Thank you Ben for breaking this down for all of us and highlighting things legacy media is too scared to. Good on Harvard for doing what Columbia wouldn’t and standing up to the regime.

Sharm's avatar

Thank you so much for your hard work. Have you done an interview with Adam Kinzinger? Or did I miss it? This guy is really standing up. His bravery is so impressive

Amy Walter's avatar

He’s done multiple interviews with Adam Kinzinger 💙

New to this scene. I figured they would have. I will be more aware. Thanks for the heads up.

Not a word about extradition...from anybody.

Oaktown's avatar

Yes, was a relief to see Harvard stand up for freedom of speech and thought. If any university were to fold like Columbia did (shame on them!!!), it should NOT have been the one with the largest endowment.

Trina Mason's avatar

It’s “We the People” not we democrats and republicans!!!! We the People must stand together to fight for democracy, decency, and fairness for ALL Americans 💙

Soul Alchemist's avatar

Love this message Trina. It is indeed We The People against a fascist takeover!

Ken Williams, PhD's avatar

Having studied authoritarian regimes, resistance requires broad-based support. I understand you are the top outlet by subscribers. We need to take control of the narrative. Can you do this alone? Or, are you or have you considered collaborating with other like-minded sources, such as, the Lincoln Project?

Amy Walter's avatar

Meidas Touch has collaborated with many other like minded sources including Lincoln Project

Ken Williams, PhD's avatar

Thank you. Perhaps. However, the collaboration is not visible and it needs to be visible to the public. There is strength in numbers. We need widespread mobilization.

Vel Santic's avatar

My sentiments too, Ken Williams, PhD!! All the NONtRumputinist and better yet ANTItRumputinist Americans must be tightly united, despite our internal differences that may be, been saying that since forever.

Ken Williams, PhD's avatar

Absolutely. Any internal differences, pale in comparison to the impending destruction of democracy, that is, individual sovereignty, the freedom to participate in self rule, the rule of law, equality before the law, intrinsic value of all humans and of all creation, fair distribution of burdens and resources. The orange plague is trying to remake our national value system into one characterized by fear, privilege, inequality, and power and wealth concentrated among a minority of individuals, while the rest of us serve them.

Vel Santic's avatar

I can see it’s even more existential than even excellent what you said. the tRumputin&his antidemocrats want us exterminated. Democracy is the existential issue same as the air we breathe for biological survival!!!

Jane Beard's avatar

We are the people who can share the messaging and collaborations. We can do it here, and at school pick ups and the gym and the airport lounge and and and. No organization can do it all.

Ken Williams, PhD's avatar

Hi Jane. Completely agree about our individual responsibility. I also agree that no organization can do it all. I greatly appreciate what Meidas Touch is doing and has accomplished. However, it is just one organization. There are several other like-minded organizations. If we’re going to defeat this orange plague, there’s got to be a much broader based coalition. The public, institutions under attack, senators, and congressmen need to see this visible coalition. People that are undecided need to see this coalition and understand there is a powerful force opposing this movement toward authoritarianism.

Vel Santic's avatar

Exactly! On Raw Story the excellent John Stoehr was already several months ago pointing out the crucial importance of Liberal Infrastructure and Media that is still, unbelievably, missing!

Stephanie Woods's avatar

Follow the money!!! Who is paying El Salvador and how much?

john rawson's avatar

Is el Salvador paying orangmutan personally for supplying slave labour. Wouldn't put it beyond him😂

Fraser's avatar

Oh absolutely! Small hands knows no other language!

Daniel Solomon's avatar

Off mike Trump indicated he wanted more El Salvador prisons to house "homegrowns." IMHO he meant "homeboys." .

El Salvador is also in the crypto currency business with El Trumpo.

E.G. El Salvador’s heralded adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender appears to be undergoing a significant downgrade as businesses are no longer obliged to accept the cryptocurrency. https://gfmag.com/economics-policy-regulation/el-salvador-drops-bitcoin-legal-tender/

As part of a $1.4 billion loan agreed with the International Monetary Fund in December, the government’s involvement with the digital Chivo wallet will be “gradually unwound.” At the end of January, on a vote of 55-2, El Salvador’s Legislative Assembly passed modifications to the Bitcoin law, eliminating the word “currency” but keeping it legal tender. The changes will take effect May 1, 90 days after the legislation appeared in the official newspaper.

“Bitcoin no longer has the strength of legal tender,” economist Rafael Lemus told AFP. “It should have always been that way, but the government tried to force it into existence, and it didn’t work.”

