On the discussion about why people voted against their interests - in my family I have two adult sons who I think both voted for Trump and when we were discussing the candidates, they said they’re not listening to Fox News, but they are clearly listening right leaning podcasts and spouting off things like, Kamala can’t string a sentence together and we don’t know what she stands for. We don’t like her at all so therefore there’s not a good choice. I think there’s a lot of things that contributed to the election results but the disinformation and the right wing messaging pounding away at one thing over and over again was huge to overcome for the Democrats. The transgender sports issue was also huge for my sons. So depressing and disappointing.

I am so sorry about your sons. And even sorrier that so many Americans simply cannot think. Did he ever watch a Harris rally and compare it to a trump rally???? Did he ever consider how many legitimate mental health care professionals were willing to put their name to saying trump is showing major signs of mental decline compared to how many said that about Harris? You did not have to listen to any particular news source in the election all you had to do was take the initiative to view the rallies each candidate had...both were very honest about what they would do although it was very hard to follow much of what trump said. I have read that there have been a few posts on social media where people have asked if they can take their vote back....if that is true that anyone posted that, well, that about says all we need to know about the voters in America. I have a nephew who is transgender and one of the best doctors in his field. I hope your sons will be sure to ask before they get life saving surgery is the surgeon is a transgender, and then pick a less qualified one if he or she is, or will they be hypocrites and say transgender is fine for saving my life but not sports. I can feel a little for your disappointment as I lost my best friend to trump several years ago and there has been no one to replace her and it gets lonely.

The interesting part about the transgender issue is that my sons are not opposed to or have any ill will towards transgender people. What they are opposed to is the whole sports thing with boys playing girls sports and boys in girls bathrooms. my older son is not a low information voter and he’s a really good debater so it’s hard to have these conversations. I’m a Democrat through and through and at least one of my kids is conservative and that’s hard in general. I don’t wanna lose access to my grandchildren I have a great relationship with them and so I try to keep my mouth shut and not get too much into politics but inevitably we do end up there and it’s never pretty.

I cannot imagine the difficulty of your situation. Sadly chances are unless one of your sons has a trans gender kid who wants to play sports they will never understand, and even then they may just disown the child which would be so very sad, but is happening all over the US. I hope you have a good support group to lean on, other folks that are experiencing what you are....often times that really can help.

I can appreciate your dismay. My grandson has broken off contact with me over my assertion that any Veteran who supports Trump has abandoned their oath to "support and defend" the Constitution. He demanded an apology and I said no. He said he wants no further contact with me. I told him it was his choice. My family is filled with career military Veterans of every conflict from WW1 through Afghanistan. I cannot accept draft dodger trump's assertion that they were all "sucker's and losers" much less, his total disregard of our Constitutuon.

I voted straight Democratic ticket, as I always do, and contributed to the Harris/Walz campaign on a weekly basis. I also wrote and paid the postage for campaign postcards through Daily Kos. I will continue to work to elect Democratic candidates to all levels of government.

But I am also a gender critical feminist, and it frustrates me that Democrats have embraced the most extreme aspects of the trans rights movement without really examining what that agenda means for women and girls in sports and in public spaces previously segregated in the basis of biological sex.

It also angers me that liberal Dems have chosen to respond to our concerns by calling us ignorant bigots who are tools of the white nationalist patriarchy. As feminists, we are hardly that, but we've been forced into an uncomfortable alliance with the right because the left has made it plain we are not welcome. This unquestioning embrace of the "transwomen are women" and all its consequences for women is definitely one of the reasons Harris lost.
