Trump’s AI Distractions as Americans Suffer
Let’s start with how Trump started his day. Posting AI images of Robert De Niro holding up a sign saying he’s finally come around on Trump. Attacking Canada’s currency, calling the exchange rate unacceptable. Meanwhile, his own Truth Social website continues to run scam ads for a fake Trump “$1,000 bill” that people can supposedly win if they click a link and pay up first. In the real world, Americans are dealing with record gas and diesel prices heading into Labor Day. That’s probably one of the many reasons Trump’s approval rating among independents has fallen to just 24%, per a new NBC News poll this morning. All the corruption’s not helping, either.
Witkoff and Kushner Go to Kyiv
Witkoff and Kushner finally made it to Kyiv, where they met with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy shortly after their trip to Moscow. While they were there, Bloomberg reported that Moscow isn’t looking for a compromise peace deal at all, despite all of Witkoff and Kushner’s groveling to Putin yesterday. Kremlin sources say Putin wants an agreement that hands them most of eastern Ukraine, and they are feeling more aggressive now after Trump cut off interceptor licenses for Ukraine. And about that groveling: yesterday, Witkoff told Putin directly that when he and Kushner retire, their fond memories with Putin will be right at the top.
While this is all going on, Trump’s been golfing at Bedminster with Fox’s Bret Baier.
The Algae Always Comes Back
Storms hit DC and knocked over barriers protecting the Reflecting Pool, turning the place into what looks like an open sewer. It still looks like a mess days later. And over in Thailand, workers were seen blasting algae off the USS Abraham Lincoln, which finally made a port call after its extended deployment in which service members were stuck in dire conditions. No matter how often Trump tries to hide his failures, the algae always keeps coming back…
“Small Potatoes”
Trump now keeps referring to the Iran War as “small potatoes,” despite the fact that at least 18 American service members lost their lives. In the past day, CENTCOM struck Iranian tankers in the Strait, and Iran struck several vessels back. Iran is now signaling further escalation, saying they’ll go after aircraft carriers and destroyers next. Trump is stuck in an escalation trap of his own making.
The Numbers Don’t Add Up
Energy Secretary Chris Wright was on TV earlier insisting the Trump regime isn’t lying about the oil supply, and claimed that about 9M barrels a day are moving through the Strait. Hm. That’s interesting. Because if you remember, we reported just a couple days ago that Trump claimed 18M barrels were moving through the Strait each day. Kpler, the firm that actually tracks shipping through the Strait, recorded only 5 confirmed crossings on August 31st.
Scott Bessent went back on TV to make yet another big prediction. He told Fox he expects oil to drop $40-$50 a barrel. We’ll add that to our Scott Bessent lie/bad prediction tracker. We’ve been keeping receipts:
Billions for Them, Nothing for You
The WSJ reported that Commerce Secretary Lutnick pulled in over $250M in 2025. Trump himself made at least $2.2B, likely closer to $6B by many estimates. We’ve never seen people in public office cash in like this before. The contrast between how well they are doing and how much Americans are struggling with record-high diesel and gas prices is truly stunning. But cool golden ballroom I guess.
Trump Goes Back to SCOTUS on Mail-In Ballots
The Trump regime went back to the Supreme Court today, again asking the justices to let a new USPS mail-in ballot rule take effect prior to the midterm elections. On Friday, U.S. District Judge Talwani issued a preliminary injunction blocking the plan indefinitely. This is what Trump is now appealing. The rule would require state/local officials to upload mail-in voter lists to a federal portal and use tracking barcodes on ballot envelopes. If a ballot doesn’t match Trump’s federal database, the federal government could toss the entire batch, per Trump’s order. Meanwhile, some states have already sent out mail ballots. A coalition of 23 Democratic-led states and voting rights groups are fighting back against Trump’s rule. Now, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson (who handles emergency appeals from the 1st Circuit) has ordered states and voting groups to respond to Trump’s new filing by Wednesday.
Germany’s Far Right Rises…
Germany’s far-right AfD party came out on top in Sunday’s state election in Saxony-Anhalt, per exit polls. As of now, however, it remains unclear it has the numbers to actually form a government. AfD took around 44.5% of the vote, ahead of Chancellor Merz’s conservatives who got just 18.5%. The center-left SPD and Greens both cleared the threshold to enter parliament. Turnout for the elections was extremely high at about 75%.
