Trump is Picking a Redistricting Fight. He Should Back Down.
NDRC President John Bisognano on Trump’s latest scheme to rig the midterms before voters even have a say.

In 2020, Donald Trump picked up the phone and called Georgia’s secretary of state with a wild assignment: “find” 11,780 votes so Trump could keep the White House.
Fast-forward to 2025, and Trump is at it again: calling Texas Republicans to create five more seats so he can hold onto Congress.
In both cases, Trump wanted control, no matter what the American people said. In both cases, he was comfortable destroying our democracy to preserve his own power. But this time, he’s not challenging an election that’s already happened; he’s trying to rig the rules before a single vote is cast. And this time, the Republicans on the receiving end aren’t pushing back.
They’re rolling over.
Unlike in Georgia, Texas Republicans immediately folded and sold out their constituents. They’ve said they’ll create as many unfair districts as it takes to keep Donald Trump in charge. They’ve threatened to jail Texas Democrats who stand in their way. While gerrymandering is nothing new for Republicans – they’ve spent decades packing, cracking, and stacking the deck with surgical precision so politicians can pick their constituents instead of the other way around – they’re finally saying the quiet part out loud, and turning our democracy inside out just to keep their party in charge.
At the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) and Affiliates, we’ve been sounding the alarm on Trump’s Texas gerrymandering threat. We’re speaking out, organizing communities, and readying court challenges. The good news is, the alarm is being heard. Across Texas and beyond, protests and pressure campaigns are already making a difference, turning up the heat on legislators and statewide officials who thought they could ram through their bogus maps without any resistance.
We’ve also seen other states step into the fight. In response to this blatant power grab, California is preparing to launch a voter-led ballot initiative that would allow voters to change its district-drawing process temporarily – the commission would return in 2030 – and face down the Texas redraw. This isn’t partisan posturing or escalation; it’s a responsive, responsible, temporary, and democratic effort to rebalance the promise of a representative democracy. It’s a reminder that Republicans can’t act with impunity; a chance for Texas to do right by its constituents; and an opportunity for Donald Trump to back down.
At NDRC and Affiliates, we stand for fair elections. We cannot stand by while Donald Trump and his allies hijack our democracy, sideline American voters, and stack Congress with politicians who are more interested in supporting Trump than standing up for their constituents. That’s why our goal is simple: stop this Texas-sized power grab, protect Americans’ right to pick their representatives, and make sure the rules are fair for everyone.

Donald Trump won’t call off this scheme because it’s wrong. He’ll call it off if we make it too costly to keep going. That’s why we have to turn up the volume, pack the town halls, flood the phone lines, and make sure every voter knows exactly what’s at stake. Trump’s power depends on people looking the other way. Our power comes from getting involved. In the end, Donald Trump fears one thing more than losing control: being held accountable.

He still won’t accept that he lost in 2020. Every accusation is a confession- he is the biggest election RIGGER! He’ll do anything to “win” again. He has no conscience or sense of decency or concept of how democracy is supposed to work.
You need to be focused on organizing a general strike and a Million Man March to overthrow these bastards, my friends. You get yourselves too sidetracked with the numerous diversions that MAGA is creating each day.
