Roofers especially, roofing is a physically hard job.

You are bending down all day pulling off old shingles, and bending over nailing in new shingles, and you are doing this all the time unbalanced on an angle. The materials are heavy and you have to carry them across many times steeply angled roofs. But hey these hard working roofers are a detriment to America, so deport all the immigrant roofers.

Expand full comment

Not to mention dangerous and debilitating work conditions in the summer heat, where people often suffer serious injuries for which medical care often goes uncompensated as I've been involved with such cases when employed in a personal injury law firm.

Expand full comment
olderwoman's avatar

Yes! And injuries.

I can't say about India and Africa as I am not familiar, but historically in Western cultures the hardest, and dirtiest work is always done by immigrants. And then their children, the first American generation, typically surpasses their immigrant parents. Now some immigrants are intellectuals, that is different, but the poorly educated immigrants in western cultures typically do the hardest and dirtiest work.

Expand full comment
Ferengi (child of aliens 😋😉🤗)'s avatar

Agreed.

I'll add that bending over for hours in the blazing sun picking strawberries on a "per basket" wage is a similar strain on the body, and again not always on level ground.

Then there are the personal care workers, expected to manoeuvre very heavy people at risk of personal injury. I know of one who tore her shoulder muscle trying to manoeuvre a 400 lb. man from his wheelchair to his bed (his legs work, just they don't support his weight).

I know another personal care worker who has RSI in both elbows and both wrists, because of the repetitive movements of showing people who cannot do it themselves due to physical and/or mental limitations. She is paid on a "per service" basis. She unfortunately didn't get appropriately good medical service quickly enough (one doctor just waved away her concerns) and now she has been off work for ~6 months and still can't even lift her teacup without pain.

All the jobs that undocumented people do carry with them risks of personal injury, for much less pay than a citizen would get (but they aren't prepared to do it).

There needs to be a much faster and more streamlined way that immigrants, **who came to the US because they care deeply about "The American Dream",** can get safe permanent immigrant status, and have that status unable to be removed at a whim (there must be strong due process rights including no detention (unless caught in the middle of a violent personal attack or otherwise with a warrant.)

Democrats wouldn't lie about it and I bet it would make the skin crawl on some of the Republicans, who wouldn't stay quiet about it either. How about just leave it alone? The fact that his most ardent base is spitting mad at him for refusing to open the files is working for us. They have been convinced for years that there is alot of info re child trafficking & the people behind that in those files. It has also been their BIGGEST reason for supporting trump, who promised them (again, for years) that he would procure the files and open them. They are now furious that he wants to move off the topic. They are angry that he may have lied to him.... enough so that they may dump him. Leaving the files alone is a win-win situation, because even if they ARE opened, enough high level people - like trump himself - will be exposed.

I suspect there are a *lot* of powerful rich asses who aren't sleeping well these days, but it would be utterly atypical if those types are ever held accountable. I want to see all of them exposed, dems and repugs, prosecutors and attorneys who didn't have the integrity, honesty, or courage to step into that pile of pit vipers from the very beginning. Wonder how many members of congress are receiving threatening phone calls from the entire cast of enablers.

That list includes you, Alexander Acosta, who approved a plea deal that allowed Epstein to plead guilty to a single state charge of solicitation in exchange for a federal non-prosecution agreement. Why did Donnie Pervert appoint him to Secretary of Labor from 2017 to 2019? To secure his silence on the mountains of evidence and hundreds of victims he silenced and denied justice?

And, oh, Jamie Dimon, who knew about everything and helped him launder his money:

"After hurling salacious allegations for months against Jes Staley in a federal lawsuit JPMorgan Chase had brought against its former executive, the bank decided last September to quietly settle the case without disclosing the terms.

"The bank sued Staley after it had been sued by victims of sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and after it had been sued in a separate lawsuit by the Attorney General of the U.S. Virgin Islands, where Epstein owned a private island compound that was a frequent venue of Epstein’s sex trafficking of minors. Lawyers for the U.S. Virgin Islands charged that JPMorgan Chase had “actively participated in Epstein’s sex-trafficking venture from 2006 until 2019.” (Both cases were settled last year by the bank, with it paying a whopping $290 million to the victims and $75 million to the U.S. Virgin Islands.)

" ... JPMorgan Chase filed a document with the court as part of a discovery demand showing that, in addition to Staley, 14 of its executives, private bankers and other staff had made visits to Epstein’s private residences. One of those employees, Justin Nelson, visited Epstein’s residences more times than Staley. Nelson was at Epstein’s Manhattan mansion – a key location of the sex trafficking operation – 12 times and one time at Epstein’s Zorro Ranch in New Mexico – an additional location of the sex trafficking ring. That’s a total of 13 visits to the residence of a sex trafficker. Staley’s visits to Epstein’s residences tally up to 11, according to JPMorgan’s chart. Eight of Nelson’s visits to Epstein’s residences occurred after 2013, the year that the bank claims it fired Epstein as a client. Disbursements from Epstein accounts were occurring long after 2013 according to court documents, raising questions about just when, or if, Epstein was terminated as a client from the Private Bank or the bank’s brokerage unit, J.P. Morgan Securities.
