Guest article by Michael Cohen

Trump’s tariffs aren’t economic blunders; they’re a brutal power play designed to punish, confuse, and profit off American pain while everyone pretends the chaos is just “part of the plan.”

Let’s talk tariffs—because what Trump is unleashing isn’t policy, it’s a full-blown economic horror show in disguise. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when economic policy is written on a cocktail napkin during a Mar-a-Lago $250,000-per-plate dinner and then weaponized by a man who thinks “trade deficit” is a personal insult, welcome to the freak show that is 2025.

Here’s the deal, my Substack readers. An appeals court just temporarily restored Trump’s beloved tariffs, throwing a Molotov cocktail into the engine room of the American economy—again. That’s right. After getting smacked down for overreaching on executive authority, Trump’s legal warhorses found a loophole and slipped the tariffs back in through the back door. If you thought the markets were a little jittery before, now they’re shaking like a Chihuahua in a hurricane.

And while Trump’s been busy bragging about how much money these tariffs are bringing in—as if the U.S. Treasury is his own private GoFundMe campaign for revenge politics—what he’s not telling you is how much they’re bleeding out of the rest of the economy. It’s like robbing your kid’s piggy bank to pay off your bookie. Sure, you’ve got cash on hand, but your future just went belly-up.

Let’s break this down: Small business owners—the folks Republicans pretend to worship—are getting absolutely annihilated. One week, their materials cost X, the next week it’s X times two, and by Friday, they’re selling goods at a loss just to survive. You can’t plan for payroll, you can’t manage inventory, and you sure as hell can’t promise a customer a delivery date when the supply chain is held hostage by a man who thinks economic warfare is a reality show subplot.

This is tariff whiplash. And unlike the drama Trump manufactures with his daily rage-posts and late-night revenge tweets, this stuff has real-world consequences. American manufacturers, farmers, tech companies—they’re all getting slammed. And guess what? The pain isn’t being absorbed at the top. Jeff Bezos isn’t sweating over a soybean surplus or the price of aluminum. It’s the corner shop, the guy fixing your HVAC, the woman running a furniture warehouse who suddenly finds herself priced out of foreign goods and U.S.-made alternatives because the market’s gone haywire.

But here’s the kicker—and it should scare the living shit out of you: This isn’t about policy. It’s not even about protecting American workers. It’s about control. It’s about power. It’s about paving the road for Project 2025—the ultra-conservative fever dream cooked up by Heritage Foundation flunkies and MAGA loyalists who are planning, piece by piece, to dismantle what’s left of the administrative state and rebuild it in Trump’s image.

Project 2025 is a blueprint for autocracy with a patriotic bow. It wants to gut federal agencies, purge civil servants, and reshape every arm of the U.S. government to serve a single master: Trump. The tariffs? They’re just the teaser trailer. Economic chaos, legal overreach, foreign antagonism—these are all chapters in the same dystopian playbook.

And don’t think for a second that a Supreme Court ruling will stop them. Trump’s team is already warning—telegraphing—that they’ll push forward with tariffs regardless of what the courts say. If that doesn’t ring alarm bells, you’re again not paying attention. This isn’t about laws anymore; it’s about testing the limits of how far they can go before someone stops them. And so far? No one is.

The markets, desperate for stability, are caught in the undertow of this ideological hurricane. Investors are spooked, small businesses are on the brink, and inflation is doing the cha-cha with interest rates while the American public is left footing the bill.

This isn’t a short-term headache. It’s a long-term condition—and it’s metastasizing. Every time Trump or one of his henchmen pulls a stunt like this, it reinforces a dangerous truth: that governance through chaos is their strategy, not a side effect. And the American people—already exhausted, confused, and gaslit into submission—are being set up to accept economic suffering as the cost of "greatness."

So yeah, it’s tarrifying. But not just because of what it does to your wallet. It’s terrifying because it reveals the true game behind the curtain. Trump doesn’t want a functioning economy; he wants a pliable one. He doesn’t care about trade deficits, he cares about political leverage. And those pulling his strings? They’re counting on the fact that you’ll be too busy watching prices increase on everyday items to notice the Constitution going up in flames.

This isn’t a policy debate anymore; it’s a full-scale assault on the country itself, and we’re bleeding out one grocery bill, one rent hike, one shuttered small business at a time.

So, if you’re not angry yet, you’re not paying attention. It’s time to get off the sidelines—and I mean right now, before there’s nothing left to fight for.

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PERSONAL NOTE: ARE YOU WITH ME?

I CAN’T DO THIS ALONE!

If you’re reading this, it means you care. You care about truth. About justice. About saving our democracy from the grip of grifters, liars, and power-hungry con men. But let’s be real: I can’t carry this weight on my own.

I’m asking—no, urging you, my loyal Substack readers—to help grow this platform into a force they can’t ignore. We’re not building a newsletter; we’re building a movement. One loud enough, sharp enough, and relentless enough to push back against the lies and hold the corrupt to account.

Now more than ever, independent journalism needs you. Your support keeps this alive—not corporate sponsors, not shady billionaires with agendas. You.

And yes, as a personal thank you, the first 240 Founding Members will receive a rare, signed, numbered Substack edition of my New York Times bestseller, Revenge: How Donald Trump Weaponized the U.S. Department of Justice Against His Critics. A collector’s item, and a statement.

But this is bigger than a book. It’s about standing up while others stay silent. It’s about building a community that calls out the bullshit and fights like hell for what’s right.

So here’s what you can do:

  1. Become a supporter.

  2. Share this Substack with family and friends.

  3. Bring your people into the fight.

Do your part. Stand up. Speak out. The time is now—and together, we will be heard.

I don't understand why his approval rating has gone up. He is a hideous soul, full of cruelty and ignorance
