I not only feel better about my buying power choices but I also am saving money because I am taking the time to actually search for deals that are often a much better value than Amazon.

I should add that SS is already taxed at 50% if your “combined income” (AGI + nontaxable interest income + one-half of your Social Security) is $34,000 or less for single filers ($44,000 or less for Married Filing Jointly). It’s taxed at 85%, not 50%, if your “combined income” is above $34,000 for single filers ($44,000 Married Filing Jointly). It’s not taxed at all if your “combined income” is $25K or less.
Also, this new $6000 deduction is temporary: it’s in effect from the fiscal year 2025 through 2028. It will expire at the end of 2028. (Of course, just through the Rump term!) And it’s phased out for high income earners (individuals earning more than 75K; married couples earning more than $150K).

I was disgusted yesterday by the “dear leader” email from the Social Security Administration praising the “Big Beautiful Bill” and blatantly lying that “The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples.” And the worst part of the email? It’s government sponsored propaganda payed for by our tax dollars! Fascism is here.
Who else is thoroughly pissed off?!?
This will be happening more, since that pinhead Elon and DOGE were given access to all our information. They will be sending propaganda emails all the time.

There’s a lot of misinformation about whether the Big Horrible Bill eliminates taxes on SS retirement benefits. Rump says it does, but it doesn’t. There’s a “however”, however: while the Big Horrible Bill does not eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits, it does provide a $6000 deduction for individuals ($12,000 for a married couples) who are older than 65, which is the functional equivalent of reducing taxes on Social Security recipients. Those who delay receiving Social Security, or get less than $6000 in SS benefits, will still get the deduction if they are 65 or older. So, in some ways, the deduction is even better than simply not taxing $6000 of Social Security benefits. Since most people on Social Security get more than $6000 a year, the tax deduction is less favorable than the complete elimination of all taxes on all Social Security retirement benefits.
I should add that SS is already taxed at 50% if your “combined income” (AGI + nontaxable interest income + one-half of your Social Security) is $34,000 or less for single filers ($44,000 or less for Married Filing Jointly). It’s taxed at 85%, not 50%, if your “combined income” is above $34,000 for single filers ($44,000 Married Filing Jointly). It’s not taxed at all if your “combined income” is $25K or less.
Also, this new $6000 deduction is temporary: it’s in effect from the fiscal year 2025 through 2028. It will expire at the end of 2028. (Of course, just through the Rump term!) And it’s phased out for high income earners (individuals earning more than 75K; married couples earning more than $150K).
Correct, but the way it’s written is misleading, and most people not paying attention won’t understand the nuances. Overall, the tone of the email lavishing praise on this “landmark” legislation was infuriating.
