I agree. Repression is evil but it can call forth great creativity. Ireland and South Africa are great examples. Franco’s Spain mobilized an artistic opposition (Guernica, for example). I can’t say much about other cultures because I am less familiar with them, but the Nobel Committee tends to have their finger on that pulse.
