First one was a narrow charge on an issue most people could not relate to as being important in their lives, and close enough to an election that the Republican senators could avoid a conviction without much effect, after all, 'Trump learned his lesson' right? After Trump then refused to accept the results of the election and staged a (failed) coup, they tried to weasel out on their responsibility with a made up technicality, on the justification that he would still be prosecutable and Trump was politically done...
This time charge him with everything, ignore any artificial legalistic excuses why any given charge may not apply, include them all, We are likely talking close to a hundred, at least. There are ten Obstruction charges from the Mueller report alone. Lots of Bribery charges, lots of abuse of power by not following the laws congress passed (Yes, we IGNORE SCOTUS rulings that are clearly enabling illegality. Congress can do that.). There will be the enforcement of the 14th amendment, Section 3 (SCOTUS never ruled on it), and the evaluation of his advancing cognitive degradation (based on guidelines in the 25th amendment). Lots of abuses of his power to intimidate and coerce companies paying him money. If we charged one or three charges, Trump would dismiss them as trivial and wrong, but when the numbers are large and the pattern clear, including Jan 6, and his pardoning of them and then firing of those that had prosecuted them...
Yes, of course Trump will repeat the classics, which is why we need to gather all these charges, with evidence, of ALL his 'wrongness' far in advance, refine them, dismantle every argument, make it clear to the nation, and then with a majority in the Senate, shift the rules so that Republican Senators can vote their conscience rather than their fear by using secret ballots for the conviction, and make it so that he is impeached if the 2/3 majority each vote for at least 'conviction' on even just one charge, indicating the understanding he is not fit to hold office any more. Different Senators may have different issues they find more persuasive. A 2/3 conviction on any given charge could allow prosecution in court on that charge, per the SCOTUS ruling. Yes, that and many SCOTUS rulings will need to be corrected, but that is for after we have a good president in the white-house.
It may go nowhere, but it least it is out there and defines his crimes (so far).

o Is it double jeopardy to try a president again on the January 6th events? Double jeopardy applies only to criminal trials. Impeachment is not a criminal trial. Perhaps pry loose Jack Smith's report about Trump's trial for J6.

It is a good start, but more can be added. At this time, publicly, we need to create a website with every charge, every reason to remove Trump from office (not based on policies or simple political reasons), every argument Trump or 'Loyalist Senators' could bring countered, with evidence provided. Trump created a period of chaos deliberately to give cover for his crimes, we need to provide the transparency.
The Mueller Report was a masterwork of documentation, well organized and very readable. It was undone by a lie and effectively the surrender of the media and the democrats 'accepting' the public perception and the biased decision to undermine the evidence pointing to Trump's guilt by focusing only on a criminal charge which it admitted was a very difficult charge to prosecute, and even then a more aggressive prosecutor could have made it stick. Independent media has developed in the meantime, as has the fortitude of Progressive politicians. But there is always another crime to distract from the prior crimes, which is why we need to have one place where they are all listed, with evidence and context.
The very first opportunity to do this would be 2027, IF Dems take the back the House. Changing rules and getting 67 votes in the Senate is a satisfying wish, but highly unlikely. It would hand the GOP a victim card to play going into 2028. Better to focus on trying to undo some of the massive Trump damage if given the opportunity. Some isn't even reversible. The crater of destruction is deep and wide. I know this doesn't bring justice, but reality is rough. We're hanging on by our fingertips.
What exactly is "highly unlikely"? Being able to change the rules? Only requires a majority vote to change the rules, the constitution does not detail how the votes get counted.
Getting 67 votes in the Senate? We have established that the Republican Senators are scared of Trump, and based on how the two prior impeachments went, to get different results we need to do something different.
There is a real reason why in our elections we use 'secret ballots'; To avoid retribution. Give plausible deniability.
Going into 2028, Trump will say everything anyway no matter what Democrats do or say. Obeying in advance does not work. Giving up in advance does not work. Being afraid does not work. If a given approach does not work, try another. Make it clear to every voter we KNOW he is guilty and unfit for office, and make that argument to the people. Not as a legal argument but as an emotional one based on the facts.
Being aggressive is our best plan, because anything else will be seen as weakness and that will not motivate voters.
Yes, of course we cannot act until 2027, but we can lay the groundwork in advance and then hit hard. Once we have both houses, there is only two things we can do, impeach and obstruct. Trump will have the power to veto and a 2/3 majority is too hard to overcome for anything significant.
For significant changes we have to wait for 2029, but we can prepare for that as well, and the more we prepare, the more it will promote our candidates as being more than just expressing fantasies in their promises. It starts to become real because the plans will have details and schedules and cover issues the voters care about. Multiple candidates can sign up to support the plan and build the movement.
Even if the Republican senators on a secret ballot are still too cowardly or complicit to vote per their oaths, the evidence will be there for the people to visit and learn. We have been treating Impeachments like legal trials while Republicans practically mock the process because most people do not read long documents or want to listen to legal arguments. We need to make the emotional arguments, not with hysterical hyper partisan screaming, but by using simple language and relating it to the people. Senators are people, but they also listen to their public, so we speak to the voters. To the Senators, we create a future where they no longer live in fear of Trump, we point out how their past attempts to manage trump have all failed.
Of course the Republicans will scream, play the victim card, accuse Democrats of a power grab... Every possible threat and accusation will be made non-stop, no matter what we do. So develop strategies to deal with it, including talking past them. "We show our evidence, where is yours? SHOW it! He is guilty, you know it and you have been complicit." No more mister nice guy. No more assuming they are arguing in 'good faith'.
• Congress includes 272 GOP men and woman representing millions of decent people from every part of America. The largely silent majority.

