I had to jump on with Dr. Vin Gupta for an emergency episode of Meidas Health because what we just witnessed this week should terrify every parent, every doctor, and every American who cares about the future of our health care system. Trump and his regime, in cahoots with RFK Jr.’s crew of anti-vax conspiracists, are actively dismantling the very institutions that protect our children from preventable diseases.
The so-called Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, once a respected, science-driven body, has been hijacked. They’ve replaced doctors and scientists with quacks from the bowels of conspiracy podcast world. Instead of rigorous, peer-reviewed science guiding decisions, we’re seeing chaos, confusion, and dangerous lies infect the very recommendations that shape what vaccines our kids can access.
Think about that. When I take my daughter to the pediatrician, when my brother Brett takes his newborn, we now have to worry that the doctor’s guidance is being warped by Trump’s anti-science stooges, or that vaccines our kids need are now more difficult to obtain. These decisions aren’t abstract. They determine whether kids get measles, mumps, rubella, or COVID protection, and whether physicians feel pressured not to prescribe life-saving vaccines.
This sham committee voted to restrict MMRV vaccines, then backtracked when they realized they didn’t even understand their own votes. They’re adding needless hurdles to getting COVID vaccines, confusing patients and overburdening doctors. It’s not about helping families. It’s about sowing distrust and dismantling trust in medicine.
And it doesn’t stop there. Trump just gutted the H-1B visa process, making it nearly impossible for international medical residents, who make up 30% of the workforce in critical hospitals, to come here. That’s not just cruel and stupid, it’s suicidal for a country with an aging population and skyrocketing demand for medical care. The irony? Red states, which rely most on these doctors, will be hit hardest.
This is yet another example of the dangers of authoritarianism. Trump wants to replace science with loyalty tests and propaganda. He wants to be the “I alone can fix it” guy, while gutting the very infrastructure that keeps Americans safe from outbreaks. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to predict the outline. Get ready for more confusion, fewer doctors, weaker protections, and preventable suffering.
