Error one: Tylenol is a trade name, not a chemical compound.

Error two: Scientists with credible research credentials should be making the announcement with supporting evidence of harm, not a political hack with a record of criminal fraud, deception and defamation.

What's sad about oz is he was a well respected doctor at one time and,I believe, head of cardiology at a prestigious NY hospital. he is credentialed but was willing to sell his integrity and his reputation for "fame" and money and power. It's appalling what love of power and money does to people, especially those who apparently have no moral. So much for the hippocratic oath of harming none. Should now be called the hypocritic oath, especially for doctors like cassidy, paul and others who confirmed these dangerous, amoral people.

Thanks Michael for your article, medical science is an art & a science performed on scientific laboratory research. There have not been any scientific studies to date that states that acetaminophen (Tylenol) CAUSES Autism. J & J was sued back in the ‘80’s when the cyanide scare occurred, they broke that particular medication off to a separate company, and their patent to market Tylenol ran out and generic acetaminophen is manufactured by many companies now here in the US & overseas. This regime is using fear, doubt, and no science to frightened women into questioning the medical profession. Every physician will & has recommended limited use of OTC (over the counter) medication for their pregnant patients, and if prescribed have based that opinion on medical & scientific evidence. Women should do a class action suit against DT, RFK, Jr & Oz in declaring this action!

I never took Tylenol when pregnant since it doesn't seem to work well as a pain reliever for me. I would take Ibuprofen when needed during my five pregnancies through the 70s, and 80s. I don't know why it's no longer recommended unless it's because it is also an anticoagulant. My husband is on Eliquis and can only take Tylenol (generic) for pain. It doesn't help him a whole lot. But to label this medication as a cause for autism is disgusting, especially since there is strong evidence that it's related to genetics. And telling women to just suffer is even more disgusting, especially coming from a disgusting fat pig of a man who was able to get 5 deferments from the military because his "wittle piggies" hurt! I even heard someone mention that evangelicals are saying women SHOULD suffer through pregnancy since we're paying for original sin. I told my daughter I thought baptism cleansed us of original sin. Apparently that only applies to males.

I was listening to WGBH Boston today. A caller said her pregnant daughter may not have access to an epidural, having heard that trump is looking into making that an illegal treatment for labor pains. Someone suggested, in jest, that she heard Viagra caused autism and wondered when trump and his dangerous joke of an administration would be investigating that!

Corporate extortion issue?

No standing if 1 brand name is singled out (for its main ingredient), but that main ingredient is not called out ... and would then have to be proven for USA to stop selling all acetaminophen in any form... that's $$$Mil for these corporations. And also a medical issue for people who cannot stomach ibuprofen.

People on blood thinners can't take ibuprofen either. People with ulcers can't take it. How many people can't take it, even if it relieves pain better and take Tylenol?

I figure Kenvue has pretty smart attorneys, which is more than the trump administration has. If they see a way they can win, based on the law, they will indeed sue. And win. I don't have any idea what the guidelines are about something like this. It seems to me just having the president of the US say your product is bad and to not take it if you are pregnant is pretty damning stuff that should not be allowed to be said. Trump did not say it was his opinoin based on credible research that he cited, he just said it's bad, don't take it. Surely that is something that will hurt sales and there should be some legal recourse.

dt & his regime are also targeting the BRAND of Tylenol yet not saying all acetaminophen in every product would have to be taken off market in USA.

Hugh $$$$ loss on all the generics... legal case would then add in Target, Walmart, Costco, Walgreen's, CVS, Dr offices & hospitals... plus all the researchers.

gee, doesn't a potus have international wars that should have been solved months ago? so much free time (and golf time) on his hands

Eva Seifert's avatar

He did specifically mention acetaminophen in his stupid rant, asking how to pronounce him. So, he does mean all of it, including generics.

Expand full comment
Robin's avatar

If it were really about the OTC med, acetaminophen, he would not have had to ask pronunciation . The medical RESEARCH (cough, cough) would have been methodically reviewed with him & he would have known at that time. NOT at the point of being in front of audience.

It's 1 or the other. Either the Brand (and that manufacturer) or ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL acetaminophen.

The brand= if this is POTUS's monetary shake down of the company

OR

ALL acetaminophen, if there is to be a new law

If it is to be outlawed (aka by a faux FDA & FTC) then it really needs to be 100% clear that every bit of acetaminophen is not for the user (in this case pregnant women). He can't name-check a brand that is only 15% of the acetaminophen that is on the market.

As I listen to my profoundly autistic 23 yo son babble from the other room, I'm fairly certain there are other factors at play. We have such a shortage of doctors and I get angry if I have to wait a long time for an appointment because folks who refused to consider physicians as professional persons whose recommendations should be followed got sick and decided it was time to go to someone who know what they were doing. I think all families whose kids have gotten measles should have gone to rfk and not taken up the time of their local physicians. Why are there no consequences for actions any more?
