To me, it’s not just having a felony, it’s the circumstances and the rehabilitation. Cohen got sucked into the Trump orbit (which I don’t understand, but others have pointed out as well). He skis finally said ‘no’ and has spent a lot of time and efforts to make amends. Trump’s felonies are not only worse, he has NO regrets and has not wished to be better. That makes a big difference to me.

Mr.Cohen may be a convicted felon, but he has paid his debt to society. I am fairly certain he has not forgotten that fact. At some point, it is simply bad manners to continue to remind the repentant of their transgressions.

Claudia's avatar

Yes, he is a convicted felon. But he’s paid his debt to society and now deserves a second chance.

Also, one point re being opportunistic, due to his criminal record his options are severely limited eg he cannot work as a lawyer anymore. Yet, he still has a family to feed and bills to pay. He needs to make money somehow.

Hence he’s written books, makes podcasts and so on. If you don’t like it, don’t buy his books, don’t listen to his podcasts and …. If he runs, don’t vote for him, it’s a free choice.

True. The choice is pretty clear though. He got more time, for less, than any J 6er. And the majority in trumps orbit right now, are way worse

It seemed like a PR move for him even though they acted like they weren’t expecting him to list his history of credentials and launch into his plan to run for election. If Trump had pardoned him and patted his head with approval, he’d still be screwing the American people. Because Cohen finally saw through the facade that Trump is a user and abuser of people. Trump is a man with no scruples, no integrity, no ethics, no compassion, no faith, untrustworthy, and a serial liar - a hollow shell in a blue suit. Cohen was not a saint. But, he realized that his association with Trump was hurting his family and friends and not doing him any good, either. for the sake of his children's future, he became a State witness against Trump, served his time in prison, and is now free to state his opinions.

Try reading his first book and you'll find out the reason he didn't remain loyal to Trump before you make all your judgements. One of the reasons for the book is his ability to draw an income was destroyed after he made that payment for trump and went to prison. He has a family to support. He is a convicted felon because he was following the orders of the president. Why wouldn't he want people to buy his books? Like you said, (thanks to the LIAR-IN-CHIEF) he is a convicted felon. As such he doesn't have a bar license anymore, which was what he had spent his life working on. So, you'd rather him not make a living?

He has always been a democrat and he has some very good ideas about how to move the country forward.