There are ten Obstruction charges from the Mueller report alone. Lots of Bribery charges, lots of abuse of power by not following the laws congress passed (Yes, we IGNORE SCOTUS rulings that are clearly enabling illegality. Congress can do that.). There will be the enforcement of the 14th amendment, Section 3 (SCOTUS never ruled on it), and the evaluation of his advancing cognitive degradation (based on guidelines in the 25th amendment). Lots of abuses of his power to intimidate and coerce companies paying him money. If we charged one or three charges, Trump would dismiss them as trivial and wrong, but when the numbers are large and the pattern clear, including Jan 6, and his pardoning of them and then firing of those that had prosecuted them...
Yes, of course Trump will repeat the classics, which is why we need to gather all these charges, with evidence, of ALL his 'wrongness' far in advance, refine them, dismantle every argument, make it clear to the nation, and then with a majority in the Senate, shift the rules so that Republican Senators can vote their conscience rather than their fear by using secret ballots for the conviction, and make it so that he is impeached if the 2/3 majority each vote for at least 'conviction' on even just one charge, indicating the understanding he is not fit to hold office any more. Different Senators may have different issues they find more persuasive. A 2/3 conviction on any given charge could allow prosecution in court on that charge, per the SCOTUS ruling. Yes, that and many SCOTUS rulings will need to be corrected, but that is for after we have a good president in the white-house.

I would hope so. Of course the president can be impeached for bribery.
It is a good start, but more can be added. At this time, publicly, we need to create a website with every charge, every reason to remove Trump from office (not based on policies or simple political reasons), every argument Trump or 'Loyalist Senators' could bring countered, with evidence provided. Trump created a period of chaos deliberately to give cover for his crimes, we need to provide the transparency.
The Mueller Report was a masterwork of documentation, well organized and very readable. It was undone by a lie and effectively the surrender of the media and the democrats 'accepting' the public perception and the biased decision to undermine the evidence pointing to Trump's guilt by focusing only on a criminal charge which it admitted was a very difficult charge to prosecute, and even then a more aggressive prosecutor could have made it stick. Independent media has developed in the meantime, as has the fortitude of Progressive politicians. But there is always another crime to distract from the prior crimes, which is why we need to have one place where they are all listed, with evidence and context.
The very first opportunity to do this would be 2027, IF Dems take the back the House. Changing rules and getting 67 votes in the Senate is a satisfying wish, but highly unlikely. It would hand the GOP a victim card to play going into 2028. Better to focus on trying to undo some of the massive Trump damage if given the opportunity. Some isn't even reversible. The crater of destruction is deep and wide. I know this doesn't bring justice, but reality is rough. We're hanging on by our fingertips.

What exactly is "highly unlikely"? Being able to change the rules? Only requires a majority vote to change the rules, the constitution does not detail how the votes get counted.
Getting 67 votes in the Senate? We have established that the Republican Senators are scared of Trump, and based on how the two prior impeachments went, to get different results we need to do something different.
There is a real reason why in our elections we use 'secret ballots'; To avoid retribution. Give plausible deniability.
Going into 2028, Trump will say everything anyway no matter what Democrats do or say. Obeying in advance does not work. Giving up in advance does not work. Being afraid does not work. If a given approach does not work, try another. Make it clear to every voter we KNOW he is guilty and unfit for office, and make that argument to the people. Not as a legal argument but as an emotional one based on the facts.
Being aggressive is our best plan, because anything else will be seen as weakness and that will not motivate voters.
Yes, of course we cannot act until 2027, but we can lay the groundwork in advance and then hit hard. Once we have both houses, there is only two things we can do, impeach and obstruct. Trump will have the power to veto and a 2/3 majority is too hard to overcome for anything significant.
For significant changes we have to wait for 2029, but we can prepare for that as well, and the more we prepare, the more it will promote our candidates as being more than just expressing fantasies in their promises. It starts to become real because the plans will have details and schedules and cover issues the voters care about. Multiple candidates can sign up to support the plan and build the movement.
Even if the Republican senators on a secret ballot are still too cowardly or complicit to vote per their oaths, the evidence will be there for the people to visit and learn. We have been treating Impeachments like legal trials while Republicans practically mock the process because most people do not read long documents or want to listen to legal arguments. We need to make the emotional arguments, not with hysterical hyper partisan screaming, but by using simple language and relating it to the people. Senators are people, but they also listen to their public, so we speak to the voters. To the Senators, we create a future where they no longer live in fear of Trump, we point out how their past attempts to manage trump have all failed.
Of course the Republicans will scream, play the victim card, accuse Democrats of a power grab... Every possible threat and accusation will be made non-stop, no matter what we do. So develop strategies to deal with it, including talking past them. "We show our evidence, where is yours? SHOW it! He is guilty, you know it and you have been complicit." No more mister nice guy. No more assuming they are arguing in 'good faith'.
