Raising tariffs on another country almost always invites retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. The latter tend to be directed at politically sensitive American exports. Federal Reserve research shows that the tariffs have cost about 75,000 manufacturing jobs while creating only about 1,000 jobs in the steel industry—not including the effects of the retaliatory tariffs described above. Higher steel prices added an average of $250 to the price of new cars, and larger trucks—the vehicle of choice in rural America—were hit even more dramatically. Trade is generally a win-win for both participants. Tariffs are a lose-lose-lose game, with the tariff raiser losing affordable goods, the tariff target losing exports, and the tariff raiser losing again from retaliatory tariffs. I have tried, with no success, to have some sympathy for anyone who voted for trump and is now in fiscal peril. I cannot, truly cannot, understand why anyone would have voted for this lying, grifting president who lies and lies and says whatever will get him votes. He doesn't give a fig for any of his citizens, unless they are very wealthy and can contribute to all his hare-brained projects.He has no concept of caring for anyone-it is totally outside his comprehension, and why they would have a problem understanding that after his first campaign-let alone his first presidency-is unimaginable!!
Does anyone think Trump has ever gone grocery shopping or visited Costco, Sam's Club or a big box store? Has he ever cooked a meal for himself, let alone for his family. I seriously doubt that he has done any of these things. He has no idea how the majority of citizens live, day to day!
