There are bad economists, there are delusional economists, and then there is Kevin Hassett, the man who somehow fails upward, smirks through catastrophe, and still manages to be trotted out as if he has a shred of credibility left after a career that reads like a cautionary tale in financial mysticism.
This is the guy who co-wrote Dow 36,000, the book so catastrophically wrong it should come with a warning label.
When the dot-com bubble burst, he didn’t retreat.
He doubled down.
He urged people to buy more.
If your financial advisor did that, you’d sue them.
If your friend did that, you’d stage an intervention.
But Hassett? No consequences.
He gets promoted.
He floats around Washington like a helium balloon someone forgot to tie down, always upbeat, always confident, always disastrously wrong.
After a career like this, it reads like the occult science of being confidently, smirkingly wrong.
