalists here and elsewhere who refuse to cower in fear, all those who defended the Capitol and later testified against the Felon and his minions. Let’s start something…our heroes should be celebrated.

I don’t know what any of that means. All I know is I’m nearly 73 years old, my wife and I are both ill and can’t work, my meager Social Security and some paltry royalty payment every few months are getting smaller, and if we lose our Medicaid and SNAP benefits and can’t get on a Section 8 housing role in September we will be made homeless. As The Rolling Stones sang, “What a drag it is getting old.” Being poor is also a drag, a terminal one now.

Someone pointed out that MAGAs are committing what Engels, in 1845,

called Social Murder

"to describe deaths resulting from social, political, or economic oppression rather than direct violence. He argued that such deaths were a consequence of exploitation under capitalism, where the ruling class allows conditions that lead to premature death among the working class." per Wikipedia.

Rs not only allow it, they actively promote it!

Yes. Project 2025 is their playbook, modeled after Hitler’s playbook. Social murder is an apt description.

They are, actually. Look at Texas, for instance. If NOAA had not been cut of valuable people delivering valuable information about this storm, many lives would have been saved. So what does Cancun Cruz do? Sends thoughts and prayers that don’t do shit! What does Abbott do? Absolutely nothing. Who do they blame? Biden! They are useless and pathetic beings.

Abbott and Cruz were both out of the country when the flood happened and didn’t rush back. They don’t care a whit about their constituents as they take part in P2025.

Do these population numbers take out people who are (voluntarily) retired...people over 65-70 who have (thankfully for them) saved enough to retire and won't be looking for work? Then again, do we have to start tracking people who retired with one plan and now have to adjust to this economy? AND--this administration is now officially cooking the books, let's be clear on that. Need to keep looking at other sources for real data.

I keep wondering when they'll move to privatize it; can't wait to see what a wonderful idea that is....... I think it will tank, and fairly soon, with some billionaire walking off with a fatter bank acct.

Speaking of billionaires...... it is possible that SOME are actually responsible, concerned citizens like Warren Buffett? Remember his saying, on more than one occasion, that they all should be taxed appropriately?? Why aren't we hearing from those people??

Thanks for laying the blame on Project 2025. It's discouraging to hear Trump get all the blame (and hence attention) for the atrocities in the BBB when he may not even understand much of what's at stake, and the authors of Project 2025 are actually to blame. Plus, the public hates Project 2025, so by pointing out who's at fault, we may be able to gain more support for the resistance.

MM Harris's avatar

Yes. I don't think trump has any real concern re P2025; he was just willing to implement it because it was an already-organized blueprint for throwing all federal govt power in the executive's hands (his biggest fantasy) and giving him a way to hang onto the presidency long enough to keep him out of prison, period. Super easy to just automatically sign every EO presented then run off to play golf.

I have ceased believing ANY figures developed by Trump's Department of Labor, nor the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is Winston in 1984 all over again, writing lies to match the lies of Big Brother. We are unlikely to get any fact-based numbers from the DOL for the next 3.5 years.

Yes, true all of that. Many of us on this substack are Boomers. We have lived through the cycle of boom and bust. We didn't need any chart to tell us what is coming down the road for our country, we can see the changes with trump and can easily project the hard times ahead. The charts are merely validation of that which with our experiences we already know.

The most recent jobs report, released on July 3rd, indicated that the unemployment rate for Black or African American individuals rose to 6.8% in June, up from 6.0% in May. This increase is noteworthy, as it marks the highest level since January 2022. This is from Google. I read it on a Substack originally but I don’t recall which one.