Users are now free to accept Bitcoin or not, but it cannot be used to pay taxes or state bills. President Nayib Bukele admitted that introducing Bitcoin as an official currency alongside the US dollar in September 2021—the world’s first such move—had been his government’s “most unpopular” measure, alongside stringent anti-gang security measures.

El Salvador still has 688 Bitcoin in reserve, worth an estimated $574 million, of which $287 million is profit.

On February 13, Bukele and Microstrategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor discussed how Bitcoin adoption could be accelerated worldwide, with El Salvador’s National Bitcoin Office considering establishing nodes in each household. The aim was to boost public perception of how Bitcoin can work in daily settings.

“President Bukele continues to buy Bitcoin, we have a Bitcoin Office, we have the Bitcoin Law, Bitcoin can be used in El Salvador,” El Salvador’s ambassador to the US, Milena Mayorga, assured at a Bitcoin conference.” But, “it has not been an easy road.” A survey published by the Jesuit Central American University in January revealed 92% of Salvadorans had not used Bitcoin in 2024. Of the 8% who said they had done so, the average was only 14 times a year. Family remittances via digital wallets amounted to $7.22 million in December 2024, less than 1% of the total sent.

Sharon C Storm's avatar

The taxpayers of this country are paying El Salvador $6 million. There is reason to suspect that it is only the first of many such payments.

Susan Raquel's avatar

"WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is paying roughly $6 million for El Salvador to jail the 238 Venezuelan gang suspects deported Sunday, according to the White House.

That works out to roughly $25,000 per detainee — a 43% discount on average US prison costs."

“It was approximately $6 million to El Salvador for the detention of these foreign terrorists,” press secretary Karoline Leavitt said at her regular briefing Monday.

“I would point out that is pennies on the dollar in comparison to the cost of life and the cost it would impose on the American taxpayer to house these terrorists and maximum security prisons here in the United States of America.”

https://nypost.com/2025/03/17/us-news/us-paying-el-salvador-6m-to-jail-venezuela-gang-suspects-pennies-on-the-dollar/

So, just how many of those "gang SUSPECTS" would actually be sentenced to prison and for what crimes? I suppose that is a moot question since Trump does not believe in due process for anyone except himself.

Sharlene Silva's avatar

The US government has contracted with El Salvador to pay $3 million a year to run this gulag, and Trump wants to expand the arrangement. So, WE are paying.

How about showing regularly a series of 'Republicans were right about Trump' - and showing the videos from 2015 onwards of people like Lindsay Graham saying 'Choose Trump and he will destroy the GOP!' and comments from his former cabinet members about how incompetent he is.

Jane Beard's avatar

But show them where? And to whom? It just makes us feel good to see stuff like this in our own echo chambers. We need messaging to get bryond our borders, and of the type that will help MAGAtes de-identify with the Musk Felon Administration and connect with the rest of us. There were commercials like this in the last campaign and they didn't seem to move the needle much

David Jolly's avatar

As there are many more Meidas viewers and more disillusioned Republicans, there may be a new and more receptive audience for the wealth of anti-Trump clips available. Also, the new viewers might have opportunities to pass them on to other wavering Republicans and independents. Worth a shot! And it can make us feel good!

There is some very good news shared here along with the bad (and indeed corporate media has briefly mentioned the bad, but not said it's bad). One of the comments I appreciate most is that MTN got the accurate data to the world. Perhaps from a selfish point of view ( I want to be known as a good guy!) I want the rest of the world to know we are not all bad guys....indeed most of us do not agree with trump but our political system does not allow us to do much about it...even in the rare case when the highest court in the land says he has done something illegal there are no consequences. We are trying to have a peaceful change in our government because that's how America does things, but short of the Civil War I don't think we've ever faced such a constitutional challenge as we do today. Let's each do all we can, if it's phone calls, emails to our legislators (who ignore them like mine do but there are some republicans who may be a little worried and getting reelected so they can continue to hide from their constituents...what a sick approach to "public" service) or hopefully donating even a small amount to Bernie, Murphy, even the DNC. It is up to us and with the information MTN provides on a daily basis we can make good decisions and make a difference.

Your question about where is the real power is THE question. IF we can make it to the 2026 elections that will solve a lot of the issues, but for many things it is already too late and I don't understand how so many Republicans don't see that. According to the US Chamber of Commerce, which is not exactly a liberal organization, there is a worker shortage in America. You can argue that that only matters because it's primarily in certain industries, but in my mind that is not a very good argument that it is not an issue. So if companies can't currently find workers, and we don't allow anyone from any other nation (and now professional and skilled workers are not going to want to come here from other nations) where are we going to get all the workers to work in all these factories that are going to magically appear (again, what reasonable investor would invest in a factory in a nation as unstable as the US). If Bill Gates is right and a whole lot of the jobs we have now will be done by AI (or is that A One????) we will need well trained folks in the work force to meet the new jobs that AI will create, and we are dismantling our Department of Education and letting the states do their own thing which means very little quality education in the red states. Child labor like they want to reinstate in Florida (maybe they have already passed that law, I don't know) will work for picking fruit and veggies, but not technical stuff like making sure AI programs run correctly. So we seem to have sort of a double issue..how do we end it, and how do we recover? I don't know what good it would do if more elected Dems were more vocal but it can't hurt. I've seen a few of Adam Shiff's talks and I find him very inspiring..he's not loud or obnoxious , but so full of compassion and understanding. I think we need a mixture of the AOCs, Bernies, Crocketts, Pritzkers and the Schiffs. I don't know if it would help if we pressure corporate media to provide more coverage to Dem Governors and the work of Bernie et al and at the same time pressure them to provide honest coverage of what trump is doing, rather than making the news at best seem neither favorable nor unfavorable towards him. And it may very well be that the power is in the states and we really need to work on keeping those that are Blue and getting those purple ones blue.

It certainly is a weird time. In other nations like Brazil there seems to be an increase in democracy and freedoms. I know that in other nations where good things are happening they are happening because citizens did not give up and that helps keep me motivated. However, I do wonder who America really is. The reality is we have a pretty cruel past from the beginning when we stole land from the Native Americans and put them basically in concentration camps eventually, and then the whole slavery, Jim Crow stuff, the horrible meanness shown to immigrants, from the Italians to the Irish to whoever the white men decided to not like at the moment (and even within our nation...in the 1930s California and maybe other states had laws that basically said No Okies Allowed to prevent American Citizens from moving from the dust bowl to California). And of course the Lousanna purchase and how we act like that has always been white man's land.... and let's not evet talk about keeping women as not even second class citizens. So from time to time I mostly as amazed at how, for many years in my life time, things were amazingly good in America. It's horrific that we have gone so far backwards is such a short time, but maybe during those years of greater equality and even greater compassion there have been enough folks that truly bought into those values that we will all band together and not just undo the trump/Republican party damage but even make a better nation. For sure I will not give into the GOPs plan to get me to just give up and I know you won't either. We just have to work together to get more and more folks to realize was can and will make a difference, but only if we do something, no matter how small it may seem.

This is scary as hell. I'm glad you are here, not sugar coating this at all. It is truly a shock to our minds and bodies.

In just a few weeks our government has been destroyed. But... on April 5th in tiny Pittsboro, NC we organized a Hands OFF rally where 1500 people showed up. Our Stare Representative and Senator came to speak and other leaders in Chatham County. It was amazing. Our previous record attendance for all rallies here from 2017-2020 was 150. so I have hope. Thank you so much.

I imagine, just my opinion, that they will do nothing since they granted "him" presidential immunity. That decision needs to be reversed immediately.

That was the worst decision they ever made. It needs to be reversed immediately, but they won’t do it until it impacts the Supreme Court itself.

I know there’s a lot of struggle for everyone currently. But as a 20 year old who’s been graduated for almost 3 years now, was kicked out last year, $20k in debt to a school that screwed me, along with other things. I think I speak for most when I say: what the fuck do I do right now

mariposa's avatar

I'm so sorry we are where we are right now in this country. I have a 20 year old son as well. What should be an exciting chapter for you has taken a wild and scary turn. But all is not lost. I am glad you are on the right side of history. That's a good place to be.

Your feelings are normal. This is your future at stake so you have good reason to be scared, sad and angry. Many are. Take a moment to feel that. Then channel your energy into something that makes you feel less powerless. If you can't protest make calls (countryfirst.org and others) or make signs for the locals who can. Join your local democratic party. I am an independent voter but have lessened the impact of maga on my mental health in a red state by joining others of like mindedness. They have meetings and will help you network w other people. This will help you feel less isolated. If we collectively work together all will not be lost. But please do not let the fear paralyze you. That is how fascism wins. Lastly, take some time every day to still find joy some how or some way. Don't let your days be robbed of joy! Then dig in and do the things that need done like work etc. Keep your chin up, and one foot in front of the other. We will turn this around. You are not alone!

Doc's avatar

This is awesome I really really appreciate you giving me some ways I can help without having to miss work or out obligations aside, which is why I haven’t been protesting and such, but knowing people who are and helping them is definitely one way I’m going to help. Not only that but knowing I’m helping makes it just a little bit easier. Sitting around and being sad is no longer an option. We really are in this together and we have a common enemy now. Thank you, and I hope we can all make it past this together🫶🏼
